What's new

If you lose toss in the ICC T20 World Cup Semi-Finals and are put in to bat first, how will you win?

Stat: The only team that won in Dubai bowling 2nd was NZ beating Scotland by 16 runs in this T20 WC so far. No team has defended their score in Dubai. Win the toss, take the game deep and win the game.

The OP was fully correct, people are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think 170 is a 'winning score' lol.

It's not just the dew factor, as this has not been too problematic this time around. The team batting second can plan accordingly to chase a middling total.

No matter how good your bowling attack, the batters can smash any bowler as we saw with the Kiwis and Aussies. Even with wickets down, Australia always seemed ahead.

A team like Pakistan which has buffet bowlers (bowling attack is well overrated) needs to get into the green zone, 195+ to give themselves a chance against gun T20 sides.

Let's be honest if the catch had been taken Pakistan would have won but it is what it is :)

Nah man, definitely not a certainty, Aus won with an over to spare and wickets in hand.

Pakistan did everything they possibly could have while batting first. They played a high percentage of attacking strokes - highest for any team in the tournament .

176 can be defended. It's the highest ever score that was chased at Dubai involving non minnows and the wnd highest chase ever.

If Pakistan looked to attack more, it could have easily backfired as well.

The bowling needs to be spot on though while defending such a total and it wasnt.

You are contradicting yourself. If margin of errors is small while defending a score of 170 then that means score is not big enough and you need a buffer of another 20 runs to defend successfully

Look at the finals now. Both teams are aware of this fact now and there is going to be fireworks by team batting first..

No I'm not. I'm saying that the margin of error will be small and the team bowling and have to be spot on in their execution.
However , that doesnt mean you can compensate by trying to score 195 instead. That would require a very risky approach and would likely result in gifting wickets to opposition and resulting in even lower scores.

So, there are only 2 ways Pakistan could have won the other night- 1. Win the toss or 2. Play a veteran bowler/fielder than Hasan.

Theres hardly anything Pakistan could have done better while batting first.

Scoring 70 in 10 overs was something that they could have done better. after power play they scored 30 runs in 5 overs something like that.
I think they still did not believe the abilities in their middle and lower order. So I am sorry not a champion team

Ofcourse t20 is a game of risk and if you are being conservative even though you know par score is high, then you are going to come second. May be an extraordinary fielding effort, lucky run-outs might get you an unexpected win but you can't plan for that.

Which champion team so far in this WC has made anywhere close to 176? It was a good total, just not good enough in the field to defend it. When you drop catches and miss three run outs, you don’t deserve to win. Simple as that.

Australia dropped babar ,Rizwan and Fakhar catch also and Warner given wrongly out so these things can't be excuses .

Speaks volumes of your cricketing intelligence when you equate those chances to the crucial moment where Hasan dropped Wade.

You don’t see me harping on about our three blatant missed run outs, do you? Those chances were important, but NOT at a crucial juncture of the game which completely shifts momentum.

Lol if babar and Rizwan were out in poweplay then Pakistan don't even have score 150 . If Warner was not out then those run put chance would have not came as warner himself playing .my cricketing knowledge is more than your .try again with someone else

I think you need to go watch the match again buddy. Maybe you’ll understand what context is when it comes to cricket games. Equating Hasan’s drop catch to any of the other chances is what someone will do if all they have done is read the commentary on Cricinfo.

Refreshing to see you try to analyse a game tho, rather than cry about the toss 24/7 like you have been doing on this forum for the last few weeks :))

Lol you need to read first how cricket played .every thing depends what Happened before .if Warner was not out then how those run out chance came because Warner still batting at that time .same applied for Rizwan ,Babar and Zaman dropped catches.

The three missed run out chances includes one run out chance for Warner btw :yk

Proven yet again, if you don't post close to 200, you don't stand a chance.

Pakistan NEVER realized, never planned for it, never tried, never got it.
And it looks like NZ didn't work hard enough either during the powerplay in the finals.

Chasing these 170ish and 180ish is a joke in UAE under the lights.

Disagree the right handers would have been on a strike and if am correct it would be something like 20 of 9.

Pakistan had a decision not go thier way.
And they dropped a catch.
And also run out chances.
