As simple as that - we have to set a single standard, but, it's not really followed.

Sharjeel, every Tom, Dekock and Harry knows, is the opposite of what you call fit. How come he got the preferential treatment in the Australia tour?

If he's cleared, with his kind of body fat, poor fielding and fitness issues, will Mickey Arthur make the tough call?

I'm okay with keeping Umar out too as long as he remains unfit. Like Arthur said, he's a wonderful bat - but needs to stay fit to maximize his performance.

It's about progress.

Did he progress from the first fitness test under Mickey Arthur? They set "markers" to see if a person is putting in the time to improve his numbers.

Not everyone is going to start with supreme fitness levels but progress is mandatory whether it's small or large.

Umar Akmal has shown he's regressed. This is unacceptable considering he was already below par and kicked out for this reason.

Don't understand why some folks try to conflate the issue and are dishonest.

Umar Akmal doesn't make the team on performance. He could be the fittest guy in the world but if his performances are same as last couple of years he doesn't make the team on merit

Some fans of his want to put forward the narrative that he is not making the team due to policies of the team management whereas the truth is that just on performance alone he should be nowhere near the team

good point, but I think theirs more to fitness than what meets the eye

Sharjeel may very well be a fitter than UAkmal

If he passes the fitness than he is fit. You can't determine someone's complete fitness level just by looking at them.

Sharjeel was improving his fitness series by series. If you look at his pictures when he first came on the scene and his pictures from the AUS series there is a marked improvement.

Same cannot be said of Akmal.

But I understand why OP bhai made this thread. He still can't get over the fact that "aggressive and explosive" Akmal has been dumped.

Loll. Why would I not want my favorite batsman selected i.e. Sharjeel? Just cuz another batsman who can be good is dropped?!

Logic...

It's either about fitness or not. Umar isn't fit so won't be selected.

Sharjeel was clearly not fit, and after this break if he comes back he won't be in any good shape either.

We have many times in the past let the talented or in form batsmen play even if they were not fit.

Of course it comes to the fitness test. If he passes he'll bel selected.

Let's hope he is not being explosive and aggressive on the dinner sheet at iftar time

!st off, he's passed the fitness tests (at least we can assume as nobody has said he has failed), as some other posters said, he could be making progress and at the end of the day, some leeway can be given to someone if they perform. Umar hasn't.

His fitness improved series on series just like his batting. If he is cleared of fixing he should be brought back into the side asap.

I doubt that Sharjeel has been doing any fitness training for the last 3-4 months given the spot fixing scandal. Should he actually get cleared on merit where he is actually innocent, he will need at-least 3-4 months of dieting, training to get back into shape and then will need some domestic performances to get a recall.

The other thing is that we may have to deal with the ICC who will investigate whether the whole thing was a facade by the PCB to try to secretly get the players cleared.

Main thing is his evaluation on the fitness test. As long as all players are tested on uniform parameters and not given any preferential treatment that is the main thing. Doesn't matter whether it is Sharjeel or anyone Mickey should decide these are the minimum requirements and are to it only those are picked who reach that level

Fitness is important but not everything. Based on the argue of fitness even a 60 year old person can play cricket.
The different between Sharjeel and Umar is massive. Sharjeel is an attacking batsman and score every often while Umar performs once in a blue moon (A certified TTF)

may be they are talking about his mental fitness. / and we all know UA mental fitness level /

Is there any possibility of spot fixing verdict any time soon? If yes and proven innocent I will take him over in place of Azhar or Shehzad

this, Sharjeel was improving on and off field, umar was sliding the other direction

If he fails the fitness test then yes, keep him out too. If he passes it then I don't care how many kebabs he eats at night or what his body-fat % is. He deserves to be selected...

... Only if he's cleared of any wrongdoing.

He is an atrocious liability on the field, with catching, one of the most frustrating things about him. We need his batting. But he sucks at everything else. Needs to get fit. He looks like a potato.
