Well played WI, this lot looks talented, lets hope they mark the revival of WI cricket

Holder and Joseph are great

Do you know anything about Cricket? right before the tournament, Bangladesh destroyed West Indies 3-0. Bangladesh's fielding is far superior to Pakistan under-19s, and that's proving to be the main difference. Not only that, but technically, BD are way superior too. Pakistan batsman couldn't handle the pace and swing of these West Indian fast bowlers.

I saw a glimpse of BD U-19 and they dont look as superior as you make them out to be. Watch out for Windies opening pair of fast bowlers. If they get little juice, your lot might be in trouble.
Windies batting isnt too shabby either.

This under 19 team was very very poor, the management didn't have much high opinion from the team.

Adijazz1706 as told Windies would chase anything to 200 and they have almost done it.

Well excluding that one year, it hasn't been your strength to n tests either. How many series did you win with Asif and Aamer anyway?

Indians keep saying this as if its the job of 2 bowlers to win series all by themselves

The commentator is annoying as if he is making sushi in some Dojo.

Its not about winning series lack of that was due to inept batting most of the times,

Asif and Amir both were in top 10 rankings when they got banned. Asif was banned in 2007-8, and we hardly played any tests at that time, but even Gul was a good bowler then.

Point is just that PAce was our strong suit, before Ajmal became class bowler in 2010.

Congrats to Windies, they should have let Pak out of jail when Pak were 5 down, if they make similar mistakes against stronger opponents, then they will suffer.

Gutted with the outcome of this match.

Was desperately hoping for a India Pakistan final. I hope Bangladesh beat the Windies and India beat SL so that we can have a India Bangladesh final. 2 favourites of the tournament facing in a final would make it exciting. But please no India WI or SL WI final!

From 'pace hasn't been Pakistan's strength since 2007' you have switched to a completely different line of argument. What has them winning a series or not got to do with pace being our strength during that period?

We atleast got some away wins.
Drew in NZ,
Drew against Australia in England
and won one test against England

Umair Masood, Hasan Mohsin and Shadab Khan are only bright spots amid mediocrity.

Pak-India final would have been poor, as our team was actually very weak.

Our team has too many flaws, they are not Semi final or final material. IMO they have punched above their weight to top their group

As usual PCB will give pathetic statements.

* We are lack of talented players
* Our domestic set was not good
* Boys played with the heart out but WI was better team.
* We will do better next time.
* We did better considering our rank is 9.
* Even Australia (;-), South Africa and NZ could not reach to QF

What is wrong in this...boys did played well and it is not written on stone that Pakistan should always win U19 matches ??

Because bowling was too poor and our top order is not international material plus we have only 1 fast bowler.

This time they cannot make comments like "Ind is also losing" :)))

My only concern is that we won't be able to get a single guy from this unit into our national team in future.

Asif was never great in ODIs. Infact apart from that 09/10 season, Pakistan has relied on spin heavily.

Asif was not a great odi bowler but he was a good odi bowler who sneaked in key one or two wickets of oppositions batting mainstays while being economical.

This lot of U-19 are garbage and waste of time. All the investment on these players were also wasted at the end. No one really looks very promising. Even Masood got so many lucks to score 100 today

I am more worried about the lot playing PSL we will not get much out of these domestic players either.

commiserations guys. really thought pakistan would be able to pull this when they got the 4th wicket run out.

People were worried about Quality youngsters in with and now they end up defeating Pakistan.

So its Bangladesh Vs West Indies semi finals then.

The WI players better get ready to play in front of the biggest crowd they have ever played in front of

Expected a BD vs Pak semi, too bad. So India vs BD final on the cards here. India will win no doubt, but well played BD lads

Some very pathetic posts from you its only U-19 not necessarily the benchmark of future.Saffers the defending champs lost to Namibia and Zim.

The U19 stage is not only about wins. Its more about the exposure these kids get and what they learn from it. Results not going your way does not mean failure in the long run.

Exactly and actually those Kids played well..

True that he is speaking as if our other U-19 talents have made great strides in international cricket. Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad and Anwar Ali to name a few have only regressed.Who knows this batch might actually turn to be better.

Anyways in 2007 back when teams toured Pakistan Australian U-19 team came to Pak it had Starc,Faulkner and Hazlewood to name a few in it.We had Junaid khan, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Amin and Muhammad Amir that U-19 team thrashed that Australian team 5-0 look where these players are and where is our lot.

By the way SA U-19 teams not defending can also be attributed to the fact that none of the previous players are in this team it's a completely new team.

True results does not mean failure in the long run it's all about the process :msd

I won't be surprised if players like Umar Amin , Umar Akmal, Junaid Khan & Mohammad Amir retire as excellent players of the game.

It is not over yet.

Umar Akmal is now maturing. And great to see Junaid back much improved speed, line length , stronger & fitter.

Umar Amin has missed out on two PSL ganes only.

agreed about exposure. if an u19 team can unearth two players who can stand up in international cricket, then the tournament has to be considered an unqualified success for the team. we might have beaten england yesterday but i would rather be them than sl considering the talent they showed off.

So Bangladesh vs West Indies it is for the semi-final. Was kinda hoping for BD - Pak not gonna lie. Looks like there is a serious decline in the talent emerging from Pakistan.

Although tbf West Indies shouldn't really have been there and it should have been a Pak - Zim quarter-final. Congrats to Zimbabwe too for thrashing South Africa. What is going on with SA? First Namibia then Zimbabwe.

Thanks for your concern but Bangladesh thrashed WI 3 - 0 just before the World Cup. I think Bangladesh will be able to manage.

Thanks for the info but I already knew and made my comment keeping in mind the potential of both teams. That series didn't have the latest addition to West Indies fast bowling, Holder, who bowled lively fast medium today and complimented the tall Joseph very well.

Bangladesh has done well but struggling against mediocre Nepalese attack doesn't bode well for them.

Make sure you don't allow any fans inside the stadium or your players will crumble under pressure :misbah

Umaid’s brilliant 113 goes in vain as half-centuries by Hetmyer and Imlach help the Windies chase down Pakistan’s 227 with 10 overs to spare

Skipper Shimron Hetmyer and Tevin Imlach hit half-centuries as the West Indies upset Pakistan by five wickets to cruise into the semi-finals of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh on Monday.

Hetmyer scored 52 and Imlach made 54 to ensure a gallant 113 by Umaid Masood went in vain as the West Indies surpassed Pakistan’s 227 for six with 10 overs to spare in Fatullah.

The West Indies take on host Bangladesh in the second semi-final in Mirpur on Thursday. India plays Sri Lanka in the first semi-final at the same venue on Tuesday.

Pakistan’s defeat prevented an all-Asian semi-final despite Umaid’s man of the match-winning performance, but the West Indies played better all-round cricket to emerge deserved winner.

Umaid came to the crease in the 15th over with Pakistan struggling at 40 for four and rebuilt the innings in the company of Salman Fayyaz after half the side was back in the hut by the 21st over.

Umaid, who had scored 13 not out and 10 in previous matches in the tournament, hit 15 boundaries and two sixes before he was out in the final over.

Salman remained unbeaten on a defiant half-century, which included three hits to the fence and a six.

The revival came after a two-wicket burst by seamer Chemar Holder and fiery fast bowling by Alzarri Joseph, who conceded just 28 runs in his 10 overs.

Once Joseph’s spell finished in the 36th over, Pakistan added a further 109 runs to set the West Indies a challenging target.

The Caribbean flair was evident as the West Indies raced to 100 for one by the 16th over.

Hetmyer and Imlach put on 77 for the second wicket to take the score to 122 for one, before two needless run outs saw the total slip to 147 for four.

Shamar Springer was the fifth batsman to fall for 37 when 38 runs were still needed for victory, but Jyd Goolie (26 not out) and Keemo Paul (24 not out) saw their side home.

“This is a wonderful result for us,” said Hetmyer. “It feels good to be through to the semi-finals.

“We just stuck to our plans and executed what we had worked on at practice. It was probably a good toss to lose because our bowlers did very well to take those early wickets.”

Pakistan’s captain Zeeshan Malik congratulated the West Indies, but felt his team should have defended its score.

“Our plan had been to get around 235 because we had the bowlers who were capable of defending it,” he said. “I thought we put up a good score despite the poor start.

“But I must give credit to the West Indies batsmen for playing so aggressively and chasing down the target.”

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe upset the tournament’s defending champion South Africa by eight wickets to enter the Plate Championship final for teams that finished outside the top eight.

Left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava grabbed four for 10 in nine overs as South Africa was shot out for 91, a modest target that Zimbabwe overtook in 22 overs after an unbeaten 34 from Jeremy Ives.

Zimbabwe will take on the winner of the other semi-final between Afghanistan and New Zealand in the final on 12 February.

In a play-off for minor placings, Scotland defeated Fiji by 76 runs in another Plate match in Cox’s Bazar.
