Pakistan Women's Cricket Team Captain Bismah Maroof on Saturday disclosed that she has been in talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to address the significant gap between male and female payers' pay.

"We are in talks with the board and I feel they also have plans to address this issue," Maroof revealed in a post-practice session press conference.

"I cannot discuss the details of our talks as yet, but I do believe something will pan out soon," Maroof said when asked how much of a raise female players expected to get.

It has been learnt that while male cricketers in Pakistan make nearly $77,000 per annum, women only make $12,000.

"The pay gap is huge. Another problem female cricketers face is that they only get a daily allowance when playing a domestic game, and no match fee," Maroof said.

"If they are given a match fee in the future, it would make a big difference for the girls."

In lobbying for egalitarian pay, Maroof is following in the footsteps of her Indian counterpart, Mathali Raj, who was the first to question the pay gap between male and female cricketers during the 2017 Cricket World Cup.

In a 2017 news report, Indian news outlet Scroll.in had mentioned that Raj expected that India reaching the Women's World Cup final should have acted as a game-changer for women’s cricket in India.

The Indian skipper had stated that her team's success should lead to financial gains as well as the same amount of respect their male counterparts enjoy.

Not sure why they should get same as males as Men's team has a bigger following in Pakistan and therefore earn more for the PCB.

Money you make is directly proportional to the money you bring into the game. These feminists are crazy.

These female cricketers are nowhere near the best players among women cricketers. They can at the best defeat Bangladesh and Sri Lankan women, who themselves are minnows in women's cricket.

Are you kidding me? I am all for equality but i cannot ask for same salary that a person in the same position as me is getting at Microsoft. Thats just foolish. You generate bigger revenue for your employer, you get bigger pay.

The male cricketers generate more money for the PCB. They are the more marketable team. Hence they should be paid more.

However I do agree with her that they should have match fees.

While I don't think they should be earning $77,000 a year, 12k is a joke. And no where did she say she wants to earn as much as males, please read the statement. She just wants to narrow the gap, which I am completely fine with.

Some very poor posts in this thread.... How dare a woman ask for equal rights... It's not like its the 21st century or anything. Also if some of you had bothered to read the OP she is not asking for equal pay she is asking for reduction in pay gap since it is huge at the moment.

Broadcasters generated about $450,000 (USD) from the entire Women's WC. While the men's India-Pakistan final generated $180,000 (USD) for each 30 second ad.

That's the difference.

While the current pay gap is a bit much, you can start to notice why the figures are the way they are. It's not as clear-cut as Hollywood where both are bringing in the same revenue.

$12,000 a year is pretty disgraceful though. They should get more or the women's game will never grow.

I agree a reduction is necessary but this isnt about equality so it shouldnt be misrepresented in that way. Equal pay for equal work does not work in the entertainment industry. Its all about how much money you bring in.

Do you really believe If Salman Khan is in a movie with for example Zarine Khan, that they should get the same pay? Think about how many people go to watch movies just because they have Salman in them, then compare that to Zarine's fan following.

Conversely, If Scarlett Johanson and Daniel Kaluuya are in a movie together, do you think they should get paid the same? Scarlett Johanson is a way bigger star, and deserves more money.

Rounda Rousey said it best, when asked by a reporter if she thought she should be earning the same amount as a male UFC fighter, she said no because it should be based on how many people you bring in to watch your fight. Funny enough, she made a lot more money than a lot of male fighters because she was a bigger draw.

With all due respect, Pakistan cricket is a big mess at the moment. Let them 1st get the basics right for the male cricket team. If this continues like it is, there wont be any cricket left in Pakistan, just like they killed hockey.
