Pakistan concedes 220 against Australia in Australia. India concedes 350 against England in India. The gulf between the two sides. Putting conditions to one side, India should be horrified at how far off they are.
Easily the worst thread I've seen in a while.
Dhoni and Yuvraj are still fine. Dhawan playing is a disgrace when he's just not performed in ages and players like Pant, Rahul and Iyer are so much better than him.
Much slower track, much bigger ground & basically a tired Aussie batting lineup. If this were a CT or WC game Aus would've scored at least 300 at the MCG & Eng wouldn't have reached 300 in Pune.India concedes 350

He should be playing IPL to come to radar of selectors.Lomror will play for India. Hard hitting spin bowling all rounder. Not Axar Patel level.. Similar to Maxwell, but a better bowler and probably a lesser batsman.
As for the thread itself, the philosophies of both teams are completely different and diametrically opposite.
Pakistan work on the principle of whatever you restrict us for, we'll make sure we restrict you more..
India work on the principle of whatever you score against us, we'll make sure we'll score more.
It's how it is and it's how it has always been. Tough to change these things overnight. So difficult to compare both teams as they operate on two different philosophies.

SIF - I have always maintained that unless the target is less than 200, you should always keep up with the asking rate when chasing in ODI's.
Our asking rate was about 4.4 at the start of the innings and hence we played at that rate throughout the innings barring the first two overs - when Hafeez played out a maiden.
Of course - our batting is suspect when chasing larger scores but there was nothing wrong with our approach today.
I would actually argue this is also effective in the early stages of ICC tournaments as wins always override any tiebreakers such as NRR etc. It is only when you have to chase a target to achieve a bonus point or boost your NRR should you change your approach.
There's no point trying to evaluate this sort of counter-factual.
If someone is asked to submit a project by Friday, and he does so on Friday evening, you can't conclude that he's incompetent because the project was easy. Or even more bizzarely, that the fellow who was asked to submit on Thursday is a better worker because he submitted quicker.
I think of no comparison between the pitches, but we have conceded over 400 runs twice in ODIs, we've conceded a 360, a 370 in UAE, 390 vs England.. and some 340s-350 here and there..
When did we chase them down???
When???
Though you have to admit that India can bundle out the opposition for sub-250 scores on occasion. Pakistan on the other hand can never chase 350 in an ODI format. Never.
He should be playing IPL to come to radar of selectors.
What you say is right. I have no disagreements there.
The issue however is not about what's the best way to win the game. The issue about taking an approach that would help Pakistan in a meaningful way.
Now as I said before, I am not asking them to chase it down in 35 overs or attack at certain stages risking a win. Not at all. What I am saying is that crawling to a win chasing 220 odd in 48 overs helps you win the battle but does nothing for you in terms of winning the war.
Pakistan must make a note of those who screwed up even during this chase and build a team accordingly.
You are not going to get teams out for 220 often so this being the right approach for Pakistan is a moot point.
I hope you see where I am coming from.
With all being said, to contain Aus and win against them in Aus is always special. More so when their team is at full strength bowling wise.
Wrong analogy for the situation.
In your analogy, submission of that particular project is the ultimate goal and success/failure is based on whether someone submitted it or not.
Same way, if you take winning an ODI against Aus chasing 220 as the ultimate goal, then Pakistan did fine.
But in the larger sense, its not the goal.
In other words, if a guy has to spend a long long time to complete a simple project and delivers it just before the deadline...then he is going to struggle to complete more complex projects that would require him to work faster.
You raise a good point but could have worded the thread better.
Or its also possible that people have discussed this issue at length and are not in mood for another long discussion about Pakistan's slow batting so the thread took a whole new direction.
Or its possible that people thought you were underplaying Pak's win against Aus (not that you did) with some faulty stats and went on a different direction.
Or its also possible that people feel what Pakistan did was the right thing to do against Aus and the end result for the game is what matters.
I just believe this scoring rate is not cut out for modern cricket, when you are playing 17 overs in dot balls out of your first 24 overs... you know there is just something wrong in your approach..
This approach will win you games when you have 220 to chase, but will never get you to win anything above 250, which has been the case for a lonng time for us..
The first game's total is a big example of how we crumbled while chasing, and mind you that wasn't a difficult total to chase either, Smith admitted post match that in both matches they have been well short of their expected targets
Pakistan concedes 220 against Australia in Australia. India concedes 350 against England in India. The gulf between the two sides. Putting conditions to one side, India should be horrified at how far off they are.
Easily the worst thread I've seen in a while.
The real reason the gulf in the two sides is clear is by the rankings. We are 3. You are 8.
Though you have to admit that India can bundle out the opposition for sub-250 scores on occasion. Pakistan on the other hand can never chase 350 in an ODI format. Never.
I checked the stats and you wouldn't believe this ... in the last 5 yrs we have restricted teams to under 250 on more occasions(25) than Pak(21) has :
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...pan;team_view=bowl;template=results;type=team
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...pan;team_view=bowl;template=results;type=team
Percentage is more important than absolute numbers. Also, who were the oppositions.I checked the stats and you wouldn't believe this ... in the last 5 yrs we have restricted teams to under 250 on more occasions(25) than Pak(21) has :
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...pan;team_view=bowl;template=results;type=team
http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...pan;team_view=bowl;template=results;type=team
The real reason the gulf in the two sides is clear is by the rankings. We are 3. You are 8.
Irrespective of this, the gulf between two side's approach is clearly visible.
Though you have to admit that India can bundle out the opposition for sub-250 scores on occasion. Pakistan on the other hand can never chase 350 in an ODI format. Never.
You are missing the point (deliberately?). On similar bowling friendly tracks India has restricted teams below 250 many times and won. Heck in 2008 we actually WON the CB series on low scoring pitches, defeating Australia in the best of 3 finals in Australia.
However, Pakistan has never chased 350 on any wicket. The comparison is valid
No one is saying Pakistan had to chase it in 35 overs.
They are saying Pakistan could have done better than 48 overs.
They are not saying Pakistan should have forced players to attack more and risked a win and crucial points.
They are saying make a note of those who screwed up even during this performance and make changes as the value of this win doesn't extend beyond the points Pakistan gets.
If the ultimate goal is to just get to CT or WC and play....sure status quo is fine.
If the ultimate goal is to win tourneys, action is required.
Then you have posts like these defending this thread.
If Pakistan can bowl teams out for 250 in England later this year and then scrape their way to a win in 50 overs, I certainly will not be complaining. Winning is what matters, not how you do it at the end of the day.
And of course, you won't pause and turn this around on India, will you? Will they be able to win the CT if their bowling keeps conceding 320+?
Recently concluded eng series proves otherwisePakistan does not need to chase 350 since they do not give away that magnitude of a score in the first place.
If Pakistan can restrict sides to less than 260 then I doubt they will be complaining much.
Maybe better comprehension can do a world of good. I have made enough posts in this thread for anyone to get what I am trying to say.
Sure....meet you in CT 2017.
We will see who restricts team better there.
The irony is really strong. India is the better ODI team, no one denies that. The issue is this garbage thread and then the garbage posts that are defending it. Pakistan batted the way they should have to chase that target down and we need more of this sensible batting rather than them doing something stupid to make a point.
^The opposite of it is true for India.
Chasing 350 on the back of superhuman Kohli doesn't mean the batting is all fine and dandy for CT 2017.
Bowling will get better for sure (Shami, Bumrah, Ash, Jaddu and 5th bowler along with Jadhav is rock solid in my opinion - even have Kuldeep as backup) but batting lineup needs to get sorted.
Why are people bashing the OP stating the truth?
.
When did we conceded 400 second time i know only that 444 game?I think of no comparison between the pitches, but we have conceded over 400 runs twice in ODIs, we've conceded a 360, a 370 in UAE, 390 vs England.. and some 340s-350 here and there..

Good post, one of the few sane good ones.
Can you first ask Ind to do what Pak bowling did? They DID NOT have to chase 350, so why should they play like they're chasing 350 AND score 220 in 35 overs!
But yeah Pak batting isn't good enough to consistently chase 300
Pakistans strength is bowling and Indias batting. Final result. Indias strength won them match. Pakistans did not. In summmary strength > weakness = victory
Highest score by team against Pakistan in ODIMaybe that was the 390 I was referring to.. I haven't checked on that

Pakistan win today was 1000 Times superior to indian team win.
Winning an ODI in australia against this kind of a bowling is no joke.
India can only dream of it, actually most teams will loose 5-0, 4-1 against this aussie team in Australia.
Beating England in asia in an ODI is really no achievment.

what a joke.
Indian win was million times better than pakistani win.
australia is playing poorly in last few matches and not in form.
India has beaten much better australian team in australia in CB series in 2008.
Also India chased down 331 in australia last time in ODI
India were 63/4 vs england and still chased down 350 EASILY which pakistanis cannot even think in dreams.
India has crossed 400 runs 5 times.

Pakistans strength is bowling and Indias batting. Final result. Indias strength won them match. Pakistans did not. In summmary strength > weakness = victory
The only thing strong in here is the refusal to understand others' points.
I too didn't compare India and Pakistan teams. This was a much needed win by Pakistan (who could have been 2-0 in the series with a better effort) but the manner of victory (huffing and puffing) won't help Pakistan.
That doesn't mean they have to slog to look "cool" but just that they have to take action to remove slow coaches cos you sure won't restrict teams to low totals like this often.
Last time you played ODis against England in England (few months back), your bowlers got massacred mercilessly and the batting was left dumb founded on what to do.
So all this "doesn't matter if we can restrict teams to low scores" is nothing but denial.
OP is actually making a good point (but didn't word it the best way) and just because others abuse him doesn't make his points wrong.
Just look at aus' bowling line up it shows how much they care about this odis, joke bowling line up and pak still struggle to chase 220.Much slower track, much bigger ground & basically a tired Aussie batting lineup. If this were a CT or WC game Aus would've scored at least 300 at the MCG & Eng wouldn't have reached 300 in Pune.
Think about that, the intensity in both the games isn't anywhere near the level at which Aus/India play when at their peak with Aus having a much higher ceiling.

Australia chasing this down well before the 45th over.. and we chased down 220 in the 47th..
not only that, we've gone on to make 260 from a promising position where 300 was possible, this sort of runs are not adequate for a pitch that has a minimum of 280 as runs required for victory.. I feel even 300 would've been difficult to defend on this wicket, we were well short..
When I say we should've chased the total down in the previous match earlier I was referring to something the Aussies did today, we slowed the game down even more to make it certain we chase it..
This is what a professional chase looks like, no doubt our batting let us down
we are stuck in the wrong decade
India also recovered from 25/3 and are well on their way to 300. Not sure whether we will be able to defend that or not but batting wise india and australia are ahead of others currently. England and South Africa are good too.
Dont think any comparison is left to be done after what happened today in last 10 overs in Pakistan and Indian innings
Dont think anyone was comparing in the real sense. The real topic of this thread was different.
Pakistan is not going to start scoring or chasing 300 consistently any time soon. Therefore, it makes sense for them to play according to their strengths which is to bowl teams out for scores under 270 and then hope the batting doesn't collapse.
Anyone who is suggested that Pakistan should have chased that total down in lesser number of overs is being totally unreasonable and deserves the flak that comes their way. This is a place where we haven't won in 12 years.
Pakistan are going to chase a similar target now. Today they have to start attacking from ball 1.
Last 2 years bowling stats in ODIs
India - 37 ODIs, 265 wickets, bowling average 31.4, ER 5.21, SR - 36.1
Pakistan - 41 ODIs, 254 wickets, bowling average 39.4, ER 5.49, SR - 43
We take more wickets per ODI at a better average, ER and SR! Thank you![]()
