There is no doubt that COVID-19 has caught many of us off-guards. Most people were not prepared for this type of pandemic and hopefully people have learned their lessons and will be prepared better next time.

If I survive COVID-19, I want to store these things for next potential pandemic/disaster:

- 50 N95 masks.
- 10 LifeStraw water filters.
- Disposable gloves.
- 30 hand sanitizers.
- Hand wash soaps (x30).
- 100 rolls of toilet papers.
- 3 months supplies of non-perishable foods.
- Ropes, military knives, candles, and matchsticks.
- Batteries and at least 2 flashlights.
- Safety goggles.
- Radio.
- Compass.
- 6 months supplies of toothpaste, shampoo, body lotion, and shower gel.
- First aid kit and essential medicines (cough syrup, Tylenol etc.).
- Survival books and other books.

How will you hope to prepare for next potential disaster?

Also, it is very important to have a good diet and good fitness level.

I hope COVID-19 will motivate people to stay fit.

Seeing this thread reminds me of all those nutcases who Hollywood used to make fun of in their shows and movies that were all prepared for emergency.. everyone made fun of them and lol now.

On the thread: Nothing really with storing, But I would wanna learn more handyman skills esp with relation to automobile and fixing electrical stuff at home.

I can fix mechanical things but electric ,automobile and pure plumbing i want to get into.

Cooking and stuff has never been an issue but i wud wanna go from scratch on that as well, like using mortar and pestle

I know what you are saying. But, this is about preparing for any disaster (not just pandemic).

We are living in a very uncertain period of time and it is better to be prepared for both natural disasters and man-made disasters.

Forgot to add gas masks. Gas mask is a must in case a biological attack takes place.

this world is unpredictable.
you never know what's coming next. some countries claimed they are the super power and have all the technologies yet still struggling to create medicine for the smallest thing in the world. yet having all the technologies we failed.
no one can challenge all mighty. We just need to repent nothing else we can do.

Health, health and health!

I’ve spent much of the last few years having my bloods done and optimising hormones etc. For no reason other than getting healthy and being a bit geeky.

Death comes to us all however I’m convinced that in the UK, those from minority backgrounds have had a disproportionate amount of deaths due to chronic health conditions and lifestyle choices.

Strengthen immune system, get the vitamin D and C in, eat fish and more greens and exercise more should be an outcome.

Maybe a house with a big garden will also help some people if another pandemic comes our way!

Hopefully there will not be another - this time we are 'lucky' as people are recovering - the next version could wipe out humanity.

I think more disasters in the future are likely. People just don't learn. Better to be prepared.

I should have probably saved more. Usually I keep enough money in bank to cover my expenses for 6 months but this time I overspent. Either way still have enough money for 2 months and by that time everything should start going back to normal.

I have learnt that it is important to have around £20000 in the bank account so I can sustain my family and myself for 6 months without worrying. Issue is when you live pay cheque to pay cheque, having 20ks surplus is only a dream.

Underrated post. Everyone likes to make fun of "preppers" but yeah the truth is we are only 72 hours away from a total disaster!

Check out this app called: Offline Survival Manual by publisher "ligi". It is interesting.

1)Will check on how and why i got this infection so that I can prevent that happening next time.

2)Exercise more. Need to make my heart and lungs fit to survive another infection.

3)Control sugar and eat more veggies and fruits to get all the necessary vitamins and minerals for building immunity.

4)Rest is all upon God.

I’m mulling investing all I have, which isn’t much, into non-cash assets. I have a good bit of equity in the house, but I’m considering buying gold with what cash I’ve got.

The question is, once I’ve got the gold, do I need to bury it somewhere, and draw up some sort of map so my descendants can dig it up if I pass away, or can I place it in a bank vault? What if the bank goes bankrupt, or looted when the mobs run riot? I’ve never owned gold in bulk, so I’m not even sure if it needs to be in bricks or coins aka Ashrafis.

Your more then welcome to store your gold with me :P

I agree with you here.

I am unlikely to keep my savings as fiat currencies. I don't trust fiat currencies.

Gold seems like a safe investment. It always has demands.

That still doesn’t answer my questions. Once I have a brick of gold, where do I keep it? Also is a brick better than Ashrafis or vice versa? A brick sounds like it’s more compact, but an Ashrafi would be easier to trade for cash in a pinch. Having to chisel away a sliver of the brick to trade would ruin its aesthetics.

Also if you have Ashrafis, you can dive into them like Scrooge McDuck, and toss them in the air to “make it rain.” You can’t do that with a brick.

My mind after reading this “life is like a hurricane... Duck Tales..Duck Tales...”:D

Where you gonna buy gold at this time. Online?

I bought like $12k worth of gold last year from Indian Jewelry store but I don't think they're open these days lol

I haven’t thought that far ahead. I don’t patronize Indian businesses anyhow, but there must be other places that sell gold bricks.

Where will you keep it? I need to know before I consent.

I can store it in the shelter I have built in my garden. It is twenty feet deep with epoxy hardened concrete walls a couple feet thick. I can share other specs and talk about costs if you let me know how much gold we are talking about.

I haven’t even bought the gold yet, and already you guys are volunteering to hold it for me. I’m sure it’s because of the goodness of your hearts. I’m truly blessed.

This is assuming the next one will be a SARS attack. It may not be one.

Of course, what other reason could there possibly be. As you pointed out in your first post, the evil but flimsy capitalist system might be the first to go in such a situation. Would do everything to help a brother in such testing times.

Regarding the gold, i have some handy and would be willing to enter into a deal to sell it to you in the future, if such a situation occurs. For a very small fee of course - you know how difficult things are right now. Would be even easier for you as you wouldn't even have to send it to me if things go south.

If we survive Covid19?

You’re still more likely to die of many other things than it.

That's okay, the next Year of the Bat isn't for a while yet.

ok, suit yourself.
But don't expect a discount if some Chinese baray hakeem sahab's pangolin pulao recipe brings about the end of times.
