Imam-ul-Haq as a keeper could give Pakistan some options

Interesting to see Haq doing some glove work. With a shortage of good wicket keeping options in Pakistan, he could open up some possibilities in terms of playing an extra bowler or batsman.

I dont like Rizwan the batsman in T20is but no way does Pakistan deserve Imam ul Haq as a keeper batsman in T20s.

In ODI's, fair enough. But as long as it doesnt affect his batting and he starts sulking about not being able to concentrate on getting to his milestones

One game. Just one game he's kept and now where discussing him as a WK in T20.

Does not run to get to the wickets when runs are being pinched so he is not used t being a Keeper. Wait to watch his keeping when spinners arrive

Not a viable option in t20s, way too slow.
Very seldom do you get a wicketkeeper opener in Tests cause of the workload.
Only in ODIs can he give us an option if he does learn keeping well.
So not really.

Theres a reason why keepers are a specialists

You cant just have anybody behind the batters It could be the difference between winning and losing

We saw the effect team it had on team morale and potential wins that turned into losses when kami was playing as a goalkeeper for pakistan

He can be a latham...in white ball cricket u get away with part time he us perfect plus an opener

Yeah, I don't particularly rate Rizwan or Sarfraz in terms of their batting but Haq provides Pakistan with some flexibility with the gloves on.

We need more games to judge him. If he improves and is consistent, there is no reason why he can't keep in LO.

He should be in the Pakistan T20 team

Part time keepers can be picked in this format. We have been playing KL Rahul as WKB in the limited formats for last few series.

Azam Khan, Zeeshan Ashraf, and even Kamran Akmal are all better options for our T20 team. I am a fan of Imam the low-SR high-average ODI opener but not a fan of Imam the low-SR T20 batsman.

I think Imam if he improves his keeping can provide depth in our ODI squad. That’s about where it ends. Not good enough as a keeper for Test cricket and not good enough as a batsman for T20 cricket.

We already can pick so many other different keepers who are actual wicket keepers

However what's good about this is that if some of the keepers get injured during a tour or a tourney he can play keeper as a last minute option because he wasn't too bad

But to make him become a keeper no that going backwards it's a spit in the face of all the wicket keepers who are trying to find a place in the squad

Imam just focus on his batting

I was wondering how long until a thread like this was made. Reminds of the fascination of some PPers use to have of umar Akmal keeping in T20s to supposedly free space in the side.

Lost the game because of him because he forgot to appeal caught behind for Hafeez when there was a clear edge...

Imam's batting in modern day cricket is an issue itself. Besides you got Rizwan in Tests and ODI's where he has a decent domestic record. So Rizwan should be able to replicate those performances in these formats.

Imam could have been handy in T20's, but his slow batting is a concern itself in the format and we already have so many accumulators.

Seems to be an OK keeper in a pinch in case of emergency, but we need to see more of him behind the stumps before we even think about him as a long-term keeping option

Kamran > Imam with the gloves
Kamran > Imam with the bat in t20

Thanks for just arguing for Kamran to open in the next World T20.

Almost any part-time keeper can do an OK job in a one-off T20.

However, there’s a reason why wicket-keeping requires specialists.

The lad did ok given the circumstances but I wouldn't want him keeping in an international match unless he works on his keeping.

Needs to work on his batting for T20s aswell we dont need an accumalator in team at top of the order, babar does that job.

technically no where near a keeper so a big no from me

Nothing wrong in expanding your skill set and bring more to the table when selectors look at you.

He is not crippled or something.
Consult a good wicket keeping coach and practice to learn, and become good at it.

And if he does that, he will easily step over the parchi tag and justify his selection in the playing squad of the national team.

He was ok, but there is no point investing in him as an WK. He hasn't had a history of keeping, so he would need to develop a whole new skill. Lets not forget his inexperience meant that he didn't pick up the Hafeez edge. Makeshift keepers can work in T20, but they would be a liablity in the longer formats. Regardless of his his keeping, Imam is not good enough in T20's to even consider as an batsman.

Resisting towards developing a new skill set is an absolute classical trait of Pakistani cricket culture.

Harris Rauf won’t care to improve his fielding, Shaheen Shah or Naseem Shah or Abbas or Hasnain won’t have any real interest in practicing and getting good at hitting big in the lower order. They will continue to cherish to bat in a style that makes them look like as if they are playing cricket reserved for the mentally challenged. There is just no vision and no will to look into it and learn it.

On the other hand, Sangakarra steps up and becomes one of the legendary batsman from a full time specialist keeper, Steve Smith becomes a top class champion batsman from a specialist spin bowler. Many at times, when the top order fails, Australian pace bowlers step up and play great batting innings in the lower order.

But many of them Pak players are a different breed, right? Harris Sohail and Sharjeel Khan and Azam Khan have no real interest in losing weight because they are good with the bat - so there is no need, right?
This shahana mizaaji is awesome, isn’t it? :)

And no, “WE”‘ don’t have to invest in Imam. This is something he has to have a will and do it on his own. Only then it works. No point in taking the horse to water if it doesn’t want to drink.

Indian batting coaches don’t tell Kohli to have an extreme fitness routine and watch his food intake - he does it on his own to stay on top and also to keep on improving.
And that’s EXACTLY the mindset we severely lack. Our players act like a herd of sheep that continuously need a stick to be kept barely on course.

If we truly want to move forward and catch up with the other top teams then we MUST adapt to have a go getter attitude where are proactive rather than sluggish reactors.

The only reason I’d want to see him behind the stumps is to see what the stump mics pick up. I have a hunch it could be quite interesting at times :imam

He is a soft-spoken person. What much could he say then to motivate the players.
