Ravi Shastri's commentary 'brain fade' as India won the T20 World Cup set to haunt legend
Indian cricket legend and now commentator Ravi Shastri had a moment he'd rather forget during the country's T20 World Cup victory.
With seven balls left, the required target of 256 was well out of reach for New Zealand as Jacob Duffy tried to go big off Abhishek Sharma at 9-159.
Duffy couldn't clear the boundary and Tilak Varma took the catch at long-on. Varma threw the ball in celebration but Shastri wasn't quite aware of the situation.
"Taken in the deep, ninth wicket goes down," he said rather anti-climactically on Amazon Prime.
Shastri then realised his mistake as the celebrations became wilder.
"And it's all done actually, it's India who win the World Cup for the third time," he said.
"The first team to win back-to-back World Cups, and the first host to win the T20 World Cup in their home town, it's a fantastic performance by India."
The camera then cut to ICC chairman Jay Shah who shared a handshake and hug with MS Dhoni.
Unfortunately for Shastri, the simple mistake wasn't missed by many on social media.
Broadcaster Glenn Mitchell wrote on X the moment "will haunt" the experienced commentator.
"Unfortunately, an incredible brain fade in commentary."
