As the excitement and emotions of the Test series victory in the Caribbean settles in to our hearts forever, we must never forget how close we were to being resigned to a 1-1 series draw. In the final moments of Misbah-ul-haq and Younis Khans illustrious careers, we as fans were drawn to think that once again, Misbah would fall short.
It has been a constant pattern for Misbah-ul-haq,to always be on the cusp of great victory or achievement, but not get over the line.
There are many examples we could point to where Misbah had led the fight or the struggle, but did not reap the rewards. 2007 T20 WC, 2011 WC easily spring to mind. Even in his last series he fell short of a 100 TWICE. In some ways, that had always been Misbahs case, he was always fighting an uphill battle and seemed destined to fall short even in his last moments.
Misbah has had great acheivements no doubt, the highlight being that he led Pakistan to the number one ranking in Test Cricket, a feat that if it were even thought of in 2010 would be the dream of a dream.
In the end though, Misbah was not to be denied. A man who had gone through much adversity, much criticisim, heartbreak, turmoil and had taken it all head on and when Yasir Shah delivered the final blow to the Windies, due to a brain failure by the no.11 or perhaps some divine being had meant it to be so, Misbah-ul-haq was not going to feel that emotion of being so close, yet so far, Cricket had its way of rewarding King Misbah, and we shall all miss the man who had many faults, but also great acheivements.
