Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Sunday said that the police personnel who are part of the security detail outside Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan's Bani Gala residence will arrest the former prime minister "with great enthusiasm" once his bail ends.

On Twitter, the interior minister welcomed Imran Khan ahead of his expected return to Islamabad from Peshawar.

The PTI chief, who began his party's ‘Azadi March’ from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, returned to the province since it abruptly ended.

PTI mouthpieces like Shahbaz Gill have since claimed that the security that was being provided to the former premier had been pulled.

"As per the law, he is being provided security," Sanaullah said today. "Imran Niazi has been named in more than two dozen cases registered across the country under charges of rioting, sedition, spreading chaos and armed attacks on the federation," he tweeted.

The "same security" provided to Imran, he claimed, would arrest the PTI chairman with "great enthusiasm" as soon as his court bail expires.

"A person who spreads chaos in the country on a daily basis, who has complete disregard for moral and democratic values and who sometimes calls his opponents traitors and Yazidis... how can he be the head of a political party in a democratic society?" the minister went on, adding that this was the "moment of reflection" for the nation.

Imran was booked in a number of cases at multiple police stations across Islamabad over allegations of arson and vandalism a day after he ended his 'Haqeeqi Azadi March' on May 25.

Last week, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted the former premier pre-arrest bail till June 25 against surety bonds of Rs50,000. The PTI chairman was also instructed to appear before the Islamabad sessions court before June 25.

Security outside Bani Gala on 'high alert'

Meanwhile, in a tweet on June 3, PTI's Shahbaz Gill had alleged that the government had withdrawn Imran's security despite threat alerts. He claimed that Maryam Nawaz, who was a convict, was given PM-level security.

"These are just cheap tactics of the imported government," he added.

Subsequently, late Saturday night, the Islamabad Police said that in the view of Imran's expected arrival, security around Bani Gala has been strengthened and placed on high alert.

"However, until now Islamabad Police has not received any confirmed news of return from Imran Khan's team," the Islamabad police tweeted.

"Security Division has deployed dedicated security in Bani Gala. List of people in Bani Gala not provided yet to Police. Section 144 is imposed in Islamabad and any congregation is not allowed as per orders of District Magistrate," it further stated.

The police added that Imran would be provided complete security as per the law and "reciprocal cooperation is expected from Security teams of Imran Khan as well".

For someone who doesnt believe in Pakistan itself as you have expressed it many times, I have to admit I am very impressed by your love for our country.

Let the courts decide if he has or not violated anything.

And I am sure you will find the same when The Sharifs and Chalees Chors are put in their places soon.

As members of the former PTI government confirmed Imran Khan's plans to return to Islamabad for a core committee meeting, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Sunday 'welcomed' him, saying the police personnel protecting the former prime minister would arrest him "with great enthusiasm" once his pre-arrest bail expires.

Former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed told Dawn.com that the former prime minister was planning to chair the core committee meeting at Bani Gala. Another aide, Shahbaz Gill told reporters outside Bani Gala that Imran was on his way and that the meeting would be held shortly.

Former information minister Fawad Chaudhry, said in a tweet that members of the core committee had begun arriving at Bani Gala.

The PTI chief had remained in Peshawar instead of his Bani Gala residence ever since he began his party's 'Haqeeqi Azadi March' on May 25, in which police clashed with party workers amid reports of sporadic violence. Imran returned to Peshawar since the march abruptly ended the following day.

The day the marchers disbanded, Imran and other top PTI leaders were booked in a number of cases at multiple police stations across Islamabad over allegations of arson and vandalism. He received pre-arrest bail until June 25 from the Peshawar High Court, which instructed him to appear before the Islamabad sessions court before the expiry of his pre-arrest bail.

Late Saturday night, the Islamabad Police said that in the view of Imran's "expected arrival", security around Bani Gala has been strengthened and placed on high alert. But they said nothing official had been announced with regard to Imran's return.

Meanwhile, there were media reports that the PTI's core committee meeting would be held at Bani Gala. Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid confirmed to Dawn.com that the former prime minister is planning to chair the meeting.

Addressing Imran's possible return, Sanaullah "welcomed" him and said as per the law, he was being provided security. However, he said that "same security" would arrest the PTI chairman with "great enthusiasm" as soon as his pre-arrest bail expires.

"Imran Niazi has been named in more than two dozen cases registered across the country under charges of rioting, sedition, spreading chaos and armed attacks on the federation," he tweeted.

Later, PTI leader Shahbaz Gill told journalists outside Bani Gala that the party had arranged its own security for Imran given the statements passed by Rana Sanaullah.

"The entire nation is standing with Imran Khan. They will protect Imran Khan and Imran Khan will protect them," he said. Referring to talk of the PTI chief's arrest, Gill added that the party would reply in due time. "The entire nation will respond then."

Workers outside Bani Gala
Meanwhile, ahead of Imran's arrival, a number of PTI supporters gathered outside Bani Gala.

In response to a question, one of them said that they were members of the Insaf Students' Federation and were unarmed.

Another supporter said that the party will announce a "plan of action" once and if Sanaullah orders Imran's arrest.

The supporters refused to provide any details on the number of party workers present inside.

Agenda

Fawad Chaudhry said in a tweet that the participants will review the political and economic situation in the country and decide what should be done in the coming days.

Dawn.com was able to confirm that leaders will deliberate on matters concerning to the security of the former prime minister and his Bani Gala residence as well.

Curiously, M. Bilawal Zardari was also happy to forgive and forget les photos nues photoshoppées de sa mère, episode too.

Who said principles and decency in Pakistani politics are dead?

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday barred police from arresting former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, Qasim Suri, Sindh opposition leader Haleem Adil Sheikh and other PTI leaders in different cases registered against them in connection with May 25 ‘Azadi March, ARY News reported.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition filed by PTI leaders through their counsels.

PTI leaders Haleem Adil Sheikh, Fawad Chaudhry and others moved the Islamabad High Court for bail in cases registered by police for damaging government properties and attacking police during Azadi Long March towards Islamabad.

The IHC directed police to submit details of cases registered against PTI leaders and adjourned the hearing till June 28.

It is to be noted that several PTI leaders including former prime minister Imran Khan, Asad Umar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry and others had been booked by police in various FIRs related to Azadi March.

Earlier, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted transit bail to former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan till June 25 in different cases registered against him in connection with May 25 ‘Azadi March’.

Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader Haleem Adil Sheikh has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial highlighting a “grave threat” to his life, allegedly by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership.

In his letter addressed to the Sindh High Court (SHC) chief justice as well, Sheikh said there were “immediate and serious threats” to his life and he wanted “immediate and appropriate” action from quarters concerned.

According to the PTI leader, he had been receiving threats since the day he took oath as the opposition leader of Sindh. He alleged that former president Asif Ali Zardari, his son Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, and Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah tried to harm his life and reputation through their frontmen multiple times. The MPA said the government also filed “fake cases” against him.

The provincial opposition leader said the government wanted to prevent him from attending the budget session and that’s why it had ramped up action against him. “…they have filed various baseless cases against me and have raided my home multiple times. It is important to note that one SHO who conducted these raids and harassed my family was himself a criminal absconder being tried for murder,” the letter alleged.

The Sindh opposition leader further said, “During the last month when the son of one of my family friends was arrested, he was told by one front man of Zardari that there are direct orders from the Zardari to harm my life. He was told that police and the anti-corruption department were instructed to arrest me and then a PPP blue-eyed officer, who is a known criminal, their frontman and whose name was recently also in the apex committee findings, would ensure that I was murdered in police or joint custody, making it look like an accident,” the letter alleged. “The roots [sic] were sowed in Bilawal House,” the PTI lawmaker alleged.

The letter further said that if something happened to Haleem Sheikh then the “sole responsibility will go to Asif Zardari, Bilawal Zardari, CM Murad Ali Shah…and some facilitators”.

The copies of the letter were sent to the Karachi Corps commander, Sindh Assembly speaker, interior secretary, Sindh Rangers DG, ISI sector commander, Sindh IG, Sindh AIG, and IB joint director in Karachi.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan was granted bail in 10 cases related to inciting violence on May 25 amid PTI’s long march to Islamabad, ARY News reported.

The hearing of the cases relating to violence amid the PTI long march was held at a session court in Islamabad. PTI Chairman Imran Khan attended the hearing to plea for bail in the cases.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been granted bail for a security challan of Rs 5000. The PTI Chief has been granted bail until the first week of September.

The court has ordered the police to bring the details of case 425 to the next hearing.

Earlier on July 25, the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore extended interim bail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in a vandalism case during the Long March on May 25.

The ATC expressed its displeasure at the lack of investigation involving Zubair Niazi, Sheikh Imtiaz, Mian Akram Usman and Azeem Afzal and ordered an immediate investigation of the said accused, upon which the statements of Zubair Khan Niazi and others were immediately recorded.

During the hearing, the court directed the investigating officer to record the statements of the accused outside the court, and adjourned the hearing for some time while calling the lawyers of the accused for arguments.

Fearing the arrest of its party chairman Imran Khan by Islamabad police, the PTI and its allies on Tuesday said that Punjab police officers were being sent to take over security of Banigala — Imran’s residence in the capital.

PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi’s, son of PTI-backed Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi, claimed that there was “some movement” towards Banigala. “We are sending Punjab police for protection,” he said soon after another PTI leader Shahbaz Gill was “abducted” from Banigala Chowk.

Soon after, Punjab Minister for Cooperative and Public Prosecutions Mohammad Basharat Raja also said the Punjab police’s elite force was on the way to Banigala for security.

“I’ve reached Banigala. We know how to protect our leaders. Don’t test our patience!” he tweeted.

However, PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry said the party chairman was in no need of police protection since his followers would protect him.

Chaudhry warned that in case Imran was arrested, “There will be a movement in Pakistan that will sweep away the imported government like straws.”

“Hopefully no one will make such a mistake but the workers are ready,” he tweeted.

On the other hand, at a press conference later in the day, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed that the news of Punjab police being dispatched to Bani Gala was “unverified and not proven”.

“No province can send the police or force here without the permission of the federal government,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police clarified that no operation was being conducted near PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence “as of yet”.

“People are advised not to pay attention to false information and propaganda,” the ICT police’s Twitter account said.

The police statement further said that more than 70 policemen had been deployed for Imran’s security, adding that a police superintendent was serving as the PTI chairman’s chief security officer.

The account said that the police would only take steps that were permitted by the law. “A formal request will be made for an additional contingent of police if it is required from any other province,” the account stated.

Earlier today, Chaudhry and other PTI leaders claimed that Imran’s chief of staff, Shahbaz Gill, was “abducted” in Islamabad.

Subsequently, PTI leader Murad Saeed claimed that a “terrible plan” was hatched last night but the party’s followers had sent a “clear message” that any action against Imran would be crossing the “red line”.

Two days ago on Sunday, the Islamabad police issued a clarification regarding a “viral video” that had linked the presence of police outside Imran’s Banigala residence with alleged plans to arrest him.

The capital city police had rejected the notion and clarified that heavy police presence outside Imran’s residence was to disperse a protest staged by teachers from Punjab, where the PTI is back in power.

Footage being shared on social media showed that police personnel and vehicles were present at Banigala, while its entry and exit points were blocked.

Awami Muslim League chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has once again warned the government that attempts to arrest Imran Khan or break the PTI would trigger bloody politics in the country.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Sheikh Rasheed said that the security of the country is more important than politics and power, adding that the instability in Afghanistan will also affect peace in Pakistan.

“Extortion and suicide attacks have started in the country.”

The statement from the former federal minister came after the government filed references against the PTI chairman in prohibited funding and Toshakhana cases.

The Federal Investigation Agency has also launched a probe into the illegal funding and has summoned senior PTI leaders to appear before it.

The government is tightening the noose around PTI after the ECP ruling in the prohibited funding case and a smear campaign against the military following the Balochistan helicopter crash in which six military personnel embraced martyrdom.

Warning the ruling alliance in a series of tweets, Sheikh Rasheed said that the economic collapse, political instability, increasing extortion and terrorism incidents will bury their politics.

He further said that China is thinking well of Pakistan and the rulers should understand its signals and don't make Independence Day a day of destruction.

“Arresting Imran Khan or planning to break PTI will be the start of bloody politics.”

He said their agenda is to disqualify Imran Khan and make Nawaz Sharif eligible.

Warning the government against raiding Imran Khan’s Banigala residence, PTI senior leader Fawad Chaudhry Fawad said the houses of the PML-N’s leaders were also "within arm’s reach", hinting that any such move would be responded with the same.

He said any action by the federal government against the PTI would further deteriorate the economy and push the country towards crisis. “We do not want to take to streets. If the PTI starts a street movement, the government will not last five days and added that right now they only wanted fresh elections without any discord,” he said.

Commenting on Shahbaz Gill's case, Fawad Chaudhry said the wife of Gill's driver was suffering. “The women of the driver’s families were dragged by the police.” He was confident that by Monday, Gill would get bail.

He challenged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to contest elections against the PTI Chairman Imran Khan and then we will know who was most popular in the people.

Responding to a question, he said: “We are ready to talk to the government once it announces a date for the new elections. We are ready to deliberate with the government on elections framework.”

Talking about the PTI’s Lahore power show in the provincial capital, he said, the PTI Chairman Imran Khan will unveil the party’s way forward for his ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ (true freedom) movement.

He said the Punjab government will investigate incidents relating to the police brutality against the party workers on May 25, during the PTI’s long march.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, the PTI leader highlighted that the party has already written a letter to the Punjab government to investigate the incident within 15 days. Federal Interior Minister Rana Sannaullah and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Atta Tarar will also be included in the probe.

Chaudhry said PML-N leaders should clarify their position on the matter. “They are not picking up people; they are just investigating people, which is their right. However, if they hide in the capital then there would be no other option but to declare them wanted” he maintained.

He also came down hard on the former chief minister of Punjab Hamza Shehbaz for ‘fleeing to London’.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to arrest former prime minister Imran Khan if he failed to appear before the investigation committee or respond to the notices concerning the prohibited funding case, sources confided to The News.

The agency will get permission from a court of law to arrest Imran to get details of the party funds and accounts. “The final decision to arrest the PTI chief could be taken after issuing three notices,” the sources maintained.

The FIA issued the second notice to Imran Khan on Friday. Imran received the first notice last Wednesday but refused to appear before the FIA investigation team to provide details of the party funds and accounts.

The sources disclosed that five more PTI companies had been traced which were not mentioned in the reports submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and FBR. These companies are operating in the USA, Australia, Canada, Britain and Belgium, they said, adding that the FIA had collected their audit reports.

The FIA Banking Circle has repeatedly asked the PTI chief to provide details of the bank accounts but Imran, responding through his legal counsel, said he was neither answerable to the FIA nor could it compel him to provide any information, the sources said, adding that the PTI chief had threatened the FIA with taking a legal action if the notice was not withdrawn within two days.

“The FIA committee has collected enough evidences to prove Imran guilty of hiding the factual position from the ECP,” the sources said, adding that the third and probably the final notice would be issued next week well before the end of August.

Islamabad police hits back at Imran, vows action against ‘false allegations’

The Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICT) on Sunday responded to warnings issued by PTI Chairman Imran Khan against the capital police a day ago, saying “anyone threatening the police or making false accusations will be dealt with according to the law”.

The statement from the police come a day after Imran claimed in a rally that the Islamabad police was taking orders for action against his party leaders from “someone”.

“When I asked the police to tell me what did you do to Shahbaz Gill, they said ‘we did nothing, we got a boot from behind to follow orders’,” he told the rally participants on Saturday while announcing plans to move the Supreme Court against the alleged torture of Gill.

Imran also warned the judiciary against its “biased” attitude towards his party, saying that it should brace itself for the consequences.

Reacting to the PTI chief’s statement, the capital police said in a tweet that it will continue to perform its duties “diligently”.

It said the police had taken an oath “to serve the nation at all times”.

“All officers are rendering their services with complete responsibility and continue to discharge them. The police is an organised institution and we are bound to perform our duties come what may,” the ICT said.

It added that the police could not indulge in any mismanagement.

The capital police reiterated that it will take lawful action against “all false allegations”.

Earlier, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said Imran would have to face the law for “threatening and hurling abuse” at the magistrate and police officers.

In a tweet, the minister said the PTI chief will not be allowed “to challenge the writ of the state by inciting rebellion”.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the PTI chairman had become a threat for Pakistan and its security.

“By challenging national institutions and the state writ, he is inciting the people to violence, lawlessness, rebellion and riot. Imran Khan wants a civil war in the country,” she tweeted.

Federal Minister for Railways and Aviation Khwaja Saad Rafique also lashed out at the PTI chief for attacking a magistrate and police in his speech, saying the judicial action was inevitable after he “openly threatened” the judge.

In his address on Saturday, Imran had threatened to file cases against the police, bureaucracy, the Election Com*m*ission of Pakistan and political opp*o*nents over the treatment allegedly meted out to his chief of staff Shahbaz Gill.

The former premier had also taken exception to Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry, who had approved Gill’s two-day physical remand at the request of the capital police, and said she should “prepare herself as action would be taken against her”.

The PTI chief again called on the “neutrals” — a euphemism he uses for the military establishment — to stand with the nation rather than the “gang of thieves”, in reference to the ruling coalition.

He said he wanted to ask the neutrals if they were “really neutral”. He had also alleged that the Islamabad police was taking orders for action against his party leaders from ‘someone’.

The ex-PM had announced that he would present a roadmap to the public in the party’s rally at Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on Sunday (today), adding he planned to take to the streets across the country from today.

Pemra bans live broadcast of Imran’s speeches
Soon after Imran’s speech, the electronic media regulator slapped a ban on all satellite TV channels from carrying the PTI chief’s speeches live.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) communiqué — issued late at night — held that channels had failed to implement a time-delay mechanism which could curtail such occurrences.

In a four-page document that included a specific reference to Imran’s speech on Saturday night, where he had targeted police and judicial officers, the regulator said that only recorded speeches could be telecast, and those too would only be allowed if a time-delay mechanism was in place.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said on Thursday that it will shut Islamabad down and hold country-wide protests in case of party chairman Imran Khan's arrest.

The plan of action was decided in a meeting of the PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Advisory Committee.

The meeting was held in Islamabad under the leadership of PTI’s provincial president Pervaiz Khattak; senior leaders including Asad Qaiser, Nurul Haq Qadri, Azam Swati, Ali Amin Gandapur, Omar Ayyub, Shehryar Afridi, Atif Khan, Shaukat Yousafzai and Shahram Tarkai were also present.

K-P Labour Minister Shaukat Yousafzai said, “In case of Imran Khan's arrest, all routes leading towards Islamabad will be shut down and a sit-in will be held until the 'imported government' is ousted.”

The provincial minister condemned the government for filing false and baseless cases against the party chief as well as other PTI leaders.

It was further reported that the PTI chief has summoned party officials and provincial youth presidents at a meeting in Islamabad tomorrow. The legal aspect, political situation of the country and other important matters will be discussed in the meeting and the senior leadership will be consulted regarding the march towards Islamabad.

Last month, the PTI leaders had asked party workers and supporters to take to the streets to protest against the possible arrest of the former prime minister.

The call was given after PTI chairman Imran was booked in a terrorism case on the complaint of Islamabad Saddar Magistrate Ali Javed for allegedly threatening the additional sessions judge of the federal capital, Zeba Chaudhry.

Answering the call, PTI workers and supporters continued flocking to Bani Gala, the residence of PTI chief Imran Khan.

Several PTI bigwigs were also present at Imran’s residence in Bani Gala.

Imran’s security far more than that of three ex-PMs
Imran Khan has been provided 255 security officials from different law-enforcing agencies

ISLAMABAD: If judged on the basis of the level of government security provided to four former prime ministers — Imran Khan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Raja Pervez Ashraf and Yousaf Raza Gillani — Khan is really the Ladla (a blue-eyed boy).

Official information shared with The News shows that Imran Khan has been provided 255 security officials from different law-enforcing agencies. There is also a small number of private security guards deployed for Khan’s safety. He has also been provided with five vehicles and jammers.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is, however, a pleasant and unique example, as he does not have even a single government security official with him as former chief executive of the country.

Yousaf Raza Gillani has been provided with only three house guards whereas one police escort is provided to him on demand. Raja Pervez Ashraf has been offered three gunmen and two FC guards. One police escort is provided to him on demand.

In the case of Imran Khan, there is a heavy deployment of security personnel from different departments, including Islamabad, KPK, GB police, FC, Rangers, Askari guards, Banigala Security guards.

There is one SP level police officer, four inspectors, two sub-inspectors, 19 assistant sub-inspectors/subedars, 179 constables, two lady police officials, two Special Branch personnel, 15 CTD force officials, three drivers and 28 guards deployed for Imran Khan’s security.

There are 77 personnel from Islamabad Police, 57 from KP, eight from GB police, 78 from FC, six from Rangers, nine from Askari Guards, 20 from Banigala security guards. The government vehicles provided to Imran Khan for his security are a Land Cruiser, two jammers vehicles (one each from GB and KP police) and two pickups.

Only recently, it was reported in the Rawalpindi area, a Land Cruiser in Imran Khan’s convoy had caught fire due to a short-circuit. It is said that Imran Khan was returning from Gujrat when the incident had taken place near the Rawat Police Station in the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi.

The Land Cruiser (IDF-4194) reportedly belonged to the Punjab CM’s Secretariat and was bulletproof. At the time of the incident, only security officials were inside the vehicle and all of them remained safe.
