Usman Khan during the press conference after his useful innings of 37* off 28 balls in the first match of the T20I Tri-series in Rawalpindi.

Q
: Usman, Mashallah, you played very well today when the team needed you most. As a wicketkeeper, do you think the management and coaches are considering your role for the World Cup? How confident are you after this innings?
A: First of all, I thank Allah. I don’t know about the World Cup team, but my effort is to perform better than other keeper-batters and contribute with the bat. Early wickets fell today, and the coach told me to stay at the crease, build a partnership, and finish the game. Alhamdulillah, I was able to do that.

---

Q: You have a special connection with Rawalpindi. You’ve scored centuries here and today played another match-winning knock. Do you consider Pindi a lucky ground? And reflecting on your disappointment after the Pakistan-India match in New York, do you feel you’ve completed the “circle” of returning through domestic cricket?
A: I’ve played first-class matches, one-day games, the Hanif Muhammad Trophy, and local tournaments in Pakistan. I worked hard on my fitness, which was weak initially, and the coaches helped me improve. Better fitness made wicketkeeping easier. Regarding Pindi, it’s a different wicket, but I’ve played many PSL matches here. I now focus on spending time at the crease, building partnerships, and playing longer innings instead of rushing shots. That’s been my improvement.

---

Q: Mohammad Haris once replaced Mohammad Rizwan but couldn’t succeed. Now you’re filling Rizwan’s role. Does that add pressure? And when you first came from the UAE and struggled, did you regret returning?
A: No, I never thought it was a mistake. Playing for Pakistan is everyone’s dream, and I accepted the chance wholeheartedly. In the UAE, you remain an associate player, but here it’s a Test nation. Performances are visible in the social media era, and Allah rewards hard work. Rizwan is a legendary wicketkeeper, and I can’t compare myself to him. My role is to keep wickets and give my best for Pakistan.

---

Q: You were the first-choice keeper in the UAE, but in Pakistan you faced tough competition from Rizwan, Haseebullah, and Haris. With the World Cup coming, how difficult will it be to secure a spot?
A: I don’t think that far ahead. If I get a chance, I’ll play my natural game and give 100% for the team. My focus is on performing on the ground, not on future tournaments. If you perform well, opportunities will come.

---

Q: In PSL, you often bat at different positions, and today we saw similar shuffling. Do you think batting numbers should be fixed, or do you adapt to whatever role is given?
A: In T20s, batting numbers have been consistent. Coaches told me I’d play at No. 5 or 6 and keep wickets. Most of my cricket has been at those positions. Even in domestic tournaments, I’ve batted at 4, 5, or 6. I adjust according to management’s decision.

---

Q: Finally, congratulations on the win. Pakistan chased 148 in the last over. Were batting conditions difficult, especially with the heavy dew mentioned by Brad Evans?
A: Conditions weren’t ideal. As a keeper, I noticed the ball was slowing down. Zimbabwe played very well in the last eight overs, which stretched the target. We made a good comeback by building partnerships, rotating strike, and taking boundary opportunities. Fakhar Bhai also played brilliantly, whenever the required run rate was 10, he told me not to worry, just keep singles, and he would take the chances.

He doesnt look good but is effective.
This is a fair comment but we used to have Younis Khan who didn't look good while batting but he was mighty effective. Some players have odd techniques and they don't look good while they are batting but they can be very effective for their team.

Played a type of knock that was required last night... But I don't think he will do anything against a solid attack and at a rapid pace... Not convinced by this guy tbh

Natural game was a good buzz word in the 90s. Come out of it now. Just call it jharoo. Aur jab tak jharoo chalay tab tak ballay ballay washmallay.

The guy has no front foot game at all and will get squared up to 80% of balls on good length.

Got saved by Nawaz in the end. Not convinced about him at all. He can play few effective strokes against spin, but beside that still has same technique that will fail 8 times out of 10 against top sides bowling. Unfortunately, we really dont have any solid options at the moment.

I was more happy that he didnt make any glaring errors while keeping which his predecessor was making before being dropped so at least he had that part covered.

Batting wise, not even sure he can develop into a solid striker or middle order player in the long run. I just keel he is keeping seat warm for Rizwan to come back before world cup. Maybe at that time if Agha doesnt find t20 form and Shadab is fit they will replace him with Shadab so we dont end up with 3 accumulator in Babar, Agha and Rizwan all back in t20 side.

Is he? This is the first knock I have ever seen being effective in, in internationals. It's not a pattern yet and his technique looks very suspect. However if he can repeat this then it will be very good for Pakistan
We just dont have the batters in T20s from nos 4 to 6 with experience of winning matches, so we need more innings like that.. but at a higher pace of course just like the rest of the world.

Why was Babar brought back? What is the plan with him? On what basis did you bring Babar, a failed T20 cricketer back to play the World Cup in Sri Lanka?

One of the absolute ugliest players to watch. Complete hack or will keep getting exposed, just like has been so far. The fact that this is the level of our main T20I wicketkeeper speaks volumes about the dearth in international-level talent available to Pakistan right now.

Rizwan is a legendary wicketkeeper, in which dunya?
Last few months this country has gone nuts with Rizwan

Whatever his PR company is doing behind the scenes is top work for him.

They seem to have forgotten all the b.s he has put Pakistan through over the last few years.

UK has a T20 average of 31 with a sr of 144 in 75 games

That’s quite good. It will do. You need him. You brought him in to tackle spin for you in the middle order. He will do this better than Babar for you.

He clearly has a better game and approach for outside of the powerplay batting as well unlike Rizwan who can only bat if he gets to have a little headstart in his innings during the powerplay.

He is your best choice to keep if you are not going to be brave enough and take Harris.

Deal with it!

The thread is not about Babar... I will nto reply to your useless, irrelevant talk.... Find a relevant thread for your useless obsession, bro... This is unhealthy for you TBH

Won’t last more than 3/4 delivery’s against top 3 sides. Horrendous Saturday taxi drivers freshies league cricket technic.

The problem is, you people do not apply the same standards equally for players you do not like or players that threaten the position of those who you want to protect.

How is it that Babar has played over 100 T20is and has CLEAR FLAWS and deficiencies in his game but he is international standard to you as compared to guys who have only played a handful of matches and are at the beginning of their careers??

Ok, let’s talk about Salman

Let’s talk about Fakhar

Who are we comparing them to? Babar and Rizwan? Are we comparing them to RizBar as T20 openers?

You really want to go down this path? Comparing a middle order batsman to Rizwan?

Soch le bhai. Bila waja Rizwan ko zaleel o Khawar kar dega?

it is about roles... not positions... usman's role as a keeper+batter is worth nothing atm... Comparable to haris only... Riz is not even in t20 talks so he is out

This is the exact problem you and the rest of the gang suffer from.

To once again expose your hypocrisy the case in point is that

Usman Khan avg 17 and strikes at 120 in international T20s yet you will support him because he has the best chance to displace the love of your life, Rizwan.

Watching Usman Khan trying to play a shot is alot like watching someone drag their nails against a chalkboard

Very painful and hard to watch.

Once a player has played fair bit of international cricket, then that should be the standard to judge him , Usman T20I SR is 121 , so stop the chest thumping , I remember how a certain bungee jumped when OBY was included in Pakistan team

This doesn’t apply on Babar and Rizwan for you. So save us the preaching!

You’ve seen what Babar and Rizwan can do after the vast amount of cricket you have seen them play and produce rubbish results due to which the team is dragged down to the pits of mediocrity to accommodate them.

Yet you all have strong opinions on the handful of games played by new players and youngsters!
