Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy-winning side’s member Imad Wasim has become the number-one ranked T20I bowler after South Africa’s Imran Tahir lost ground following the conclusion of the series against England.

In the latest MRF Tyres ICC T20I Player Rankings for T20I Bowlers, which was updated a day after England beat South Africa 2-1, Tahir has slipped two places after he managed only one wicket in two matches.

His drop to third means Imad has surged to the top for the first time in his career, with India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah rising to second.

In the other major movements in the bowlers’ table, South Africa’s Chris Morris has vaulted 32 places to 29th, while England’s Liam Plunkett has jumped 26 places to 38th.

In the batting table, India’s Virat Kohli, Aaron Finch of Australia and Kane Williamson of New Zealand have retained the top three positions. However, AB de Villiers and Jason Roy are the biggest movers following the just-concluded series.

De Villiers, who was the leading run-getter in the series with 146 runs, has returned to the top 20 in 20thposition after rising 12 places, while Roy’s series aggregate of 103 runs has helped him achieve a career-high 25th position after jumping 26 places.

There is no change in the top three of the all-rounders’ table which is headed by Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh, who is followed by Glenn Maxwell of Australia and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi.

Meanwhile, in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Team Rankings, England has moved into outright second position. It had started the series level with Pakistan on 121 points, but has now moved to 123 points to trail number-one ranked New Zealand by two points.

In contrast, South Africa has dropped one point to join Australia on 110 points. However, it is ranked ahead of Australia by a fraction of a point, and occupies the sixth position.

Congratulations to Imad a fantastic utility cricketer for Pakistan who is delivering with regards to his clearly defined role which is to get some handy runs down the order and contain when he is given a bowl; his economy by the standards of modern cricket is fantastic and he will long enjoy the support of management and his team. He had a good CT and will hopefully continue to deliver in all the limited forms.

Still don't understand the way Imad bowls and why sometimes it's effective and sometimes easily found out but congratulations to him.

Thats surprising. When did last Imad win us a match through bowling?

Tahir was consistent wicket taker for South Africa, something Imad has never been

very surprising, but i consider his utility as hafeez, while hafeez can chuck he doesnt

kudos to him for ranking

Congrats Maddy!!! Deserves it, what a fantastic cricketer he has been for pakistan, scores runs when needed, is not primarily a wicket taker but contains the opposition fantastically which leads pressure being built on the batsman, it was clearly seen on Joe root in CT semi final

WOW. Congrats Imad. Damn pretty good bowler and a decent hitter coming in at No.7-8.

T20 rankings are strange - not enough of the matches are played so the movement in rankings is big whenever one loss or win happens

Ranking system is so flawed. He is Pakistan #6/7 bowler, means should not be in the team but some how world no 1 🙄🙄

ICC need to seriously overhaul ranking of all kinds.

To be honest, he's been absolutely beastly in T20s. What MIG said is true though, in that there are not enough T20s played. He just needs to continue doing what he's doing and retain his form for WT20 next year. That tournament should be Pakistan's next target!

Look at that top ten. Mostly spinners. And the pacers in it and not express pacers but those that are clever death bowlers with various change ups (Fizz, Faulkner and don't underrate Bumrah). Goes to show you the modern bowler needed nowadays. Won't surprise me one bit to see Hasan Ali in that list soon.

That's weird with him becoming number one. Hardly takes any wickets.

I don't think there is a WT20 next year. I think they made it a four year thing now. The next one is slated to be in 2020 in Australia.

Imad ran riots through the Windies in two consecutive series who if I'm not mistaken were number two in the rankings before crossing paths with Pakistan. Surely that must be a massive factor in propelling him to the top of the rankings.

Yes but there is some tournament next year. I have a feeling I read about it somewhere.

What a bore fest, would make the WI Test series look entertaining to watch.

At least it's not 8 hours long per day. Our players would increase their stats. Run fest and bowling demolition, isn't fun to you?
If we try out some unknown entities then maybe, but otherwise watching a bunch of hacks slogging, is far from fun.

To each to their own. Some people like 5 day tin Spectra foils English first class cricket games, while others just like limited overs Pakistan matches. We have our own styles.

Very important performance today.

4 overs for 22 runs on a very flat pitch.

Decent performance, although I worry he is just becoming a containing bowler. Needs to pick up a wicket or two tomorrow.

Very economical figures yesterday. He builds pressure from one end with his low economy leading to wickets from the other end hence I am not fussed about his lack of wickets. Also, his cameo yesterday proved to be very important in the end
