Imam-ul-Haq "This team depends on me and Babar Azam"

I'm not a fan of Imam, but hard to disagree. There may be better players out there, but we aren't seeing them in a Pakistan shirt.

Sure Imam averaged 34 odd when he was selected.

But people fail to understand he averages 57 while playing Internationals.

Surely International performances>domestic performances?

Plus he was always one for the future since he was one of the top scorers during his Under 19 days.

Imam and Babar have their faults if you want to look at them, but when you have Sarfraz, Malik and Asif as your middle order, then carping about the top order seems to be missing the point.

Exactly.

There is much more pressure on Babar and Imam due to the incompetence of the rest.

The amount of hate a 23 years old guy who has done very well in international cricket until now, gets on this forum, is just mind blowing. Imam has scored runs everywhere against all oppositions in his short career and he should be the last person they should complain against.

Same goes for Babar. Both have their issues, but they are miles ahead of any other batting candidate simply because they bat according to the bowling and can judge when to play shots mostly. The rest are either dimwits or just technically deficient.
This. Though i would definitely place Babar higher than Imam.

Imam is not without his flaws, but he is so much better than the rest of the group of incompetents
we call our batting order.

Many poster need to calm down and start looking at the real issues rather than keep downplaying wonderful achivements of pakistan top order.

On a green pitch Imam whethered the strom of Starc and cummins now what else do you expect ?

He is absolutely correct un saying that he along with babar are the main stay of pakistan batting

Its sarfaraz, malik who are the real problem and asif must be rested

We know it very well how corruption nepotism unprofessionalism groupism etc has harmed pakistan cricket

But for god sake judje the player on his performance

Since SA tour I see remarkable improvement in him

first time in our history we have 3 batsman in top order who can reliably get us 120+ runs consistently but we still bash them because they are Kohlis. Be glad we don't have younis khan and butt and akmal here with the combined averae of 28 and sr of 82

Video would have been good of this quote from Imam to gauge the context and tone.

There is a difference between "Team depends on me and Babar" and "Team only depends on me and babar".
He said the former. So probably wanted to say that team expects a lot from us. When you read in isolation it sounds bad.

So far in the 3 innings Imam averages 33 with SR 69. Pretty pathetic I would say for modern day opener.

Imam has had a very good start vs SA, finding the middle of the bat and the gaps in the field regularly. Perhaps this opening partnership could finally flourish, and Babar could actually walk in with a solid platform to build on, not coming in the 4th over like usual.

Obviously was referring to the World Cup but does he have the ability to become the backbone for Pakistan in Tests?

Since the rise of Abid Ali and Shan Masood scoring more consistently, Imam is a second choice opener now. Sometimes that can break the confidence of a player. Lets see what Imam is made of and if he can remain focussed.

Surely he can be the no.3 in tests before that he shud get his chances at no.5 for now.

Imam babar haider rohail hurraira are the future going fwd. Misbah wont see that

An average of 33 with a SR of 69 is what we Pakistanis have been happy with since 1975. So i would say thats OK.

Thankfully Imam is far far away from making the Pakistan lineup. Waste of space in the squad for the England tour.

This guy has a lot of confidence or maybe arrogance for some if he believes we rely on him.
