ICC World Cup 2019 : Weather Watch

Does anyone know the cut off time for starting the match before they call it off? To me it looks as though there's a slim chance of the rain easing around 2/2:30ish but I'm not sure if that will already be too late to start by then.

I've got tickets to that game, my first ever World Cup game, and thinking back how hard it was to get them, this is making me sad :(

If you're talking about the PAK VS SL MATCH then... unlucky
Look at the forecast. Heavy rain is at 98% probability and will rain throughout the day

I am looking at the weather maps rather than just the forecast and can see that the rain will have passed by around 1-2pm. My question is, will the umpires wait that long or will the match already have been called off by that stage?

The cutoff time will be 6PM I think so if they can manage to fit in a 20 20 then it's possible.

If that's true then on current weather projections, we should get a game, inshallah!

Even if it stops at 2pm, I don't think that the ground would be ready for a cricket match. So most probably it would be called off. On the brighter side, if there is no play than you will get a 100% refund of your tickets.

It’s gone guys. Time to move on and start preparing for the Aussies.
AUS game is also gone, both of our next two games are highly unlikely to take place. Our next will be against India.

That's too far away to start trusting the weather forecasts.

Pakistan v Australia is on Wednesday, It might be a reduced match but it will not be a complete washout like today.

Will probably be a complete washout. The weather either side of Wednesday has heavy thunderstorms.

Rain will be stopping in a few minutes according to DarkSky. Cut off time is 4PM. I think we can get a 20/20 overs each competition, but they should be smart enough to start it as a 20/20.

I am still not convinced. Match is still 5 days away and these forecasts in UK are not accurate until 24 hours earlier, we will see how things shape up on Tuesday night.

Yeah, that is one aspect so let's hope for the best.

Rain has stopped now. Looks better for next few hours. Could definitely get a 20/20 if everyone makes sensible decision. Just start it as a T20.

How the englishmen have been playing cricket all those years when it rains throughout the year?

Pathetic to give World Cup hosting to England without a reserve day, now the heads must roll. 1999 World Cup [which also happened in UK] had reserve days. With better forecast predictions, moving from the venue should also be an option. If more games are washed out this World Cup and ICC will become a laughing stock all around the world

ICC keeps on repeating the same mistakes again and again, everybody saw just a couple of years ago where there were some rain effected matches in CT 17 during the same months.

For most of the country June is statistically no drier than later in the summer.

Another washed out game. These washed out matches could really affect who goes through to the semis and who doesn’t. Really felt like we lost a point by not getting to play Sri Lanka

You can't take the tournament seriously if so many games are washed out. It will become a joke with people losing interest in it.

This world cup has ended before it even started.

Pakistan v India is also looking likely to be abandoned.

Flooding risk whole of UK this week.

The only thing looking to ruin an otherwise exciting World Cup (in the last 20 years specifically).

Poor from ICC, should’ve done it in June/July peak summer months when there isn’t so much rain.

Aah, but the Ashes are in August, and to England, Ashes are far more important and hyped than a mere world cup

What month do you think it is at the moment?

The Ashes are in August and September, which is historically no drier than June and July.

This is quite ridiculous. If they want to have the WC in England, they should find some other time of the year when it doesn't rain so much. Or they should hold it in a different country.

I remember the 1992 WC, many important games were also rained out.

Pathetic scheduling should havr played Ashes before the Wc jun July Ashes sharinkla then Aug Sep Wc hats off to ICC for jeopardizing the mega event lets hop Eng vs Afg and Ind vs Bang is washed out :14:

If another couple of games are abandoned due to rain, then it would make sense to abandon the whole tournament due to Rain , and then reschedule to World Cup 2020 next year — there’s already a T20 World Cup next year and the year after so won’t make much of a difference if one was cancelled and replaced with 50 overs.

Pakistan vs India weather watch

Seeing as there are so many posts regarding the weather for tomorrow’s big game in other threads I thought why not make one specifically for it. As of now living in the uk and seeing all the weather forecasts for Manchester, it seems as though there will be a few showers in the area for the match. However most forecasters are predicting a 30-50% chance of showers throughout the day! Which means it could go either way. Let’s hope for a result as it would be a major disappointment to not have this epic encounter!

Met office is the most reliable one, I use it on daily basis. 80 percent chance of rain at 11 and 90 percent chance at 5pm. It's not looking good at all to be fair .

I think any forecaster (BBC or whoever) would do their best to show as good weather as possible for tomorrow. So much resting on this match and it’s going to be washed out.
Really feel bad for people that have spent thousands of pounds travelling to Manchester for this game.

It's bone dry in the north east, so frustrating to hear that there is bad weather in Manchester tomorrow.

Folks i am from Manchester...to say its raining cats and dogs is an understatement more like elephants and hippos at the moment unfortunately...

The sun has broken though, it's sunshine! the weather throwing up some googlies here.

You think there is someone manually entering all the percents for rain, etc in this day and age. I am pretty sure they are using computer based forecasting models to produce the forecast. Imaging have a guy or guys doing manual forecast for every city globally on sites like these!!

BBC and metoffice are now showing lower percentages for rain tomorrow

Seems like the game on

Whoop whoop

India vs Pakistan: Sunil Gavaskar, Harbhajan Singh slam ECB over lack of rain preparedness

Former India captain and batting great Sunil Gavaskar questioned the apparent lack of rain preparedness of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after rain interruption in quite a few matches.

Sunil Gavaskar, speaking to India from Old Trafford in Manchester, said the inability of the ECB to have cricket grounds fully covered is "totally unacceptable". It was pouring down in Manchester even as Gavaskar was expressing his frustration at the puddles that were being formed on the uncovered areas of the outfield.

India take on Pakistan in what is arguably the biggest match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Sunday in Manchester. However, rain threat looms large over the big-ticket encounter. With the Old Trafford ground taking a lot of water due to the rain in the lead up to Sunday, the wet patches are going to be a cause for concern if the wet weather persists.

Notably, India's World Cup 2019 match against New Zealand on Thursday was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Nottingham. There was constant drizzle throughout the duration of the match and on-field umpires had echoed their concerns over the wet patches at Trent Bridge which wasn't covered entirely as well.

"I am kind of hoping this rain goes away and the sun shines bright because the whole world is waiting for this match [India vs Pakistan]," Gavaskar told India Today on Saturday.

Gavaskar added: "Terrible (Ground not covered on Saturday). Unacceptable. This is a big tournament. You know the conditions in England and not to have that (extra covers) is absolutely unacceptable in my view. In a country like the West Indies, or in some parts of India where it hardly rains, you can understand grounds not being fully covered. However, Kolkata has got it done. Sri Lanka has it, has covers all over the ground.

"Why can't England? England often tells other countries what they should be doing in cricket. England should be the one that should have it because it rains and rains regularly. You can't have a situation where thousands of people come from different parts of the world and sit here and the game does not start."

Harbhajan Singh, who joined Sunil Gavaskar on the show, said he wasn't fully satisfied with the Old Trafford's drainage and the mud-based outfield at the iconic venue.

"There should be a game, provided how long this rain will last. If it continues to be like this, the drainage system in this ground is not that great. I was on the ground and the outfield is quite wet. A few patches are really, really bad. I hope this stops at some point today so that we can get a match tomorrow," Harbhajan Singh said.

"This is not a sand-based ground, this is proper mud-based soil (in Manchester). Once it gets wet, it will stay wet until the sun comes out. As Sunny Bhai said, they should have covered the whole ground. It happened the other day in Nottingham and in a few other matches as well."

Gavaskar wants ICC to punish ECB if India-Pakistan is washed out

Stressing that the International Cricket Council should withhold the money that ECB gets from hosting the India-Pakistan match if it gets washed out, Gavaskar said ICC should take punitive action against the host board.

Thousands of fans have reportedly travelled to Manchester from across the globe for the India-Pakistan match. Tickets for the match was sold out within minutes of ticket window opening and fans are even reportedly willing to resell their tickets.

"Well, ECB (is responsible). ECB is the one that runs the game here. The Lancashire county cricket club comes under its jurisdiction. So it's the ECB's responsibility," Gavaskar added.

"I also believe the ICC needs to tell the ECB now 'the game hasn't taken place because of negligence from your part. So you will not get that guaranteed $750,000. ECB gets $750,000 irrespective of whether a ball is bowled or not. That should not be the case. If the game doesn't start tomorrow because of this, I don't think the ICC should be giving ECB money.

"I hope people who have been trying to talk things about India and not giving India their share of the money, now look at this and put their foot down and show by example that what is good for one, should be good for everybody."

40 percent chance of rain or under usually means it wont be a long stoppage or may not even rain. 50 percent chance of rain is a funny prediction because that means it might or mohjt not rain which you don't need a weather forecast for . :)))

I think we will get enough overs in for a game.

Indian fans claiming Pakistan is not longer a rival nor the biggest, yet here we have BCCI and its shills crying a river because the match may not take place due to rain.

Simply because they don't want to share a point with a lesser rival.

Yet didn't mind sharing a point with NZ.

So much for the bravado that India didn't want to play Pakistan, sounds like India is not only desperate to play Pakistan, but desperate to beat Pakistan - so much so, trying to twist the ICC into not paying the ECB $750000. What a laughable threat.
