Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan is addressing protesters who staged demonstrations in various cities of the country against rising inflation.

The PTI has also installed screens at major protest venues across the country to show his address, in which he is expected to make major announcements regarding the party’s future course of action against the incumbent government.

The former premier urged the people earlier this week to take to the streets on Sunday (today) to stage a “peaceful demonstration” against rising inflation, particularly the massive increase in the prices of petroleum products.

“I am inviting the entire nation for a peaceful protest against inflation on Sunday (June 19) at 9pm. I invite trade unions, professionals, doctors, engineers, clerks, and government workers to take to the streets,” the former prime minister had said in a recorded video message on Thursday.

Imran will address the protesters via video link at 10pm and the PTI has also installed screens at major protest venues across the country to show his address, in which he is expected to make major announcements regarding the party’s future course of action against the government.

PTI protesters started to gather at protest venues in different cities across the country.

Imran was ousted from power in April through a vote of no-confidence and since then he has been going places, building pressure on the coalition government to announce a date for the next elections as he called the current set-up “imposed from outside”.

Imran also accused the current government of being “incapable of handling the economy” and warned that prices would soar even higher in the days to come if the nation “kept sitting idly”.

After ending his much-hyped long march abruptly last month, Imran has been asking his supporters to prepare for the next long march towards Islamabad saying he will come with better planning this time around.

'Imran’s inflation protest is against his own flawed policies’

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz lashed out at former prime minister Imran Khan for holding protest against the incumbent government, blaming his previous regime’s “flawed policies” for runaway inflation.

In a tweet, she said, ‘Fitna [mischief] Khan’ had given protest call against inflation – for which he himself was responsible indeed.

She said the country is facing very serious challenges – mostly created by Imran Khan “who used to say that he did not come to power for fixing rates of potato and onions”.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran has said that the country’s economic and political situation will “deteriorate further” if early elections are not held and added that the coalition government led by the PML-N is “burying all institutions”.

“I will give you a call [for long march]… if free and transparent elections are not held further chaos will spread,” the ousted premier said while addressing the anti-inflation protest rallies via video link on Sunday.

Hop for his sake this one leads to something.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former premier Imran Khan has vowed that protests will be continued by his political party till the announcement of fresh elections, ARY News reported on Sunday.

Imran Khan, while addressing PTI’s nationwide protest against inflation via video link, said that national security and sovereignty will be compromised in return for seeking any kind of relaxation from the United States (US).

Imran Khan said that it is a national duty to raise voice against atrocities and injustice. Inflation has been massively increased by the present government that is affecting the poor people, he added.

He said that the present government that had organised an anti-inflation march during the PTI government has now massively hiked the diesel and petrol rates by Rs115 and Rs85 respectively.

He rejected the allegations levelled by the current rulers that the PTI government’s policies and agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were the reasons for the skyrocketing inflation.

Khan said that the PTI government had controlled the fuel prices despite being pressurised by the IMF and reduced the petrol rate by Rs10 per litre. The PTI government had launched the Sehat Insaf Card health insurance program despite signing the IMF agreement which is the largest welfare project of Pakistan besides launching the Ehsaas Ration Program for deserving families.

The former premier said that significant progress was made on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) action plan during the PTI government which led to Pakistan’s whitelisting. The then opposition leaders had sought NRO-II during FATF legislation and later they boycotted the relevant parliament’s session after the rejection of their illegal demands by the PTI government, he added.

Ex-PM Khan said that the US had decided to topple the PTI government through a conspiracy while Mir Jafer and Mir Sadiq of Pakistan contributed to the alleged foreign conspiracy.

He reiterated that he had warned ‘neutrals’ of destructive outcomes for the national economy in case of the foreign conspiracy’s success.

Imran Khan said that the current rulers have different motives to come into power as they are not serious about giving relief to the nationals but to dissolving their cases.

Regarding his Russia visit, Khan said that India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are purchasing cheap oil from Russia but the US slaves will not dare to purchase cheap oil from Moscow.

He said that Finance Minister Miftah Ismail had sought facilitation from the US. Shehbaz Sharif and Miftah Ismail should remember that Americans will not facilitate anyone without their own interests.

“If we are seeking any facilitation from the US, then there would be a compromise on the national security and sovereignty. India, US and Israel have the agenda to target Pakistan’s security.”

Imran Khan asked PTI workers to be prepared for his call as they want a date for fresh elections and protests will be continued till the announcement of the election date.

Two important questions:

1. How long will this last? In other words, when will Imran decide to run away and leave his supporters hanging who will be confused to the point that they won’t know to stay back or go home.

2. How many PTI supporters will Imran kill this time and for nothing?

Think you forgot to ask the most important question - What are they actually protesting for?

I am not that well versed with Pakistan politics but as far as I know Imran got ousted due to No Confidence motion. In any parliamentary democracy, a PM need to have majority in house to stay in power. Modi went through same voting in 2018 and few days ago Boris Johnson faced the same NCM. Imran didn't had the number and hence he is no longer the PM.

So I fail to understand what is his supporters protesting for and what exactly they want? Reject the NCM voting and appoint him back as PM again?

It's hard to believe that someone wouldn't know why PTI is protesting and what their demands are. You asked a very basic question.

Reason for protests - Inflation

Demands - Free and fair elections.

Obviously, there are more reasons for protest but this is the gist of it.

Thank you. As I said I am not much aware of Pakistan politics and was wondering what are these protests for.

Correction: the demand is to make the fake messiah PM again.

Fake messiah and cult-followers will not accept election results if he doesn’t win majority. An election will be considered free & fair only if fake messiah wins majority.

Highlights or quick recap of PDM's tenure so far:

1. Significant changes in NAB and accountability laws. My personal favorite amendment was that immediate families assets are not the elected person's assets and if any NAB officer starts any investigation he/she has 6 months to complete the investigation from start to finish and if it couldn't happen for whatever reason then the NAB officer will not only be penalised but also jailed for up to 5 years. Waah! We are back to Shahi family times I'm totally expecting Sharif home to be termed a "Sharif Qila" which will be tourist site for our children to come and don't rule out beheadings for any voice of reason raised in Sharif darbar.

2. Election reforms. Rather than reforms this is simply a steal (shameful). PDM has taken away electronic voting and has also done away with overseas Pakistani voting. Whilst both are wrong you got to have a massive facepalm moment here. For a country with a low turnout in elections i.e. 60% on its best day of that 60% votes casted its argued that 30% or more are ineligible votes declared due to incorrect stamping or other reasons. This is a significant number if 30% of the voices aren't even heard in elections on a technical dhandli ground. This would have been eradicated by electronic voting but ala how the royal family can compete on same level field if they do so they aren't royal anymore so to preserve their loyalty this has happened. PPP has simply turned from a significant party in Pakistan to represent the guy who waves hand held fan to keep royal family cool in darbar.

3. Inflation. Irony dies a slow painful death on this point. The cumulative oil price from Aug-18 till Mar-22 increased by Rs30 in PTI tenure. In the past month alone the price of fuel has increased by over Rs80. Talk about Shahbaz speed and you'll definitely find it in inflation across everything. The guy is a lost cause and is headlessly running around doing hospital visits, dam visits which does not make sense given the economic situation of the country. To put things in further perspective with every $1 weakening in forex the debt in Pakistan increases by Rs1bn. The $ has strengthened Rs25 over the past 100 days and counting, imagine the increased burden on national debt. Shahbaz speed is as lethal as they come.

4. Foreign visits. So Shahbaz speed was evident in foreign official visits as well from Saudi, UAE and Turkey Shabaz was certainly getting a lot of air miles and stamps on his diplomatic passport. PPP is so fond of foreign trips that they might truly become wanderers of Europe given their desire of exploring Europe. Coming back to Shahbaz his visits were full of enthusiasm and for some reason he convinced himself to the joke that once the head of these states see him in power they would not only shake his hand but when he would retrieve his hands after shaking he would find billions of dollars in his hand like when a valet parks your car and you tip his for driving your car back and forth from parking. But unfortunately Shahbaz turned out to be a sad valet driver after these trips with no tips to show for. Funnily its rumoured that China told Shahbaz that no need of his visit to China at this time, guess that would be considered a massive insult but not to Shahbaz, this guy has got skin so thick that no mere words can penetrate through him. To put that in perspective imagine you are a fraud who stole Rs16bn (very conservative figure) but even with this allegation which has now been finalised for an official charge the guy still has a smile on his face. The guy should be at Ted talks for showing inner belief at times when most mere humans would simply hang their head in shame. Speaking of hanging we are certainly seeing Shahbaz speed in body counts with people related to this case. I can count at least 4 dead so far including FIA director. Shahbaz speed works certainly across everywhere.

5. Uncle Sam and friends please get us back in your little group. This is loud and clear motto of this sorry group we call PDM. The desperation they are showing to be in good books of USA is simply pathetic. On most occasions we are seeing 2 statements coming for example Shahbaz would say at one point we want to be friends with India and want to trade with India after some shoving he would reiterate his statement saying we want Kashmir issue resolved. Similarly at one point on Israel we can see statements saying Pakistan should do what is in its best interest with regards to accepting Israel and after some more shoving later then statement iterates Pakistan will not accept Israel. PDM and Shahbaz are just confused as to who's leash they are on and it can get very complicated for them. When they say something in favour of Pakistan public US and friends pull leash on them and if they say something in favour of US then public pulls leash on them. This is the best example of slavery vs freedom we can find in modern world. Thanks to Shahbaz we can relive our slavery past once again and connect with our roots.

The post went on longer than I thought but there is simply so much content here to write upon. With PDM in power there would never be a dull moment. There would be shelling, attack on public, police brutality and what not but never a dull moment.

Let's have that discussion after the elections. It's hard to find a proud PDM supporter nowadays. They all look disappointed, I don't know what they expected from the likes of PMLN, PPP, etc.

A very informative reply by the usual suspect.

Imran Khan needs to rethink his strategy.

I get a feeling that folks are tiring of these marches every 2nd week especially since it leads to nothing.

Even on PP the jazba compared to the same time last month is just 10%.

So TLP that was supposedly pro religion and anti establishment has been exposed as nothing more than a Noora lackey, taking orders from Rani Buzdil. The plan was these thugs turn up to attack the PTI supporters because both were going to have their demos at the same time. To avoid any chance of conflict, IK moved his demo to Lahore. Well done Kaptaan for caring human life. TLP you munafiqs , all the talk about the love for our beloved Prophet( PBUH) was just an end to make money. Munafiqs everywhere

Army unwilling to allow rally at Islamabad's Parade Ground, alleges PTI

ISLAMABAD: After failing to get permission for its public meeting scheduled for the eve of Independence Day despite proposing three venues in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has decided to shift the event to Lahore.

“We have been told that the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has already applied for its public meeting at Parade Ground on Aug 13. However, we have reached the conclusion that the permission was conditional to the nod of the 111 Brigade that is not willing to allow us. Otherwise, we would have been allowed one of our proposed venues,” PTI Islamabad president Ali Awan said while talking to Dawn.

On Aug 6, the PTI’s political committee had announced plans to hold a power show in the federal capital on Aug 13, the eve of Independence Day. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by PTI chairman Imran Khan and attended by its senior leadership, including Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, Omar Ayub, Saifullah Niazi and others. Mr Khan had also stated that he would announce his party’s future strategy during the event, and that is why directions were issued to party leaders to ensure an “impressive” show of power.

Mr Awan said the PTI had sought permission from the district administration to hold its public meeting at the Parade Ground, but it was informed that the TLP had already applied for the venue.

Aug 13 power show moved to Lahore

“Then we requested [the administration] to shift the public meeting to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) objected to it and we were told that their curators were working there as a security team is expected to visit before the English team’s visit to the country,” he maintained.

“Then we started considering holding the public meeting at Liaquat Bagh, but were told that recently, plantation has been undertaken at the park and there will be very little space for the public meeting,” he added.

The PTI leader further said he reached the conclusion that it was not possible to get permission in the twin cities, as the nod of the army’s 111 Brigade was also required.

“Although we have been told that confirmation has not been given to the TLP yet, it is strange that the TLP can hold a public meeting at the Parade Ground, but not the PTI. So now we have decided to hold the public meeting at Hockey Ground, Lahore,” he announced.

He further said that former premier Imran Khan will address the Lahore gathering, which will be telecast across the country.

“The party chairman will announce a future strategy and we will hold a fireworks display and a flag-hoisting ceremony at midnight,” Mr Awan said.

ATA TARAR MOVES LHC AGAINST PTI’S PUBLIC GATHERING IN LAHORE

LAHORE: Special Assistant to Prime Minister Attaullah Tarar has moved Lahore High Court (LHC) against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) public gathering in Lahore, scheduled to take place on August 13, ARY News reported

According to details, Ata Tarar has filed a petition against PTI’s public gathering in Lahore’s National Hockey Stadium to celebrate 75 years of Pakistan.

The petitioner has cited Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as respondents. Ata Tarar, in his petition, argued that sports ground cannot be utilised for political rallies.

The petitioner alleged that the stadium’s astroturf was removed for the public gathering. “The removal and installation of astroturf will cost millions of rupees,” he claimed, urging the Lahore High Court (LHC) to stop PTI from holding rally in the stadium.

It was learned that the removal of astroturf was originally planned for March or April of this year, but faced delays due to the revised PC-1 of the project.

A day earlier, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday clarified that the AstroTurf at Lahore’s Hockey Ground, where the party will be holding a rally on August 13, was not being scrapped, rather it was being replaced with a new one.

PTI leader and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday said that ex-prime minister Imran Khan would reveal the way forward for his "Haqeeqi Azadi" [true freedom] movement at the party's rally in Lahore tonight.

Last week, the PTI announced to hold a "historic power show" in Lahore's Hockey Ground on the eve of Pakistan's 75th independence day, which will be celebrated tomorrow.

Imran will address the gathering, which will be telecast across the country. At midnight, a fireworks display and flag-hoisting ceremony will also be held.

Talking to media persons at the rally's venue today, Chaudhry said that the theme of the gathering today was "Haqeeqi Azadi".

"What is true freedom? It is believing that we won't bow down in front of anyone except God. This is Imran's goal and this is the theme of our rally."

He went on to say that the PTI chairman would reveal the future strategy of the party tonight as the "party has entered the final stages of our movement".

Under a well-conceived move to mobilise the masses, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday announced schedule of party chairman Imran Khan’s marathon nationwide public gatherings to be held in 17 major cities across the country.

According to the details released by PTI Central Media Department, Imran would address the “grand public meeting” in Rawalpindi on August 21. The PTI would hold another meeting in Haripur on August 24, which would be addressed by the former premier.

Moreover, PTI will hold massive public meetings in Sargodha and Gujarat on September 1 and September 2, respectively.

Imran Khan will also address public meetings in Bahawalpur on September 3, Faisalabad on September 4, Mardan on September 6, Bahawalnagar on September 7 in Multan and Sheikhupura on September 8 and September 9, respectively.

The party’s public meeting will be held in Gujranwala on September 10.

The party statement said Imran would also visit Balochistan and address a public meeting in Quetta on September 11.
