Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Sunday said that the police personnel who are part of the security detail outside Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan's Bani Gala residence will arrest the former prime minister "with great enthusiasm" once his bail ends.
On Twitter, the interior minister welcomed Imran Khan ahead of his expected return to Islamabad from Peshawar.
The PTI chief, who began his party's ‘Azadi March’ from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, returned to the province since it abruptly ended.
PTI mouthpieces like Shahbaz Gill have since claimed that the security that was being provided to the former premier had been pulled.
"As per the law, he is being provided security," Sanaullah said today. "Imran Niazi has been named in more than two dozen cases registered across the country under charges of rioting, sedition, spreading chaos and armed attacks on the federation," he tweeted.
The "same security" provided to Imran, he claimed, would arrest the PTI chairman with "great enthusiasm" as soon as his court bail expires.
"A person who spreads chaos in the country on a daily basis, who has complete disregard for moral and democratic values and who sometimes calls his opponents traitors and Yazidis... how can he be the head of a political party in a democratic society?" the minister went on, adding that this was the "moment of reflection" for the nation.
Imran was booked in a number of cases at multiple police stations across Islamabad over allegations of arson and vandalism a day after he ended his 'Haqeeqi Azadi March' on May 25.
Last week, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) granted the former premier pre-arrest bail till June 25 against surety bonds of Rs50,000. The PTI chairman was also instructed to appear before the Islamabad sessions court before June 25.
Security outside Bani Gala on 'high alert'
Meanwhile, in a tweet on June 3, PTI's Shahbaz Gill had alleged that the government had withdrawn Imran's security despite threat alerts. He claimed that Maryam Nawaz, who was a convict, was given PM-level security.
"These are just cheap tactics of the imported government," he added.
Subsequently, late Saturday night, the Islamabad Police said that in the view of Imran's expected arrival, security around Bani Gala has been strengthened and placed on high alert.
"However, until now Islamabad Police has not received any confirmed news of return from Imran Khan's team," the Islamabad police tweeted.
"Security Division has deployed dedicated security in Bani Gala. List of people in Bani Gala not provided yet to Police. Section 144 is imposed in Islamabad and any congregation is not allowed as per orders of District Magistrate," it further stated.
The police added that Imran would be provided complete security as per the law and "reciprocal cooperation is expected from Security teams of Imran Khan as well".
