Imad Wasim vs Shadab Khan - Who is the better batsman?

This is strictly related to batting as I see more and more people of the opinion that shadab is better. However, I have always rated imad as the better one. I have seen lots of passion from supporters of both but no concrete reasoning. Anyone?
 
Imad is better. Shadab is a just a glorified tail-ender. He is not a good hitter in the death overs and he cannot do much up the order as well.

Imad is a good hitter and keeps a cool head under pressure. He is the best finisher in Pakistan these days.

Shadab looks good in PSL up the order because the standard of bowling is very poor.
 
Don't think either are that good to be honest.
 
No contest. Imad is not only a better batsman but also a better bowler and a smarter player.

definitely Imad
 
Both warrant a place in the T20 and ODI side.

If he works hard at his batting Shadab has it in him to bat number 6, maybe even number 5, in tests
 
Imad should actually be Pakistan's captain in T20Is and ODIs. Babar is not captaincy material.
 
If you are looking lower order positions , Imad is better , because he is capable of hitting some lusty blows towards the end.
 
Shadab was more steady while Imad was a better hitter (though not a natural big hitter - just bludgeons the ball hard down the grown and through cover).

However Shadab really improved his batting in the last PSL, remaining reliable while upping his strike rate and big shots. But he has been injured since so hasn’t proved it at the international level yet.

I think Shadabs temperament will help him to become a better overall batsman soon.
 
No contest Shadab, and he is also better captain than Imad and much better bowler too.
 
Cannot think of a single impactful white ball knock from Shadab Khan in international cricket.

The darter Imad wins this contest easily. And with one of Qadir or Zahid locking down a spin spot - only one of these two can return to the white ball sides.

Babar has not been bad at all, its not easy being the captain in all three format and the best batsman of an average batting team. He will get better the more experiences he gets.Some posters criticises him because of Dr's reviews, likes of Kohli still gets them wrong even after so much experience.

Not going too far the first T20 against England, he has been batting mainly few overs toward the end. His T20 batting has only really improved past year and half, and he has not played much since he has become good at striking. It's like Fahim, he was useless as well and only now started to get better in limited over cricket batting.
 
Imad no doubt but neither of them are more than a number 7.

They are not million miles apart in terms of batting capabilities. Imad has always kept calm under pressure and hence has the edge.
 
Don’t understand the comparisons here. Imad is obviously better at this point. But Imad is also 32 years old and Shadab is 22.

Imad won’t be remembered in 15 years. Very unlikely. Shadab has a long, long career ahead of him, even if his batting ability isn’t as good.

What about rescuing us from the throes of a collapse against New Zealand in the 1st T20 just a month ago? That too as captain.

Most of his opportunities to bat in international cricket have been at 7-8. So you obviously won’t find much impact at those numbers.
 
Imad has a lot more natural ability and should really have been promoted in the battimg order a couple of years ago.
Right now he is better than all of the dross we have played in the name of middle order batsmen.
Shadab cant hit at the end but is still way better in the middle overs than the chachas and happyhearts we have tried.
 
Imad right now. But I think Shadab has a higher ceiling as a batsman. If he can bat well again in this PSL, I think he'll be able to convert that into international runs as well, sooner rather than later. Shadab has time on his side.

Shadab has a long career ahead of him? Really? He is mediocre and getting even worse. I see him getting dropped and forgotten in 2-3 years.
 
People forget that Shadab is a whole 10 years, a decade younger than Imad. Shadab has a higher ceiling, and has shown glimpses of his talent with the bat in domestic cricket and in the PSL up the order for ISLU. Shadab for me.

Lot's of options and it is a good problem for Pakistan to have.

Well that’s news to me. This alone styles this for me then.

But reality is that apart from batting both are not good enough bowlers. Our recipe for success has always been effective and miser spin in t20s. Hafeez, afridi, malik, Ajmal choking opposition with spin was what worked for us.

Shadab Khan has a Test batting average of 33.33. He’s got 3 fifties in 9 completed Test innings, plus a 47 not out away v South Africa and a match-turning 45 at Old Trafford v England.

After Babar and Rizwan he’s the next best Pakistani Test batsman currently.
 
Shadab was a teenager when he made his Test debut.

If you stick to Shadab’s last five Tests (out of six)

Batting average 40.42
Bowling average 28.30
 
Faheem Ashraf’s last five Tests:

Batting average 46.50
Bowling average 35.00

Test batting is not being discussed as Imad doesn’t play tests. However, interesting numbers by shadab with recent test performances though still sample size is very short. Also a case can be made that he still has to prove his worth against better opponents.
 
Imad. Knows his limitations and works under them and is pretty successful at that. Strikes cleanly straight down the ground between midoff an midon, something other players in our team can't or don't do.

Shadab is our best fielder, and had a bad patch of bowling form in 2019 before he got it back on track in PSL 5 (where he was statistically according to cricinfo and cricviz the MVP of the tournament with both bat and ball) and the England tour (twin strikes to demolish England in the middle, with almost a third). He then ran into groin injuries which have kept him out of the side against Zimbabwe and South Africa with only a few games against NZ in between where he did okay.

So I don’t see anything to suggest he’s been getting worse. After a bad patch of form, he got himself back on track and I’m now waiting to see whether he’s recovered from injury adequately in PSL 6. I have suspicions that Shadab will do well once more, but let’s see.

If you put a gun to my head and asked me how long I think his career will be, I would say 10+ years, unless someone like Mubasir Khan develops nicely.

He is a proven match winner and best opening bowler with wicket taking ability.
What has he done wrong to receive this treatment?
On the other end shadab is getting phainta since '17 CT not to forget 4 sixes of sharjeel .
He is pathetic with fake attitude like shehzad.
Don't even get me started on his batting.

How is shadab getting selected, despite getting whacked around and leaking runs?

Beyond belief.
 
Dropping Imad was a fair call to be honest. As good as he is, he has limitations. He doesn't spin the ball, he darts it around and is only effective with the new ball. Meanwhile, someone like Nawaz can bowl both in the powerplay and in the middle overs.

Shabab's competition isn't Imad right now, it's Usman Qadir. As VC, Shadab will be there on the playing XI before Qadir, so this SA series will be big for his bowling. If he takes wickets, he will remove the questions about his position.

In terms of batting, Shadab plays proper cricketing shots when he gets set. That is why he has been successful in test cricket and have some half centuries in ODIs as well. If he gets time to get settled, he will be successful in T20s too as we have seen in New Zealand T20s and PSL5.

Imad tries to play unorthodox shots all the time. In CT17 final, Pakistan could have scored more than 350 runs if Imad was not trying to reverse sweep every other ball and failed at that. He is good against spinners but not so good against fast bowlers. The lower order batsmen should be specially good against fast bowlers because they bowl the last overs.

Overall, I'd say that Shadab is potentially better batsman than Imad.

Imad is one of the most gun t20 players in the world. He has an astonishing bowling record for a guy who often gets used in the powerplay. Imad gets into the team on bowling alone and yet he bats too.

He must have really rubbed someone up the wrong way to be dropped in a WC year. I can't believe it personally.

He showed his match winning abilities in the psl by bowling 1 over per game and some games 0 over per games

The difference is shadab puts himself foward and imad hides in a corner
 
Righly so that imad is dropped after his poor performances with both bat and ball in the psl.
 
Imad a very good T20 players, particularly in international matches, Shadab will be a liability, captain will have hard time using him, he is not a reliable bowler or batsman .

Imad Wasim doesn't play Test cricket.

The discussions are around white-ball cricket as far as I can see.

Having said that Shadab has shown that he has more capability with the bat.

Imad still has the edge as a finished article, but Shadab is developing into a decent lower order bat.

In 2-3 years Shadab will be better than Imad. Shadab also has the advantage of playing more test cricket improving his allround batting skills.
 
Shadab shouldn't be ahead of Imad in T20's, that's for sure!

Shadab can't hit the ball and looks horrible just trying to hit it.
 
I would defonitely pick shadab as he can build an innings and hit a few at the end.maybe as a pure finisher id say imad
 
If only we could combine a player with the batting of Hafeez, the bowling of Imad and the fielding of Shadab :)
