He was already told about India’s intention beforehand by the match refree Andy Pycroft. His approach should’ve been: “If they don’t want to shake hands, that’s fine — we’re only focused on winning.”

The PCB should have strictly told the players to avoid commenting on anything outside their domain and to focus on their primary jobs.
 
You could have made it come back to bite Indians, but now you will depend upon SENA to do that.

Also, I hope this gesture doesn't ease the backlash he and some of his players deserve for their cricketing skills. Reaching the final was a good achievement but all this shouldn't be used to cover his inadequacies as a captain and the poor performances by some of their players.

The two biggest jokers are Modi and Naqvi who keep dragging politics into it. The players shouldn't be blamed for any of the unprofessionalism seen on the field. Cricket is not a battlefield, it's a sport. Let's keep politics and cricket separate.

Winning solves a lot. Pakistan’s best response is to elevate their game and let their performance speak for itself. Chewing gum nonchalantly and trying to respond to disrespect with attitude won’t help if you're not delivering results on the pitch. Stay focused, stay professional, and become world-class. Respect will follow naturally.
 
Salman Agha disrespected cricket by selecting nothing players like Talat, himself etc & ending up being the butt of global jokes.

Exactly this.

People need to cut this guy some slack. I think the pressure of captaincy in addition to a brittle batting line up got to him in this tournament - that's understandable. All eyes were on him more than any other captain there because of the whole RizBar thing and the controversy from Team India.

He has handled himself brilliantly off the field.

Pakistanis are a proud and humble nation. We are respectful and polite by nature. That is why Pakistan as a nation is viewed as a more beautiful nation than others. He displayed that. Remained professional and humble throughout.

Tried his best. Made some mistakes but importantly remained true to his character - no attitude just someone who shows up and tries. He's not great and will ultimately be replaced as the T20 skipper at some stage but at least he kept his dignity in tact.

Well done.

When he was asked specifically about Indian antics he had to answer honestly. He’s right in his answers. I’ve never seen this level of petulance from any team in world sport

Even back in 1998 when there was a lot of tension between Iran and the USA and the geopolitical climate overshadowed that game, the teams still shook hands and went one step further handing white roses as a symbol of peace.

Now I’m not saying they hand each other flowers, but there are certain etiquettes you follow as a sportsman. The non handshake was a symbolic gesture and then the petulance at the end of the match about not receiving the trophy was even worse.

Salman saying he’d never seen anything like it is absolutely correct. So you want him to lie and say “oh yea it was great”. He was asked a question and answered.

If Indian want to normalise this type of behaviour, go ahead, but it says more about their need to overcompensate for what happened in the summer than anything else.

Poor guys just want any victory to start singing again.

Do what you want, but regarding the “operation” in the summer,everyone on the world stage apart from India is unanimous on what happened. India acting like that just reminds everyone what happened.

But remember, politicians are never sincere with anyone. They will use you for their own benefit and also hang you dry when needed.

In 10 to 15 years time, when relations between both countries will improve, and they sill improve as this keeps on happening, thats when the Indian politicians or its board members will try to distance itself away from what Surya did.

After that it would had been forgotten what he did, infact, he would had been praised for not bowing down to the govt pressure in the longer run.

Politicians in BCCI come and go, but than guys like Rajiv Shukla stay forever, and these are the guys who keep good relations with countries like Pakistan etc. So when needed, people like Rajiv shukla will distance away from what Surya did.

I don't have to do jack, smashing you 3 times in a single tournament is enough entertainment for me, the off the field humiliation that SKY and co dished out is just bonus.

Also who cares about the trophy? we have won like a dozen of Asia cups. You can keep the trophy, hell, your failed marshal is probably already doing victory parades as we speak lol.
 
Lets be brutally honest, Indian cult have been humiliated for an eternity, and even in this Asia cup, where Pakistan not only exposed the BCCI cult for their hypocrisy (worldwide), but then this so called puny country like Pakistan forced the upcoming superpuwa to play its game in an Islamic country, UAE.

Still, this isnt a touch on the Modi disappearing act of 2023 WC final.

Remember, Pakistan are kingmakers - we force India to play where we want to - this authority and power is worth a 100 losses.

Ignoring all the political and disrespecting cricket nonsense, don't care about any of that. That interview was as meek as Agha himself. Did he seriously talk up the fact the team managed to score 170/180 in T20 matches as some kind of achievement?! That's the minimum for most teams. Most successful T20 teams are hitting almost 200 on a regular basis and viewing that as a competitive score and this guy thinks hitting 170 shows they are doing "well"....

Sure if that helps you sleep at night while desperately clinging to your stuffed Agha doll but in reality no self respecting captain is talking up scoring 170 in a T20 international match regardless of where it is played.
 
Cricket has obviously been hijacked here by the politics of it all and the politicians on both sides are having a field day.

SKY ... having trolled through the news today, is the victim. He has obviously been asked by BCCI (prompted by the govt) to carry out these schenanigans over the last few weeks. I think if he did the opposite he will be viled left right and centre so he has taken the safest route. To be honest, if Agha was similarly coerced the results would be the same.

Governments on both sides are jingoistic, authoritarian, freedom granted only if you speak their language, and, for whom human life carries no meaning.

Pakistanis still live under the illusion that it will go back to the "good old days".

In fact a lot of Pakistanis have expressed how India has become so much aggressive.

"Previously cricket was never this way. There were issues but we still played cricket."

"Previously there were no direct military attacks in retaliation."

What a lot of Pakistanis are completely blind to and in fact deny vehemently is this:

India's economy has grown rapidly in the past 25-30 years. Pakistan's hasn't. India and Pakistan are no longer peers. Even normalized by population, India is ahead on every socioeconomic factor.

In 15 years this gap will grow even more as India is growing much faster than Pakistan.

Pakistanis want a return to the old times (in cricket, in relations etc) w/o realizing it is not the old times anymore. The power differential has shifted massively and it will shift even more.

This is a very balanced take. I personally believe overall behavior of both the teams was appalling. There was no need for Surya to start that nonsense at the first game. If he wanted to dedicate the win he could have waited for the tournament to be over, win the cup and then dedicate that trophy to the winners. Than there was no need for Moshin Naqui, Rauf, Faheem etc to do all the shenanigans before and during the tournament.

Iam also baffled why india doesn't want to accept the trophy from Naqui. Isn't it a matter of pride to win the tournament and then take the trophy from your rivals. It's like making a point that they are better than Pakistanis and proved by their own chairman handing over the trophy to India. Wasn't the same PCB chairman avoided handing over the champions trophy few months ago to India to avoid any backlash?

India could have politely played the game, won the tournament without much pressure and walked away with the trophy and say whatever they wanted. They woild have been talking after proving that they are the best team
