I’ve noticed what appears to be a growing trend in which some individuals allegedly pose as Muslims online or in public settings and then make provocative or offensive statements. I’m trying to understand what motivation there might be behind this behaviour. We’ve seen several instances that are cited in discussions about this issue. For example, there have been claims of some posters on this forum adopting false identities, as well as a reported incident involving an individual named Abhay Nayak who was arrested on an EasyJet flight after shouting extremist slogans.
There has also been a widely criticised case in which a member of the Bajrang Dal reportedly killed a cow in an attempt to frame Muslims.
My question is: what do people believe they gain from actions like these, and why does this behaviour occur?
