Younis Khan speaking on TV :-

"When we went to England in 2016, it was also being said that the Pakistan team was not that strong"

"We had 4-5 senior players (in 2016) and that is why we played that series so well"

"It is very important for any team, especially a Test team, that they have senior players in them"

"When teams go to Ireland/England in early summer months they all struggle"

"Pakistan's Test squad is looking very young and inexperienced and so I think they will struggle a lot there"

"There is a lot of bad luck with Fawad Alam"

"Fawad Alam scored a 100 on his Test debut for Pakistan which was amazing"

"He's done some amazing performances in first-class cricket and he should have been in this Test team especially at a time when Pakistan are in need of a senior player"

"There are a lot of batsmen who play with different techniques; in the past Mohammad Yousuf and Javed Miandad had different techniques too; so Test cricket is not about technique but about performances"

"Even people said about me that I had problems with my technique and I would not perform well in England"

"Seems to be a trend to promote (encourage) new players and to not promote (discourage) senior players"

"Misbah played cricket until he was 43-44 and he had top-quality performances in the last series he played"

"In my case, I played until 41 so age is just a number"

"Fawad Alam's fitness is good and his age isnt that high"

Question: If you were captain of the team, would Fawad Alam be in your team?

Answer "Absolutely he would have been"

"Fawad Alam has done some amazing performances in first-class cricket and he should have been in this Test squad"

"Ireland will be playing in home conditions and our team could struggle there, even though we are much better than them"

"They (captain, coach, Chief Selector) are all free in terms of making their decisions (on selection)"

"The important thing is that we should do what's the right thing, and not what we like"

I do not think any one would disagree that fawad has been hard done . He deserved at least 4 - 5 Test matches. Right now he will out score Babaar in this format.

As much as I love Misbah by him playing well beyond 40, every domestic player thinks this is possible. Which isn't the case . All teams try to promote new players .

Too bad you are retired YK ... I do wonder what could've been if YK remained captain from 2009 onwards ... after all it was him who promoted Fawad to open and gave him full confidence and he went onto score 168 on debut.

It will be good for Fawad’s reputation to never be selected again. People will always remember him that way.
He was very good and should have never been dropped after that debut ton against SL.

'seniors', 'seniors', 'seniors' .........

Did they not ask him about the NCA coaching/room thing?

The man has spoken, if anyone else needs any more convictions about Fawad's inclusion. Can read this statement. Fine you don't wanna believe a keyboard warrior like me, but you can believe what Younis has to say, who has been there and done that, is the highest run getter in Tests for the country.. Including a match winning double ton in his last test match in England

Telling you bacho technique is not important, if you can make runs you can play with any technique Bilal7

I hope that answers your question, and all us keyboard jihadis who apparently have some deep hate for Inzi and are out on a personal vendetta against him...

Lets just admit Inzi made a big mistake not selecting Fawad...

Officially he's still not 41, and retired at 39. :yk

:))) He doesn't even care about being discrete at this point.

I respect Younis Khan a lot and agreed, he's a legend and his word should be taken seriously. However, the guy sitting in the selectors' chair is not a lallu, panju either. Not only that, but the captain, coach and other selectors also agreed that Fawad is not better than the others selected in the squad.

We'll see what happens during the tour.

I believe him but a part of the reason why Fawad was dropped in the end of 2014 is because YK went out on the media clamouring for his inclusion into the side for world cup 2015. He effectively replaced Fawad from the side.

A similar thing happened in late 2010 before the 2011 world cup, YK should have been dropped but was kept on as a senior and instead Fawad made way.

It's up to the selectors to choose and it's fine for you wanting/believing you were good enough to play (even if you aren't), though I do blame YK for ranting in the media and using his status in the media to pressurise selectors which led to someone like Fawad missing out.

It's all very well good supporting his inclusion now, but some of his actions impacted Fawad in a negative way lol when YK was actively playing.

A similar story with Afridi, not as bad, but playing Fawad down in 7/8 in T20s. It's clear to see he has relatively little potential in T20 cricket, he's not a hitter, yet he's being played down at 7/8 where's he's expected to hit. Afridi might have meant well, but again giving him chances he's not suited for and letting him repeatedly fail is not good when you're giving him very few chances in the formats he's better suited for (even if he succeeds).

LOL @ YK .. where was your experience during several tests in AUS & SA?

Great player but talks 100% nonsense.

Except the captain didn't

a 170* not out in his final test match..

and 80 odd against Warne, Mcgrath, Lee was a very good knock indeed.

If I were captain.... I would only select juniors because the last time the entire team decided they did not want me as captain.

YK knows what he is talking about. He was the only batsman to keep up with Fawad in the latter's debut knock. Which was indeed splendid.

Facing down Herath, Fawad outshone Youhana, and ultimately YK as well, one of the world's best players of spin.

You can only know so much about a player by watching them bat. And Inzi should know this. lallu or not, he's not shown himself to be a wise selector in this regard.

The quintessence of wisdom is to know what you cannot know.

Oh my God! Select Fawad Alam, either he will perform and win us a match or atleast everyone will stop crying over his non selection.. Win Win situation

Alam also has some of the best List A stats in the country. Remind me how well that translated vs Australia in the UAE or against Bangladesh?

Was Fawad in the team when he was captain? I only remember a few times in the World T20 under his captaincy? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Fawad played 2 of his 3 matches matches under Younis's captaincy.. Fawad's last test was the first test played by Pakistan after the removal of Younis.

This was the best time to select Fawad Alam: Younis Khan

Former Test batsman Younis Khan on Sunday said, "The decision to not select Fawad Alam [for the England-Ireland tour] was unfair; he should have been given a chance," DawnNewsTV reported.

Referring to a point in the squad's history when senior players used to dominate the side and there was no room for junior cricketers to be appointed in their presence, he pointed out that now many players have retired and "this was the best time to select him [Fawad]".

Younis said he has played with chief selector Inzamamul Haq on many occasions, and if he were to speak to him on this matter then it would only create discord between them.

"Imamul Haq has a chance; he should perform well and prove himself," he said referring to the chief selector's nephew who is part of the 16-member team chosen for the tour.

Speaking of Fawad Alam, he said the player is in "good form and would have performed well during the tour".

"In the end, it would have been beneficial for the Pakistani side; Fawad Alam is [after-all] a Pakistani cricketer," he added regretfully.
