Leg-spinner makes leap in latest Men's Rankings update

A highlight week for Adil Rashid has the England leg-spinner one step away from the ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings summit

A solid week from frontline leg-spinner Adil Rashid has moved the 37-year-old just one step away from top spot on the ICC Men's T20I Bowling Rankings.

Rashid was consistent across England's 3-0 series victory over the West Indies, claiming 1/22 (4) at Chester-le-Street, 1/59 (4) in a high-scoring affair in Bristol, and 2/30 (4) in Southampton.

His efforts means he passes Wanindu Hasaranga and Varun Chakaravarthy to second on the T20I Bowling Rankings, with his rating of 710 in touching distane to kiwi quick Jacob Duffy on 723.

England were strong in their home stand, picking up where they left off in their victorious ODI series efforts against the same opponents.

Rashid's teammate Brydon Carse also enjoyed a Bowling Rankings jump, with two wickets across the final two matches leading to a 16-spot jump to 52nd (493).

Runs flowed in the three-match series, with players from both sides enjoying significant jumps on the updated T20I Batter Rankings.

A blazing 84 (46) from Ben Duckett in the third T20I was a major help in his 48-spot jump to 16th, with teammate Harry Brook's 35 not out (22) and 34 (20) helping him to a six-spot jump to a share of 38th.

On the other side, two knocks in the 40s from Shai Hope helped the West Indies skipper move 14 spots to 15th, while Rovman Powell made a move into top 20 in large part thanks to an effort of 79 not out from 45 balls in the final T20I.

Jason Holder's series of 70 runs and wicket meanwhile helped the West Indian up 16 spots to 26 in the All-Rounder Rankings.

Positive gains for South African players in ICC Men’s Test Rankings

The new ICC World Test Champions, South Africa, are basking in their glory, as multiple members of their team rise in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.

Leading the charge is Player of the Match from the final at Lord’s, Aiden Markram. The batting hero has risen seven places to just outside the top-10 in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, with only two points separating him from New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell (725) in 10th.

Markram scored a crucial and match-winning 136 runs off 207 balls in a masterful display of Test batting to help take South Africa across the line in the WTC Final.

His equally vital wickets for South Africa have also been rewarded in the Test All-Rounders Rankings, seeing him ascend a whopping 44 places.

David Bedingham, who closed the famous win for South Africa, also made a move of note in the Batting Rankings, climbing 17 places to joint 40 alongside Cameron Green.

Meanwhile, South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who produced an inspirational spell with the ball during Australia’s second innings, has also advanced seven slots in the Bowling Rankings. He shares 37th place with Pakistan’s Naseem Shah and Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara.

Kagiso Rabada, who was the pick of South Africa’s bowlers, maintained his second place among the bowlers, next to India’s Jasprit Bumrah. His 868 ratings points are 21 clear of Pat Cummins who also remains in third place.

For runners up, Australia, seasoned speedster Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Beau Webster benefited from valiant displays.

Starc, who took five wickets through the Test and scored a fighting half-century in the second innings, climbed to 10th spot in the bowlers’ and all-rounders lists.

Webster meanwhile, who was Australia’s top scorer in the first innings, climbed 13 places in the Batting Rankings.

In the ODI Player Rankings, key performers from the Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 action have boasted impressive climbs.

Netherlands’ top-order batter Michael Levitt, who was also handy with the ball, has soared 22 places in the Batting Rankings to go with a climb of 21 among the bowlers and another 27 in the all-rounders charts.

Levitt also leapt 11 places in the T20I batting charts to the 30th spot in the tri-series after League 2 play, just below Pakistan’s Mohammad Haris.

His teammate Noah Croes also jumped 20 places in the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings after making a vital fifty from the four-wicket win against Scotland. Nepal's Aarif Sheikh, who top-scored with the bat in the 16-run win over the Dutch, climbs 13 places in the batting charts.

More change in top 10 as Test Batter Ranking race tightens

New career-high marks for a pair of centurions at the Headingley Test, while gains for Australia's in-form batter and a pair of Sri Lankans.

Further recognition has come for Rishabh Pant after the India star rose to a new career-best rating on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings.

Pant earns a career-high mark on the back of twin centuries for India during the opening Test of the ongoing series against England away from home.

The 27-year-old showed his class with innings of 134 and 118 as India fell to a five-wicket loss and in the process gained one spot to move to sixth overall on the latest rankings for Test batters.

It is one spot shy of the career-high ranking of five that Pant held during this corresponding period in 2022, but his overall rating of 801 points is a new best and has the keeper within 88 points of No.1 ranked batter Joe Root.

Root maintains his narrow advantage at the top after scores of 28 and 53 not out during the Headingley contest, with teammate and No.2 ranked batter Harry Brook 15 rating points behind his more senior teammate.

England opener Ben Duckett also improves to a new career-high rating in eighth place on the batter rankings following his match-winning innings of 149 in the second innings of the Leeds Test, while there are further movements inside the top 20 following the completion of two other Test matches around the world.

Edgbaston heroics see new No.1 ranked Test batter crowned

Big change at the top of the rankings for Test batters following India's emphatic victory over England in Birmingham, while a host of Sri Lankan white-ball stars rise the ODI charts following their series triumph over Bangladesh.

Joe Root has lost his title as the No.1 Test batter in the world as England teammate Harry Brook re-claimed top spot once again following the latest update to the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

Brook rises to the top following a magnificent innings of 158 in the first innings of the second Test against India in Birmingham, with Root dropping back to second spot on the latest rankings and some 18 rating points behind his more junior teammate.

There is further change inside the top 10 for Test batters, with India captain Shubman Gill gaining 15 places to move to a new career-best rating and up to sixth spot overall after his massive contributions in the victory over England at Edgbaston.

Gill hit 269 and 161 to cap off a superb individual match when notching his first victory as Test captain and the right-hander is now just 79 rating points behind Brook with Root (second), Kane Williamson (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth) and Steve Smith (fifth) the only players ahead of him on the rankings for Test batters.

There is also gains and a new career-high rating for England keeper Jamie Smith who improves 16 places to 10th overall for Test batters following innings of 184 not out and 88 across the second Test against India, while South African Wiaan Mulder jumps 34 spots to 22nd on the same list after his unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

Mulder declared South Africa's innings at 626/5 when he had the chance to overhaul Brian Lara's record for the highest Test score and the 27-year-old was rewarded by jumping 12 spots to third on the list for Test all-rounders.

India veteran Ravindra Jadeja maintains a healthy lead at the top of that list, while teammate Jasprit Bumrah is still the No.1 ranked Test bowler despite the fact he sat out his side's victory over England in Birmingham to manage his workload.

His Indian teammate Mohammed Siraj jumps six spots to 22nd on the list for Test bowlers following a good showing against England, while West Indies duo Shamar Joseph (up six spots to 29th) and Alzarri Joseph (up six rungs to 31st) also make gains.

New No.1 Test batter crowned following Lord's finish

Englishman takes back top spot in ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings from compatriot following triumph over India at the Home of Cricket.

England's Joe Root has reclaimed the top spot on the ICC Men's Test Batting rankings after his stellar efforts helped the hosts to a 22-run victory over India at Lord's.

Root (888 rating points) took back the number the No.1 spot off compatriot Harry Brook (862) thanks to scores of 104 and 40, as the hosts took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

It's Root's eighth stint in the top spot and at 34 he is the oldest batter at No.1 since a 37-year-old Kumar Sangakkara held the position in December 2014.

Australian Steve Smith (816) also enjoyed a one-spot bump in the top 10, thanks to a gritty effort in a low-scoring affair in Jamaica against the West Indies.

Smith made 48 in the tourists' victory, with teammate Cameron Green making a 16-spot jump to 29th (619) thanks to scores of 46 and 42.

Bowlers thrived under lights with the pink ball in the Carribean, with Scott Boland's six-wicket effort in the Test (and a hat-trick) leapfrogging him to a career-best sixth spot.

His 62 Test wickets have come at just 16.53 apiece, with only George Lohmann and Sydney Barnes, who played over 110 years ago, having taken more Test wickets at a better average.

Mitchell Starc's incredible effort meanwhile didn't lead to a rankings move (remaining in 10th), though the left-armer did make ground on the nine bowlers above him, moving to 766 rating points and just one shy of Marco Jansen in ninth.

It means Australia have five bowlers in the top 10 with Pat Cummins (third) and Josh Hazlewood (fourth) remaining in their positions following the dismantling of West Indies, and with Nathan Lyon moving down a spot to eighth after making way for Boland for the match.

It gives Australia a domination in the rankings not seen since England had six bowlers in the top 12 in 1958.

West Indies quicks also relished at Sabina Park, with Shamar Joseph (up 15 spots to 14th), Justin Greaves (up 15 spots to 65th) and Alzarri Joseph (up two spots to 29th) also making moves.

At Lord's, Washington Sundar (up 12 spots to 46th) was the the most notable mover in India's meeting with England.

Bowlers were also the movers in the latest T20I Player Rankings, with players across Sri Lanka and Bangladesh making noteworthy moves.

Sri Lanka's Nuwan Thushara and Bangladesh's Rishad Hossain now sit in 16th and 17th thanks to nine and 12-spot jumps respectively, with Binura Fernando entering the top 50 for the first time with a 22-spot jump.

Dasun Shanaka made an eight-spot move to 22nd in the T20I All-Rounders, with Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza moving two spots to 6th thanks to a quick-fire 54 not out against South Africa.
