Pakistan is still a great T20 team.

But they are not the best. That would be West Indies.

Pakistan ranking is the biggest joke in cricket at the moment. At best the 6th best team around.

Take these rankings with a pinch of salt when you have Hackzratullah at #5

The reality of Pakistan's No. 1 T20I ranking.

Pakistan have been by far the best side in T20Is for a long time, as far as stats are concerned. But how come a side which had such great numbers to back up their claim as the top team in the format ends up losing to a second string Srilankan Side.

But if we dig in a little deeper, the stats start painting a very clear depiction of the pathway that led Pak to no 1 T20I side.

After T20 CWC 2016, we were flawless against England, but it was Imad Wasim's brilliance coupled with brainless batting from WI that led us to comprehensive victories in the next 6 games. These games were only followed by matches against second string sides/minnows like WI, SL, AUS, Zim, Scotland, SA, World 11 and England.

The only victory that could actually be called an achievement was against NZ. The fact that we were unable to win against second string teams of SA, Eng and SL recently is a testament to how poor a side we are in this format.

The way we played against SL even team like Holland, Ireland, Scotland or even Nepal can win a series against us in our own soil.
Don't say that SL was far ahead of the team, so as Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Our T20 won against Australia, NZ, England, Sl.. Don't say all our win was fluke.

Honestly T20 rankings don't matter much.
WT20 is important and preparing a team that is suited for next WT20 conditions should be focus rather than wailing over some random bilateral whitewash.

Right now there are only 4 guys - Babar, Fakhar, Imad and Amir who are a lock for WC.
Pak has to find 2 strong hitters, one more versatile middle order batter (Haris or Malik), one lead wristspinner and 2 quality pacers (one death specialist and other hit the deck middle overs ) specialist) to round out the team.

Next series and PSL should all be geared towards these gaps

Performances in One or two series as a batsmen or as a team effects ranking immensely...can't take this rankings seriously..U can see rubbish batsmens and bowlers are in top 10.

Misbah needs to be removed from our system, he can be a head coach for lower ranked sides since he has lower expectations; he will not be able to take Pak cricket to the next level. He's decent for Tests but we need someone else for LOI's.

We play our best eleven in bilateral T20's, other teams play their bench strength and preserve their main players for the world T20 event.

Totally agree. Our T20 ranking is one big drama - easily the most misleading ranking in cricket at the moment.

Our fake streak was built on beating weak and underpowered teams. As far as the England match in 2016 is concerned, they switched-off after battering us in the first four ODIs before relaxing in the fifth ODI and the 1 T20. If it was a long T20 series they would have definitely won.

Our so-called number one side would get smashed by India today and would have been smashed by them in 2017 and 2018 as well.

If people are not going to wake up after the Sri Lanka humiliation, they never will.

I’ll take it. Any small comfort will do for now.

Ahahahaha thank you ICC for rubbing it in this haters face. Their is clearly a reason we are still number one despite getting swept by Sri Lanka. If this ranking is fake than smiths number one test ranking and kohlis number one ranking in Odis is clearly fake to right or is that another ICC making those rankings? #MamoonDeservesThisHumiliation

So after the Sri Lankan T20 series lost, everyone is questioning our #1 T20 ranking? Come on guys, we made it here from hard work and it paid off.

The problem with Pakistan Cricket team is consistency. We were NEVER consistent. The players who were winning us the games are struggling to even make it pass a full inning. They lost the spark, the desire, the hunger to win the games. This doesn't mean that their T20 ranking is a fluke. They played above average Cricket and now its below mediocre.

These three are world class T20 players but our team and whole structure if flawed. Bringing in players like Umar Akmal and Shehzad has completely ruined our winning streak.

Most importantly it destroyed our momentum in this format and ruined our "habit" of winning t20 matches for fun. From now on, our players will be playing t20s with lot of self-doubt, insecurity and pressure.

Pakistan are still, on paper, the best T20 side around but they are sliding fast and it is important that Shadab, Imad, Hasan can all regain a measure of form, while Fakhar, Babar and Sohail must score runs. It would make such a difference to have Rizwan and Talat in there too.

Why would you want Talat in the team? He’s been awful everytime he’s played a T20 for Pakistan.

Awful? The guy already has 2 fifties, a decent avg of almost 30 and is striking at 120. He can also be handy with a few overs and should be given more chances to bowl (across the 14 matches he has played they only gave him 6 overs).

Can you tell me what is awful about that? In fact, moving away from the stats we have seen he can consolidate or strike the ball. Sometimes I do not understand where the opinions on this side come from.
