If a bowler is injured in a Test (non concussion related), should a sub bowler be allowed?

Watching India vs West Indies, Shannon Gabriel looks to be limping and is forcing himself to bowl. This could make his injury worse but he doesn't want to leave his team short on a decent surface for his profile of bowler.

I have been thinking about this for a while, but if a bowler is injured in a test and unable to continue for the rest of the test. Why can't a substitute bowler be allowed? I think it's unfair to leave a team with 3 bowlers through no fault of their own. Also the team with 3 bowlers will than have to over bowl their bowlers and this could cause injury and force bowlers to miss games. So it has a long term affect. That game is also affected as it gives the opponents an unfair advantage.

I would like to see a rule implemented where a bowler who can't bowl for the rest of the test be replaced by a bowler.

Brother i understand your concern but first of all

Many times players lie about thier fitness to either get selected in team or drop out for personal reasosns and there is no way to tell if person is completly fit or not, thus its respective boards responsibility to ensure they are selecting players that are fully fit to play full 5 days.

If such rule as u mentioned it implemented it will be misused in same way substitute fielder rule is just by bringing in specialist fielders to field.

While it seems unfair to have remaining bowlers get all the load,we have to remember there are no restrictions on selecting how many bowlers or all rounders a team can play.

Thus playing 4 bowlers is always bad in test since injury can happen anytime and that is why least 5 bowlers must be preffered with extra bowling all rounders to minimise the damage.

We also have to take in account that bowler if not fit can always call it off and have replacment called in next match.it is not at all oppositions fault and they cant be penalised by having a different bowler be bowled who wasnt initially in playing11 rooster

But i think such rule can be implemented where only 1 bowling replacement can be allowed in a test match by both sides and if that happenes both sides will use it to its full extent

Concussion related substitutions are relatively straightforward because they are dependent on a chance event - a player getting seriously hit on the head. It can’t be planned.

Bowling substitutions would generally be impossible to monitor since there’s no way to prove that a bowler wasn’t already injured prior to the game (and the complexity of trying to prove otherwise under the match related time crunch). It would also incentivize teams to risk half-fit players.

So it can’t really work. The only scenario where this could make sense is if there’s a clear physical injury involved (example, ankle break while fielding). But those instances are rare and should apply to any player not just bowlers.

I think it's possible, the officials just have to ask for evidence, which could be an MRI, X-ray, a doctor's letter etc.
I remember in the world cup someone got injured, maybe Muhammad Shahzad, and the ICC required evidence of his injury (which was int he form of a scan) before they allowed Afghanistan to call for a replacement.

Yes they should be allowed but said player must be off the field and not bowl for at least 20-30 overs. Also a fast bowler should only be able to replace a fast bowler and a spinner should only replace a spinner.

I think there should be two substitutions in cricket. It can make the game more interesting. It can also allow teams to reduce injuries.

i think they tried the idea of subs in cricket a few years ago, didn't really work too well, the team who won the toss always benefited with the way the rules were set up.

No concussion I can sort of understand but injury no players are suppose to manage injuries.

Sri Lanka whole bowling attack got injured during the game which gave them a massive disadvantage.

Mickey Arthur has said he will discuss with ICC about injury subs. Surely there needs to be a rule in place where if a bowler cannot finish a test match off due to injury, he can be replaced by a sub.
