ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Crossing all limits of humanity, India has imposed an unannounced ban on issuance of medical visas to Pakistani citizens.

According to sources, India is making several changes in the rules to make the visa process more complicated while no visa has been granted to any Pakistani citizen during last two months.

Islamabad has expressed reservation over the move that will affect thousands of Pakistanis travelling to India for health reasons. According to Indian media, Narendra Modi’s government is also planning to review business and religious pilgrimage visas offered to Pakistani citizens.

Reportedly, around 500 patients travel to India for treatment of liver and heart-related ailments at major hospitals in New Delhi, Chennai and other cities.

The decision to restrict visa issuance has been taken by India few weeks after it decided to put all bilateral engagements with Pakistan on hold after RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav’s death sentence.

Though the curbs will also come at some cost to India, the BJP-led government is ready to go ahead to reflect what foreign minister Sushma Swaraj had announced in Parliament that India will go to any extent to free Jadhav.

The Indian spy was tried through Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under Pakistan Army Act (PAA). He was arrested on March 3, 2016 through a Counter Intelligence Operation from Mashkel, Balochistan.

In March last year, Pakistan Army released a video in which the Indian spy confessed to New Delhi’s involvement in terrorist activities in Balochistan.

After much hue and cry from the neighbouring country, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said India was sponsoring cross-border terrorism in Pakistan. He made it clear that Kulbhushan Jadhav’s death sentence was a warning for those hatching conspiracies against the country.

India is trying everything to improve the relations by cancelling cricket tours, rejecting medical visas, rejecting sports visas, sending students back, refusing to play ANY sports and what does Pakistan do in return? capture their inncent citizens like Yadav who were on peace mission in Pakistan.

Not sure if the Indians actually understand what the majority of Pakistan People feel.

Alienating them is possibly the worst action they can take.
 
So according to some "sources" that DuniyaNews didn't care to mention, "India is making several changes in the rules to make the visa process more complicated".

This gets a headline "India bans medical visas". Ridiculous.
 
This is a crappy decision, but it's their country and they can decide who comes or not.

Doesn't change a thing. India was an enemy state despite medical visas, and it will stay the case irrespective of what India does.
 
India refuses medical visas to Pakistani patients

ISLAMABAD: India has not issued medical visas to Pakistani patients seeking treatment in India since the last two months, it was reported on Saturday.

The Indian government has made it difficult for Pakistani patients to seek treatment in India, which has affected thousands of Pakistani who suffer from liver, kidney and heart diseases.

Many Pakistani patients with liver, kidney and heart diseases travel to India every year for treatment. However, reports have emerged that these patients have continually being denied visas since last two months.

Indian High Commission did not give a satisfactory response when contacted.

Earlier, the Indian High Commission had denied visas to Pakistani wrestlers, who were going to represent Pakistan in the Asian Wrestling Championship, which will be held in India from May 10 to May 14.

The move comes in response to the escalating tensions between the two neighbouring countries following Pakistan announcing death sentence of Indian spy Kulbushan Jadhav.

all this is the preparation for a war, it has happened before, other countries have used the same tactics against some countries, they cut off all ties gradualy and then war is inevitable, Indian government is well prepared for war, but our government is full of ish
 
Pak patients should look to China for their medical needs.

China is their best friend and will do anything to help Pakistani people. Quality will also be much better than in India.

So Pakistan should assassinate an Indian Citizen accused of "spying" captured in Iran while carrying an Indian Passport and has denied 15 times access through the consulate and India should maintain the relationship ? Well put sir !

You are comparing the situation in India -Pak with world war 2 ? Really ? You have lost your marbles bud - US and N Korea haven't gone at each other yet , but political tactics between India and Pakistan makes you think a war is around the corner. If you believe so make sure you stock up on all the food items and start digging that bunker and shelter

So when did USA and USSR declare war on each other again ? Fools think proxy war in a distant land is the same as direct war. India and Pakistan are not going to war, unless Pakistan starts it, like it has historically done. Only way India goes to war against Pakistan, is we have a ballistic missile shield first. and that is still decades away.

as expected you made baseless assumptions and start putting words in my mouth.

I never compared the situation to any situation. You are the one who is posting brainless comments without knowledge of the proxy war amongst other things. Both nations have nukes that doesnt mean they'll just start launching nukes at each others, it's the modern age and proxy war is the most used tactic amongst nuclear powers.

Why can't Pakistan produce good doctors? Surely, India and Pakistan started at the same level so if India can, why Pakistan cannot?

Apni country ko Etna toh develop kar lo ki India ki meherbaaniyo ki jarurat na pade.
 
All big talks of Pakistan China Friendship but for medical purposes, India is the ultimate destination for Pakistanis.

The policies are not dictated by majority people, unfortunate truth about India Pakistan relation is they can never be friends until both sides get strong leaders with full power who are actually willing to have peace..
 
If India thinks that by creating hurdles for average Pakistanis will somehow turn them against their government/army then they are delusional. Infact, it is going to have an opposite affect and it will hurt India in the long run. If India is serious about regional stability and growth it needs to put a stop to these petty policies. If Pakistan started to act the way Indian media portrays then we will have a nuclear war in no time.

pakistan have one of the bestest doctors and facilities for every major medical treatment ....
its just not as cheap as in india, thats all ....

India is cheap, says who? India has the most expensive & high quality medical treatments available in South Asia. We don't get patients just from Pak, also from the west, Africa & East Asia.

Though I dunno about the motivation behind this move, but unless the govt wants to follow through & do some more bickering/hard line policy against Pak it doesn't make sense to me. What's the end game in all of this, is this just a series of (mis)steps couple of years before the elections?

I live here & you think I don't know about this? Though if you do say that it is cheaper, is that on average or in rare cases like subsidized or specialized treatment? I mean can you cite examples where you see India is cheaper in procedure, I can agree about medicines because we produce a ton of them cheaply.

can you give me an example for the kidney transplant in india ? how much it costs ?
 
Around 4 to 5 lakh rupees in govt hospital & at least 6~10 lakh INR in pvt hospitals, in super specialty hospitals it might be even higher. If you know about costs specific hospital then share with us, maybe I can check with my cousin who's in hospital admin.

here in pakistan its around 6-7 lakh rupees in govt hospitals but majority of the people preferd pvt hospitals so in pvt hospitals its 10 > lakhs and higher ....
 
If true then this is a stupid move. Even from an economic pov this will cost Indian hospitals a lot of money in lost revenue.

it was a team of pakistan army's surgeons .... :)

As i said before, we have every facility, but its not cheap , now you can gloat about the top 500 list from some unknown internet site as much as you can ....

You are clueless, both about Pakistani doctors and the facilities you have. Anyway, my aim isn't to look down upon Pakistan in any way, but even Bangladesh is miles ahead of Pakistan in this regard, so forget comparisons with India and educate yourself. Pakpassion has many Pakistani doctors, so tag them to know what you don't.

first, i was a delusional and when i gave you an example of malala surgery, now i am a clueless .... good.
I gave you an example of A surgery on malala, it was a very critical surgery for her life, you can check out what the Uk docs have said about the first surgery she gt in pakistan.
you just dont heard more about things like that becoz they dont gt attention in the media ....

Not a fan of this move personally, as I have met few Pakistani kids and their parents few years back, they were thanking India from heart for the care and treatment which wasn't available in Pakistan.Infact, many doctor in Pakistan do recommend people to go to India if a case is out of their spectrum of expertise.

if India has taken such drastic step then situation might be worse than what we, sitting at home, think it is.

Happy for Malala but this is not how medical infrastructure or specialization of a country is judged. Anyway, I see no point of dragging this useless debate further. If you believe that Pakistan has the bestest doctors and facilities, then so be it. I salute the progress.

There might be the best facilities in Pakistan mate but the issue is whether it available to all the Upper middle class people as well,which is one of the reasons why India does well because of such facilities being available throughout South India.
There are issues obviously as burdened healthcare and many Indian citizens not trusting some of the hospitals but for much decent amount even a non-VIP can get treated well.
 
May be the situation is really bad to issue visa to any Pakistani. This is sad tbh...

Even during war,it wasn't this bad from what Hindustan Times is sharing its w.r.t Yadav's sentences sad irrespective of it.

yaar i have said it before in my first post, we have facilities and doctors but its not Cheap , like in india .... its true.
Its expensive, and dare i say, very expensive.
but its hilarious to have a thinking like that pakistan doesnt have a kidney transplant/ heart transplant facilities or even brain surgeries etc

10 Lakh Pakistani rupees is just over 6 lakh Indian Rupees. So its pretty much the same price.

Indian medical facilities are not cheap at all.The govt ones are very cheap but ofcourse no foreigner will be allowed in there so that will not matter. Indian medical scenario has gone through a huge change in last two decades and India is becoming a hub of medical tourism as the medical treatment is cheaper(compared to Western countries because of $ rates etc).No other south Asian country comes close in that matter. There are 1-2 hospitals in Bangkok and Singapore which are very good,but the cost of treatment is as expensive is high as in any western country and there is not much difference in terms of quality of treatment.

Pakistan unfortunately doesnt figure anywhere among the top medical service providers.The quality isnt there nor the infrastructure.I hope you are not confusing the Pakistani origin doctors in UK or US or Australia who i have heard are pretty good, to the ones in Pakistan.

In govt you will probably have to wait more than year for your turn to come due the huge pressure and a foreigner wont be allowed so comparision with them will not matter.

In a private hospital it wil cost 10L INR plus. You may have to add the extras for travelling from Pakistan to India and staying here for 2-3 months for the surgery and post surgical follow up.Convert all this to PKR and you will see that the cost is not at all cheap.Indian medical services may be cheaper when compared to countries where the currency is USD/GBP/Euro/SGD etc its certainly not cheaper than Pakistan.
 
I think at this moment its very clear that Pakistanis are not welcome in India.Its unfortunate but it the truth.
 
How is in general the medical facilities in Pakistan? I am surprised that Pakistanis were coming to India for medical treatment. It's not we have the best medical facilities. If it's about being cheap compared to first world countries then I am sure these facilities would be there in Pakistan too

Cheap is not the right word - so please use low cost. It is certainly not low cost except for govt. hospitals.
However it costs lower than US/UK/Europe and medical tourism is really picking up in India.
For ex. 2 weeks trip to Rajasthan and Gujrat followed by Knee surgery.

I think the cost should be about the same as in pakistan and I heard many cases reported in newspapers where the hospitals subsidized for Pakistani patients. Having said that , on a darker side, there are hospital mafias that loot the public in the name of treatment in India.
 
Coming back to the topic, it is really sad that govt. has to make the process complicated for patients due to the recent flare up in relations. I hope this is just temporary and India will be able serve the friends from Pakistan much better than before.
 
Nothing wrong with it. Instead of asking them to treat our ill Pak should develop it's own medical institutions and hospitals.

Don't be bitter. Indian hospitals are far superior to ours, which is why quite a few wealthy Pakistanis go to India for complicated procedures, while absolutely no one comes from India to Pakistan for treatment. Pakistani doctors recommend India for certain procedures that are beyond their scope, such as liver transplant etc.

Our best private hospitals like the Aga Khan etc. are very good but no match for the best Indian hospitals. They are quite expensive as well, so if you can pay a little extra then opting for Indian hospitals is always the better options.

No need to be jingoistic about things you have no clue about. Before you question my credibility, I am a Pakistani Doctor and I know people who have gone to India for treatment and had nothing but good things to say about the Indian hospitals and doctors. Even internationally, they command more respect than our doctors/hospitals.
 
Ever heard of NDM-1 (New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase 1) an extremely resistant gram negative organisms, resistant to pretty much every antibiotic in the world and highly lethal that originated in India. India could be a poor man's UK or USA for treatment options but not sure if it can be regarded as a country known for its medical prowess. Not to say that Pakistan is any better.
 
Good for them. Pakistan needs to improve it's healthcare system, we can't brag about being a great country if Pakistanis have to go another developing country for medical treatment.

Medical tourism is a booming sector in India today. People from many countries in the world flock to Chennai and Hyderabad in particular for quality and inexpensive treatment.

It's disappointing that we're curtailing Pakistanis from accessing the same option purely from an economic standpoint.
 
All medical visas need to be vetted by Pakistan foreign office and certified to be genuine.

My cousin was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. He was initially treated in Bangladesh but then the local doctors suggested him to go to India. He goes to Chennai every few months now.

I don't agree with many of India's policies towards its neighbors but I am grateful to them in this aspect of providing good medical care to my cousin. While the upper classes goes to Singapore/Bangkok for medical treatments, a lot of middle and poor Bangladeshis regularly relies on India for cancer/transplants and other treatments.

In the past decade, Indian hospitals and doctors have affiliated with their Bangladeshi counterparts and Apollo now has one the largest hospital system in Dhaka.

They are really expensive and influential for Indian standards,but they defn are very consistent in their services esp in Chennai.

Don't know about others but for eyes Chennai is defn top notch with Sankara Nethralaya,easily the best in South Asia.

Absolutely. India are well within their right to restrict medical services to whomsoever they choose. Pakistanis should look to their own govt to provide such treatment or look for alternatives elsewhere.

No, Pakistan does not have that, and I will tell you why. It is not because Pakistanis are not smart. I am sure a guy like [MENTION=131701]Mamoon[/MENTION] would be among the best whenever given the opportunity.

Pakistan lags behind because of the following. From Washington Post:

This is also a reply to [MENTION=142256]Pakistanian[/MENTION] who asked "What has that got to do with anything" when I said Pakistan needs to get its military out of civilian industries.

Indian hospitals 40 years ago were of significantly inferior quality compared to today. At that time, due to the government's socialist policies, there were no large private hospitals. With economic liberalization there are these new large private hospitals like Max, Apollo etc. which are of superb quality.

You can take my post as being critical of Pakistan, or as someone who is trying to give good advice.
