Much slower track, much bigger ground & basically a tired Aussie batting lineup. If this were a CT or WC game Aus would've scored at least 300 at the MCG & Eng wouldn't have reached 300 in Pune.

Think about that, the intensity in both the games isn't anywhere near the level at which Aus/India play when at their peak with Aus having a much higher ceiling.

As for the thread itself, the philosophies of both teams are completely different and diametrically opposite.

Pakistan work on the principle of whatever you restrict us for, we'll make sure we restrict you more..

India work on the principle of whatever you score against us, we'll make sure we'll score more.

It's how it is and it's how it has always been. Tough to change these things overnight. So difficult to compare both teams as they operate on two different philosophies.

Good post, Pakistan team doesn't really have a plan B at this point, we need everything to fall exactly in place for us to win a match, that reduces the chance of winning by quite a bit..

The two games we won vs India in Aanay do Series was a prime example, we restricted India to low totals in both games, both low scoring ties.. complete contrast to what India usually plays like in home conditions

SIF - I have always maintained that unless the target is less than 200, you should always keep up with the asking rate when chasing in ODI's.

Our asking rate was about 4.4 at the start of the innings and hence we played at that rate throughout the innings barring the first two overs - when Hafeez played out a maiden.

Of course - our batting is suspect when chasing larger scores but there was nothing wrong with our approach today.

I would actually argue this is also effective in the early stages of ICC tournaments as wins always override any tiebreakers such as NRR etc. It is only when you have to chase a target to achieve a bonus point or boost your NRR should you change your approach.

There's no point trying to evaluate this sort of counter-factual.

If someone is asked to submit a project by Friday, and he does so on Friday evening, you can't conclude that he's incompetent because the project was easy. Or even more bizzarely, that the fellow who was asked to submit on Thursday is a better worker because he submitted quicker.

I think of no comparison between the pitches, but we have conceded over 400 runs twice in ODIs, we've conceded a 360, a 370 in UAE, 390 vs England.. and some 340s-350 here and there..

You are missing the point (deliberately?). On similar bowling friendly tracks India has restricted teams below 250 many times and won. Heck in 2008 we actually WON the CB series on low scoring pitches, defeating Australia in the best of 3 finals in Australia.

Percentage is more important than absolute numbers. Also, who were the oppositions.

A 5 match series against Zimbabwe is a good way to improve stats.

This.. Quality is the difference... They can improve after this match against AUS but the way Pakistani fans defend their side just after one game is hilarious... The only thing strong in here is the refusal to understand others' points.

I too didn't compare India and Pakistan teams. This was a much needed win by Pakistan (who could have been 2-0 in the series with a better effort) but the manner of victory (huffing and puffing) won't help Pakistan.

That doesn't mean they have to slog to look "cool" but just that they have to take action to remove slow coaches cos you sure won't restrict teams to low totals like this often.

Last time you played ODis against England in England (few months back), your bowlers got massacred mercilessly and the batting was left dumb founded on what to do.

So all this "doesn't matter if we can restrict teams to low scores" is nothing but denial.

Irrespective of conditions and team we have been horrible ODI batting side for last 6 years. It's a fact mostly we win because of our bowling and this is what happened yesterday but India mostly win due to their batting. Where were conditions when we were being beaten by every side travelling to UAE in one dayers? This same English side has smashed us in ODIs not too long ago so have the Aussies. We couldn't even win against a weaker NZ side and we were also white washed by Bangladesh at their home.

We should stop living in denial and accept that India is a far superior batting side which makes them a superior team compare to us.

Aus batting is fully dependent on Warner and Smith. You get them out, the rest will struggle to score 200.

England ODI team is much better than Aus ODI team. Aus has regressed severely both in ODI's as well as Tests.

Pakistans strength is bowling and Indias batting. Final result. Indias strength won them match. Pakistans did not. In summmary strength > weakness = victory

The only thing strong in here is the refusal to understand others' points.

I too didn't compare India and Pakistan teams. This was a much needed win by Pakistan (who could have been 2-0 in the series with a better effort) but the manner of victory (huffing and puffing) won't help Pakistan.

That doesn't mean they have to slog to look "cool" but just that they have to take action to remove slow coaches cos you sure won't restrict teams to low totals like this often.

Last time you played ODis against England in England (few months back), your bowlers got massacred mercilessly and the batting was left dumb founded on what to do.

So all this "doesn't matter if we can restrict teams to low scores" is nothing but denial.

Anyone who is suggested that Pakistan should have chased that total down in lesser number of overs is being totally unreasonable and deserves the flak that comes their way. This is a place where we haven't won in 12 years.

Strange thread. Btw we did win the game. Honestly I don't care whether we scored 220 in 47 overs or 27 overs. The run rate is not at stake, the win was. Of course overall Pakistan is a poor batting side in ODIs. We all know this but it's a strange example to highlight your point.

Think about that, the intensity in both the games isn't anywhere near the level at which Aus/India play when at their peak with Aus having a much higher ceiling.

Just look at aus' bowling line up it shows how much they care about this odis,joke bowling line up and pak still struggle to chase 220.
If aus would have play their atg bowling line up composed of:richardson,hastings,marsh,faulkner,maxwell,smith pak wouldn't even have scored 120.

Pakistan were 79/3 in first game, were all out for 176 in the first ODI chasing 268.. shows our batting depth, and our low standards..

India were 70 odd for 4 in their first ODI vs England.. went on to chase 350

Aus started slow and scratched around. But in the end, they chased 264 in 44 overs. Could have more too if they wanted to accelerate.

Its about mindset first.

Being happy to chase down 220 in 48 overs will never work in modern era. The goal is to work on improving that. And the first step starts with acknowledging that crawling your way to low scores is not acceptable.

We are a better bowling side than Pakistan especially considering that we bowl on super flat decks in India unlike the slow UAE decks
