Mathematically, the Netherlands still have a sliver of a chance to reach the Super Eights in the ongoing T20 World Cup, but in practical terms, their hopes have all but vanished. Failures to secure a win against Pakistan and being outplayed by the USA have left them in a precarious position ahead of their final group game. Yet, their clash with India at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday remains significant for the campaign.

Since 2022, the Netherlands have faced India twice in World Cups, and one of their biggest challenges has been managing the pressure of playing in front of massive crowds. Ahmedabad promises the largest audience they are likely to encounter, and rather than feeling intimidated, the team hopes for a packed stadium.

Whether it’s a full house of over 100,000 or at least 80,000, they want the stands to be brimming. Beyond the exposure, the team sees the experience as a chance to grow as a cricketing nation—one of the strongest Associate sides since the 1990s, known for regular World Cup appearances and occasional giant-killer performances against the top teams.

Attempts to persuade local businesses of the significance of their qualification largely fell flat; sponsors struggled to grasp the scale, even when it was likened to a football World Cup in Brazil.

For the first time, all World Cup matches are being streamed live on NOS, the Netherlands’ state broadcaster. The disparity between the resources and professionalism of India and the Netherlands’ more frugal, part-time approach will be starkly visible, but the players hope to make their mark regardless.

If the Netherlands squad can handle the crowd pressure and withstand India’s onslaught, they have an opportunity to demonstrate that they are not to be underestimated. Even if it comes down to one final giant-killing moment before their campaign ends, it would serve as a fitting testament to their resilience and spirit.

I’m excited about how Abhishek Sharma shapes up for this game. He hasn’t scored a run thus far in this tournament so he’s due some runs.

After watching every team in the WC, its obvious Ind have no match their world cup to lose, its all too easy

Can't ask for a better pitch and a better bowling attack to regain form against
I ti nos the pitch. First match they had an unusual field placing which he failed to notice. Also he was running 103 degree fever i heard. And also against pakistan he looked depleted of energy. If you are hospitalized that means you probably lost a lot of fluid and energy in the process. It will hit you physically. Too bad it happened at the worst time.

I have two tickets, chahiye kisi ko le sakta hai. i already brought 22 feb match between india and south africa.

Waste hi jayenge ticket agar koi h aaspas ka to le skata hai free of cost. Vase 5k ka h each.

:klopp :kp

Exactly. Which is why this is the perfect opportunity to get amongst the runs

Abhishek can get back into form in this match.

India should bowl second under dewy conditions in this panauti stadium.

For me usually it takes about 15 days to get my energy fully back after a fever like this. I am not sure if he will be fit even for the next match. Mentally, physically. It just takes the wind out of you. I think he should resort to his old style of tuk tuk for a while before exploding.

Back to the good old 1990s where BD fans resort to watching cricket just like how they watch football, rooting for argentina lol
The amount of time, effort, and money ICC has wasted on them is staggering. Over three decades. Zero trophies. Not even a lucky tri-series win. When you think about BD cricket the first thing that comes to mind is that infamous nageen dance . Done nothing. Achieved nothing. Just permanent RSVP guests at tournaments, showing up to help with the headcount. I am effing glad that ICC showed them the door this time. No more charity, money can't fix DNA.

Didn't Jaiswal or Gill have dengue fever before the CT match also? They need to protwct themselves better.

These guys are top level athletes who get all the help from trainers and support staff. Think he should be fine.

I don't care who you support, but you are a true Cricket fan brother. I hope you get to cheer for your own team soon.🇧🇩

I watch cricket because I like the sport (nothing to do with nationalism). Even if my country doesn't play cricket, I may still follow cricket. :dav

Having said that, cricket has declined in quality thanks to BCCICC. Cricket was much better before 2000.

Anyway, my favorite sport has always been football. Cricket is more like #2 for me. :inti

Good opportunity for India to flex their batting muscle. Don't really feel like they have done that in this tournament so far the way everyone expected them to.

Bangladesh new govt has expressed its friendliness and cooperation with India.

I saw the writing in the wall before anyone and developed a friendship with Sweepy bhai long before other Indians.

oh lord what has happen to the mighty abhishek sharma, cant buy a run it seems. Will be interesting to see if India persist with him during the super 8s.

I will keep faith with Abhi.

My only reason - I would be very surpRised if the extremely competitive Indian system will let some completely random player get to the position of opening the batting in any form of the game.

Looks Like He Is Playing Under Pressure & Wanted To Prove That He Can Go From Ball 1 & Getting Out. It's Ok For Now But We Can't Afford This In Super 8 Or Semis

:kp

This won't be the last time he scored 3 ducks in a row. Changes nothing, he stays our main guy.

Tilak Varma chewing up valuable balls in the powerplay while the guy striking at 197 in the tournament has only played 3

Nothing's wrong with abhishek.. he'll be fine. He will step it up in the super 8s. I d is not like Pak to drop someone so quickly and get back kohli klrahul ala babar azam rizwan style lol ! Just like sky form.. guys like these will not waste balls and will not tuk tuk. SA zim wi will bear the brunt of abhishek force in the super 8s ! 🙂

Lol Abhishek living up to his reputation. I knew all the jhingalala from Indians for this garbage opener was just a facade

Abhishek Sharma's big innings will start from Super 8 stage..... India just testing if AS gets out on Zero what will be effect on Team's batting

Lol it's always good to see crying faces of Indians in the crowd.
They always go overboard with their cringe celebrations.
Good stuff nederlands.
