If CANZUK becomes a reality, how many British Muslims would prefer moving to Canada?

So lately there's been talk about a loose intercontinental union between the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand with freedom of movement and free trade, although this seems like a long shot and I don't think it will ever materialize however hypothetically speaking for this thread, if it were to become a reality and there was freedom movement, meaning that citizens of each of these countries could permanently move and work in any of the other member states without a permit sort of like the Schengen zone right now, considering how a lot of British Pakistanis have told me about the issues they face in the UK cause of their conservative dominated government and media plus the fact that the UK is overpopulated and has a very high cost of living and real estate while Canada seems like the opposite and I know many people in the Pakistani diaspora hold Canada in high regard, so I was wondering would be there be a large scale migration of Brit Muslims to Canada in the event of a CANZUK alliance? I personally think they'd prefer over Austalia and New Zealand.

Canada has a lot more land, less people, better paying jobs, more affordable and larger housing, a large Muslim community and much more accepting and progressive government, plus demographically Asians make up 18% of the population and because of the sheer diversity of Canada, that prevents a conservative domination of their government unlike in the UK.

Maybe compared to UK, but overall large swathes of Canadian land is uninhabitable, the housing in GTA is almost as expensive as Europe and I am not sure Canada is much better paying than UK.

Even the southern parts of Canada all together many times larger than the UKs entire landmass. Overall I think there would be a surge in the Muslim/Asian population moving into Canada from the UK, just my hypotheses.

Unfortunately in Canada it's very hard to get jobs unless you have studied in Canada and/or have job experience from Canada or US. Not saying it can't be done, there are ton of examples where people have gotten jobs despite those obstacles, but it's nowhere near as easy as someone that is Canadian educated and has work experience there.

There are a ton of affordable parts of Canada. Southwestern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Manitoba (really cold though), Alberta.

I think a British education and work experience is an edge and it puts them at an advantage against people that studied in the global south, also having a British accent in North America takes you a long way - it's just got that novelty factor that most North Americans geek over. Plenty of British expats live in Canada already they don't have issues finding work or running a business, so think it's not that big a deal. I think Canada is also far better for opening business than the UK.

Did I read "affordable housing"? lol
Canada's housing is extremely expensive. Locals can't even afford to buy a home here, it is all foreign buyers there days buying. Canada has land but obviously majority is inhabitable and protected, hence why the miniscule population. And no, Canada doesn't have better paying jobs. A lot of professionals like me are moving to US and other countries for jobs because A) Canada has less jobs now (highest unemployment in G7 these days) and B) Life is not sustainable with less pay and as expensive housing as San Francisco.

Yes, Canada does have diversity, not as much as UK, but definitely way more than NZ. Govts here, whether liberal or conservative are quite progressive so 10/10 to Canada for that. There are positives, but negatives are creeping up day by day like in my first para.

True but from an American standpoint and someone who is not familiar with the job market conditions in the UK, like what you said the employment opportunities are not as abundant, especially if you don’t hold a Canadian degree. Most of the areas outside of GTA, Calgary and Vancouver are beautiful and all and not as expensive but are there employment opportunities for immigrants? Business, tech, etc?

If you know French, I guess you could explore the Montreal area as well but it really narrows down to a few cities. I am sure overall it cannot be a whole lot different compared to UK.

Housing is a major concern in GTA and vancouver area. But from what I understand it’s not much different from the UK.

You can own a nice house in the US for $175k and upwards (depending on the area) but you can at least think of owning a house for that much money.. in the UK and Canadian cities where employment opportunities are decent you can forget about it if you range is between 175-300 k US dollars.. they usually start from $375 k and upwards. A nice 3-4 bedroom house in the GTA will set you back around $750-800k from what I hear.

In Canada, it also depends on the area. You can definitely find decent houses for US $175K in the prairie or east coast region. Seems to me like you are comparing housing in Rural areas in US to the GTA.

Keep in mind that CANZUK does not include the United States so I'm just comparing Canada to the UK and Australia and I think Canada is the best option for British Muslims if freedom of movement is established. Canada may not be anywhere near as affordable as America and not have the same opportunities but for UK Muslims wanting a change of pace and scenery it seems like the best option.

I wouldn’t blame British Muslims for going to Canada. UK is becoming a more openly racist place as nationalist feelings have been stirred up by unscrupulous individuals. Canada is more liberal and their NHS better funded too.

I would consider emigrating, as Britain does not feel right any more, but I am getting a bit long in the tooth and their winters are harsh.

Though you can ski.

Only reason I can think of moving to Canada would be the landscape. Some of the scenery looks spectacular, and it would be great for outdoor stuff. Climate-wise, I suppose the harsh winters could be offset by proper summers, assuming they have them. Don't actually know that much about the climate over there to be honest.

Seems like a nice place to spend a month or so, not sure about moving there permanently.

I tend to disagree, I would say Britain is becoming less openly racist, although there is definitely a rise in closet racism. It's mostly an impression fuelled by media so every day after reading your typical popular newspaper you will feel the divide more.

But on the street you don't really get aggressive racism, it tends to be more passive. I suppose that's where you get the arise of BLM type movements. It's the small things which create a feeling of mistrust, not obvious racism, and Brits have always been the masters of that.

I don't know if it's different in Canada. In Britain, the more cosmopolitan areas where there is a high degree of multiculturalism, it feels a lot less racist than in the more insular white areas.

The summers are amazing they definitely make up for the cold winters.

I was in Toronto in June once, it was warm. They get serious snow in winter but of course they know how to handle it, with electric heaters to keep their car engines warm overnight and snowploughs on the trains. Not like us where six inches of snow shuts down LHR.

Some of the major affordable areas have good opportunities, some less so. For example, Kitchener/Waterloo and Montreal have a ton of opportunities. London, Windsor, Kingston less so. Mind you, you don't actually need to learn French for most jobs in Montreal or to live there. I think Calgary also has is relatively affordable. The only really expensive markets are GTA and Vancouver.

I don't think i'd ever leave Britain. When I was younger the thought of some tax free money in the ME was something that appealed to me but I dont think I'd like to do that now.

Bhai even in Prairies, starting price for 3 bedroom house is upward of $400k cad...

Then that would be a big draw for me as I quite like snow as long as it doesn't shut everything down. That combined with Canada's natural beauty would be persuasive. If I was an immigrant choosing between Canada and the UK I would probably pick Canada over Britain, not going to lie. Australia too, for the same reasons.

I lived in the UK for more than a year and have been living in Canada for the past 4 years. I would personally always choose Canada

Yeah, unfortunately the opportunities are lacking in Canada and expense of living is quite high, one of the highest now in the world (housing, telecommunications, utilities etc.). The main reason for expense apart from housing is lack of competition. Buddy corporations now allowing any outside company to come in, one example I can give right now is your Bell Rogers Shaw etc not allowing any US companies. This allows lack of competition which in turn enables the prices to be quite high. Same can be said about banks and other sectors.

Housing is a frikkin gong show. It is not affordable right now for any new grad to come out, not only struggle to find a job but has to accumulate 20% down for a house in Canada. So those buying are majority foreign earners, which in turn is further increasing the house prices. I know, ridiculous.

I am happy though to say that Canada are probably leaders of inclusion and diversity (NZ is probably there too). There are racists everywhere but in Canada they can't find shelter as a common person is quite pro diversity, be it 5th generation Canadian or 1st generation.

personally love the direction of the Canadian culture. Very inclusive, very accommodating and warm, I love the GTA area every time I visit. Love the weather, (of course I dont mind the snow so much), there is a good cricket scene, the desi community, etc. If they had a decent job and housing market, I would move there in a heartbeat.

Still love to drive across the border every few months.

The 175k price tag definitely won't be available in US in cities/suburbs where there are a lot of opportunities and where immigrants want to live. 300k though, probably.

Not true. You can easily find a house in the suburbs of some major southern cities for $175-250k easy.

Depends on the opportunities available in or nearby these cities. Housing prices that low indicate that there is not alot of demand for housing which further indicates lack of job opportunities.

There has been a change in culture in the last 6-7 years. The country did go to a very dark place during the Harper era especially during the second half.

There is still some closet racism. Also, the inclusion part is mostly applicable in the major cities. Small towns not so much lol

There is a reason why all immigrants flock to major cities.

This

The uk might have become more racist as white folk mainly from the other three countries think immigrants have taken over the Conservative party and the minority think white people have become more racist as they try and control immigration more
Donald trump is partly to blame only because brexit coincided with him getting the keys for the White House

Oh are you in Buffalo?
All the points you mentioned are also in NYC (my favourite city). I think state of New York is slightly cheaper than southern ontario in terms of housing (if we exclude manhattan and close to manhattan areas). Diversity and inclusion is also there in New York and definitely jobs are more than in Ontario (unfortunately). Same goes for Michigan just like New York.

But yes, i get it, there is this vibe there Toronto. I get it! Hard to beat that no doubt. I still love toronto eventhough I don't live there anymore, but definitely visit that place every few months.

Wait 10 years, those old racist farts in parliament would probably die.

Texas real estate is a bit cheaper and you could move to say Louisiana closer to a bigger city and have decent employers around and find a medium quality house for that range. Same goes for other southern states.. now the situation in north east, Midwest, California and pac northwest is very different. The prices are sky high especially in California and pac NW. but my point is there is a big chunk as big as UK or Canada here where your can find a decent job and a decent house around $175-250k.

I am not sure how beneficial CANZUK will be for Canada. I think Canada is fine with present status quo.

Canada can try something like this with USA though (due to similarities in culture and proximity).

Would love to go to NZ. Australia won't be a part of it with their awful immigration laws but Canada, NZ very much a possibility. Though maybe Jamaica/Windies ought to be included ... They've still barred those that are legally British

As long as Americans can't come to Canada to get healthcare given the absolutely atrocious healthcare system of the US.

UK is not like France, Austria or Poland. Racists keep their feelings in their hearts most of the time because this isnt the 60's. Now there are so many brown and black people, racists need police protection to even express their views within the law. We smash these fools, they know their place now.

Canada seems a great country but cold.

From my experience the UK is still one of the most tolerant countries in the world and racism is more apparent in the older generation.
Amongst the youth racism and Islamophobia seems far less tolerated than it was before hence why the tories are incredibly unpopular amongst younger people.
The reason why the conservatives won a majority last year was because people were fed up with uncertainty over brexit and the majority of the population is still in the above generation which is less tolerant.
I'm not doubting Canada and New Zealand are more tolerant nations though but that could also be as a result of the fact that the immigrant populations there are much more skilled and 'high class' as compared to in the UK where the majority of muslim immigrants are in the low socio economic bracket.

Canada’s economy is like 80% tied to the US. The last four years of Trump are probably an eye opener for a need to expand beyond the US.

Although, I don’t think we will go as far as CANZUK.

CANZUK won't replace Canada's ties with America, it'll sorta be like the EU minus a common currency.

Canada doesnt have cricket or football or major sports event as we do in the UK. Basketball isnt so popular here.

I would like to visit Canada, does anyone know if Brits are given a free visa on entry?

Most of those high class skills might prove easily replaceable. None of them have made much impact beyond being beyond 'immigrants', so I am not sure their value is that high.

You have to apply online for eTA - basically an e-visa. Similar to an ESTA for the States.

I was there last year in September and approval came through within 10-15 mins after I made the application.

Never said that it would but still the need to diversify our trade partners is there.

CANZUK still seems very unlikely to happen but yea free trade agreements are a much more realistic possibility.

Really eh? I remember being allowed into London, England visa free with a Canadian Passport.

The funny thing was, I was in Louisville for a couple of days (checking out the Muhammad Ali Center) and I had a flight booked from Louisville to Toronto via Charlotte. My fault for not checking really, but I had no idea I had to apply for the eTA to get into Canada, so I got to the airport in Louisville and tried to check in via the touch screen and it wouldn't allow me to. I then spoke to the guys at the check in desks and they said that I hadn't applied for an eTA.

I did so there and then on my phone in the airport. Luckily approval came quick otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get into Canada.

They're co hosting the 2026 fifa world cup, they've host summer and winter olympics a couple times, they also got their own sports like ice hockey, canadian football and lacrosse although they don't have that international appeal. The only thing they lack is cricket and UEFA-level soccer but they do got amateur cricket clubs everywhere and have 3 MLS teams along with their own soccer league.

Desis should try to get out of UK because of the racism from ethnic whites.

I know the other 3 can be racist, but the original natives from there are colored so the racism will end eventually, but in places like England, the white people will always be mad at the “outsiders.”

Yes im thinking of going to the world cup in 2026 , see footie and explore Canada at the same time.

I think for me it's habits, I love the English summer. It doesnt get dark until after 9.30pm. Sitting on a grass field and watching cricket under an oak tree is something hard to move on from. Also Anfield is too hard to leave.

Bro, these racists are cowards, usually fat blokes with beer bellies and poor hygiene. They cannot fight at all. Also anti-racists prey on them.

Check this out lol

Thanks. :)

Yo it's the same in North America, especially in the north and Canada the sun doesn't set till like 10 pm in the summer

It's a one way requirement. UK doesn't have such a requirement. EU didn't have such a requirement either but it's coming into effect in either 2021 or 2022 for Canadians.

UK weather and transport is far better than in Canada. Even I felt that UK food is cheaper and restaurants have better tasting food.

I hope not and rather it be the other way around for Visa free entry for Brits into Canada. But yea as Uzi mentioned if it is just a 15 minute process than it’s not such a big deal.
