India’s batting collapses are back in the spotlight. From 36 all out in Adelaide (2020) to the shocking 46 vs New Zealand at home (2024), and now the two-day disaster vs South Africa (2025)—the trend is brutal and recent.

Notable Collapses
36 all out vs Australia (2020): India’s lowest ever Test score. No batter reached double digits.

46 all out vs New Zealand (2024): Lowest score at home. Bowled out in 31.2 overs.

Which defeat was the most embarrassing?

If I were an Indian fan, I would be proud of 36 all-out, because it led to one of India's great comeback victories. That 36 all-out is part of the narrative and only makes it better.

Losing 3-0 to NZ at home feels like the most embarrassing one, because India pretty much got annihilated in all 3 matches.

For me 120 chase in West Indies because lot of wickets WI took were giant no balls. We were bowled out for 80 runs.

These turners are not helping. Time to produce flatties and get some key home wins. We are doing fine away.

Win or lose is part of the game.

This was just a standard loss to a better team. Not too embarrassing or humiliating.

46 all out at home was undoubtedly an embarrassment.

WHat about today's defeat.... 408 runs at the hands of Proteas and also whitewashed

The loss that hurted the most was back in 2004-05 against Australia.

Sachin missed 2 out of 4 test matches, India needed 200 on the 5th day in 2nd test at Chennai with 10 wkts in hand but rain spoiled the contest.

Sachin returned in the 3rd test on a green Nagpur wicket which was given on purpose by Manohar the previous BCCI chief, Ganguly protested & sat out. India lost the test & the series 1-2 with a win coming at Wankhede in the 4th test.

Australia haven't beaten India since that fluke in 2004, before 2004 they had beaten India back in 1969-70.

Australia has won only one test series in India in 56 years.

If Gambhir stays on in 2027, that record will also be broken.

India created history today, this was their biggest defeat ever in in Test cricket in terms of runs.

And Markram also created history by taking 9 catches in a Test match.

This pitch was pretty flat and it resulted in India's heaviest margin of defeat in test cricket interms of runs

SA scoring 749 runs and losing 15 wickets is quite amazing if this wicket also was a square turner.

India’s biggest Test defeats (by runs)

408 runs vs SA, Guwahati, 2025
342 runs vs AUS, Nagpur, 2004
341 runs vs PAK, Karachi, 2006
337 runs vs AUS, Melbourne, 2007
333 runs vs AUS, Pune, 2017

Question really is if India will bounce back in the next series, if they do, this will just be fotgotten

This is darkest time for test team. I don't think we whitewashed in two series at home in a single year. :kp

GG career is on the line !! He is likely to be sacked. Playing tullebaaz aka fake allrounders in test cricket . Pathetic

Yes, tbh Indians are the most delusional fans
No one is delusional . We knows we are going through very bad phase in test cricket although limited over cricket team is excellent.

gill is safe here as he didn't played South Africa series .
:kp

Going further back, one of my favourite memories of Indian cricket is the eight away test losses on the trot (0-4 vs Aus and 0-4 vs Eng) in 2011-12.

0-5 is great but 0-8 was even better. Hoping golden boy of Ind cricket Gauti can stick around… gauti hai tou mumkin hai 🤣

LOL. I remember the 0-8 drubbing.

They may return to that type of performance once Siraj and Bumrah retire. The new Indian bowlers haven't been good. :dav

That post was after 1st test. I was talking about Kolkata which was a turner.

I think the 2nd test defeat was very humiliating for the indians. Heaviest defeat in their test history...
