ICC World Cup 2023: Warm-ups discussion (non-Pakistan)

These warm ups are a joke

No intensity at all. Waste of time

Yes, but I do think they will be useful for us. Only Nawaz has played in India before and our lads need some exposure there before they get into the thick of things

England going to find it difficult on this pitch against Bangladesh with this sort of bounce.

Bangladesh is so good at producing All-rounders. After Shakib, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is showing pure class.

50* off 64 balls against mighty England bowling attack

NZ batsmen seem to enjoy the wickets in India. Another big score on the cards here;

Currently they are 215/1 after 35 overs against SA. Should get 100+ runs in the last 15 overs.

I'm actually suprised no one has NZ as their favourites. They weren't even favourites in 2015 and 2019 despite reaching finals and losing in 2019 due to bad luck.

They got a goated bowling attack, with a really strong batting attack. Ironically this time the weak link is Williamson due to not being fit.

Glenn Philips, Devon Conway, Mark Chapman, ravindra, These guys seem to be at home playing in Indian conditions. Their literally playing like all stars in India.

They have a solid team. They tick all the boxes. Quality top order, middle order , also have a player like Glenn Philips that can change the game in short span of time. Bowling and fielding is going to be reliable as always.

Agree. They are a solid team 💪

Kohli has made a quick dash to Mumbai due to personal reasons before joining the team in Thiruvananthapuram for 2nd warm-up. The rumour mills are buzzing with news that the couple may be expecting their second child.

Seems like Poms will not get much needed batting practise before their opening match against NZ, whereas NZ have had best possible warm ups.

Tanzid Tamim looked good today and was brilliant against Lanka. Good prospect but need to show it in the real games! But looks promising. I was doubtful from what a saw of him Asia Cup.

He was the best reserve of Bangladesh though he could not show his worth in Asia cup... hopefully he will show that in the world cup and verify his inclusion instead of senior Tamim

Innings break.
BD 188/9 (37 ov)
9 bowlers used by England.

Easy target for mighty They would make it in 25/30 overs.

England lost an early wicket. Dawid Malan returned back to pavilion 4(2)

Eng 28/1 (2.1/37 overs)

Oh look, spectators in Eng vs Bang warm up game.

Clearly BCCI will do anything in power to stop the great Pakistan to win the WC! FEAR!

Bairstow departed after fire knock of 34 off 21.

Mustafizur has clinched 2 wickets of england's both openers

Eng 58/2 (5.4/37)

NZ are going to be right up there.

They are better than their 2019 side and have several match winnings players in their ranks.

Along with India I’d say they’re favourites for a semi final spot.

Height of stupidity by de kock. He is not feeling well. Struggling with dehydration. Yet he continues to bat with exhaustion.

Midget keeper missed two catches!! Shortest keeper going around! Liton Das is slightly taller than mushy, every inch matters as keeper. Mushy probably 5ft 3? Das 5ft 5/6?

England are brilliant to watch they just keep going hard. Never get bogged down especially on such surfaces they tonk the opposite side hard.

Can't understand why BD still not using any spinner...Miraz,Mahedi and Nasum should bowl now as shakib is not there

New Zealand trump South Africa by a narrow margin in the warm-ups after rain interrupts a thrilling clash.
New Zealand won by 7 runs (DLS method)

I’m wondering Who will stop this dangerous England side! I don’t want Bd to bat first against England in Dharmashala pitch.

England 161/5 after 20 overs. They are making a statement before the World Cup with this dominating performance.

Moeen is a beast against spin in India especially IPL. He is going to be a force. Left arm spinners/Leggies beware. He can end your career in one over.

I won’t mind England scoring 200/10 in 25 overs against BD in Dharmashala if England put into bat first. 250 is probably the per score there.

With a lot of rain around there may be tie situations in world cup where NRR will become important. England's approach will hold them in good stead in such situations

England won by 4 wickets against Bangladesh. (DLS Method)

Bangladesh 188/9 (37 overs)
England 197/6 (24.1 Overs)

Bangladesh vs England Warm Up Match Guwahati, October 02, 2023

England finalised their preparation for their 50-over World Cup defence with a four-wicket win over Bangladesh.

Moeen Ali crashed 56 off 39 balls, including six sixes, as England chased a revised target of 197 with 77 balls remaining in Guwahati.

Reece Topley took 3-23 as Bangladesh made 188-9 from their 37 overs, with rain causing a three-hour delay during the middle of their innings.

England start their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on Thursday.

After losing the toss and being asked to bowl England started poorly with Topley and Sam Curran struggling with their length.

However, they recovered and England took regular wickets to leave Bangladesh 153-5 off 30 overs when the rain arrived.

England were brilliant after the resumption with David Willey taking two wickets in two balls, plus Topley and Curran also taking a wicket.

Jos Buttler used all nine of his main bowling options, with Mark Wood and Adil Rashid bowling for the first time since July and 8 September respectively because of injuries.

England lost Dawid Malan (four) early in their innings but rattled to 100-3 in 10 overs, with Jonny Bairstow, who received some treatment on a lower back injury, making 34 off 21 and Harry Brook 17 off 15.

Buttler added 30 and Liam Livingstone seven, before Moeen attacked the short ball and spinners to propel England towards a comfortable win.

He fell with them needing four to win, but Joe Root, who made a patient 26 off 40 as he looks to find form, and Chris Woakes saw them over the line.

New Zealand vs South Africa Warm Up Match Thiruvananthapuram, October 02, 2023

Conway shines in Black Caps win

Devon Conway and Tom Latham both struck half-centuries as New Zealand overcame South Africa at the Greenfield International Stadium.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, the Kiwis lost Will Young (12) early but Latham combined with Kane Williamson, continuing his return to fitness, to steady the ship.

Both ended up retiring, Williamson on 37 and Conway on 78, to allow their teammates valuable time in the middle and it paid off as Latham compiled a fluent 52 and Glenn Phillips chipped in with 43 from 40 balls.

Daryl Mitchell’s 25 from 16 injected late momentum as New Zealand finished on 321/6, with the wickets shared between Lungi Ngidi (3/33) and Marco Jansen (3/45).

South Africa’s run chase got off to a poor start as Reeza Hendricks fell for a golden duck, trapped in front by Trent Boult, but Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen got them back on track before the latter departed for 51.

Boult later returned to end a promising fourth-wicket partnership between de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen, who was caught behind for 39, with de Kock unbeaten on 84 when the rain came with his side just shy of the DLS par score.

Both sides will next be in action when the competition is underway. New Zealand entertain England in the opener on Thursday while South Africa begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

He should have retired out after getting a good fifty but he is currently batting at 135*. We know he is already in good form so should let others get some much needed practice.

From Rajkot to Guwahati and then from Guwahati to Thiruvananthapuram.
Team India travelled 6,115km just to see rain in both the Warm Up matches!

Sri Lanka is 210/2 in 26 overs. They are completely thrashing Afghans.

The India vs. Netherlands match has been abandoned without a ball bowled.

Why is Kushal Mendis still batting? Its just a warm up match so give other batsman apportunity to have some practice

Team India will start their CWC23 campaign without playing any warm-up games.

Their second warm-up clash vs Netherlands has also been called off due to heavy rain in Thiruvananthapuram.

Match delay due to rain AFG-118/1 (20.5 over) vs SL-294/10

Afghanistan can actually win this if rain allows

Too much rain around.

I remember looking up some simple info about India in Sept/October and it is still a portion of the rainy season. Wasnt the last world cup in India helps in like march? Did the IPL scupper plans this time around?

Just more poor planning.

BCCI wanted to host it in March only...that was original plan. But due to pandemic, ODI super league and WC qualifiers got postponed. So had to shift the world cup main tournament.

Afghanistan 152/1 after 26 overs. 105 runs now needed in 96 balls.

Gurbaz is on FIRE.He has hit 6 sixes in the last couple of overs. Afghanistan are cruising now. Just need 26 runs off 60 balls.
