India demolish Pakistan with 10-wicket win in the semi-final of the Under-19 World Cup

The difference is not only in skills.. but approach to learning and improvement in general. I saw Jaiswal caught hold of Tom Moody and Tyagi with Bishop.. Both spoke to them at length.. and conversation seemed about cricket. Not a single pakistan player approached anyone and just packed their bags and went off..
This attitude of willing to improve is very important.

Indian boys seem to have everything going for them in cricket. They know if they work hard.. they can earn lots of money.. like jaiswal, tyagi and bishnoi.. Its like a marker is set.
If you want to be a superstar like Tendulkar, Kohli, Sharma and earn millions and fame, work you a** off..
Meanwhile, Izaz Ahmed in interview... "Hamara jazba zyada hai, so we will win.. Indian team me jazba nahi hai"... Ye Jazba le doob gaya hai pakistan ko.

India is just too good and professional for our amateur's. They are well ahead Pak in every department and hungry for more. We are still stuck in the Imran, Akram and Younis era where as they have even left Tendulkar's days behind. The gap between the two sides is much greater then what is was in the 1990's era when Pak was ahead. These players talked up here on the "talent spotter" thread never do anything coz they are all rubbish when it is time to perform. Please stop talking our second rate youngsters up.

Also, none of these U-19 kids will get instant success in and full respect in their domestic teams.
This is just a start.. like passing out college and then going to a university. in the Ranji teams, they will have to work hard, Slog out for 2-3 years and then if they are really outstanding, they will get a look in. System has changed. Prithvi Shaw, if he had played back in 1989, he would immediately played for senior team.
Now even if Tendulkar had played, he would have to prove himself in atleast 5-8 Ranji Matches, and then only get a look in.. That is what has changed in the Indian cricket.

WI were more poorer than any cricket team in early days still they manage to get 2 World Cup and due to bad luck loss 1 final. Our first problem is players selection process followed by coaches, fitness, maturity,,,,
Yeah, it was all due to bad luck, lol.

if Pak players were that bad, they woldnt have made it to the Semi's - its just that they met a much better prepared team, however because it's India, the loss is amplified

Naa, Pakistan had the easiest path to the SF of all teams - first, they were in a relatively easy group (Ban, Scotland, Zim) plus their match against Ban got rained out. And in QF all they had to is beat Afg. If they had to meet teams like Australia, WI or NZ, probably would have been exposed earlier - the Pak U19 team definitely had a problem against short pitch bowling which others would have had exploited.

All credit to Indian youngsters for giving our soyboys an epic phainta. They looked calm and confident whereas our soyboys are as feeble as they come. Pathetic.

This loss is a blessing for Pakistan. You know exactly the depth of the talent you possess, weaknesses and flaws etc. and can work on them and improve. I just hope these wins don't go to the head of our youngsters especially with IPL contracts.

It is our pathetic cricket culture. We are rotten to the core.

Can't fathom this jazba, junoon.. frivolous talks nd jibes by pakistani players & team management before every india vs pak game.. they all go trumpet nd hoink .. making braggadocio statements before media ahead of the game.. only to end up with egg in face...

On the other side we see Indian maintaining total media silence.. refraining from any blabber nd unnecessary jibes at opposition..

Not long ago we had one bowler claiming to take 10 indian wickets.. even pakistani media fuels this jazba junnon talks before the game.. as if india is some gully team.. lol

Our players can’t identify our shortcomings and don’t understand the game, our fans (most of them) can’t do it either and will make shameful excuses, and our ex-players also fail to pinpoint the reasons for mediocrity and live in denial.

This cornered tigers and unpredictability mentality is a cancer for our cricket. We are not professional and methodical and then we cry when miracles don’t happen 99/100 times.

Among all the major cricket nations, our mentality and attitude towards the game is by far the worst. We are completely deluded.

Pakistan cricket can become a major force but it will require a complete transformation of our mentality and approach towards the game. Unfortunately, I don’t even see us taking the first step yet.

Can you attribute a collapse of six wickets for 20-odd runs to just lack of skill? It's not like India ripped apart our batting line-up. That run-out exemplifies the muddled thought process, enough said.

Although this Jaiswal kid is very good.

Bro our last 5 tailenders are really as bad as Mohinder Singh of India. Every time he used to come to the crease looks like coach has to force him to go. That guy was too scared to face any sort of bowler.

Yeah, it was all due to bad luck, lol.

I am not talking about today's match. Our players are no match to India and even 10 wickets justified as well.

India and Australia were far better to play final than England and NZ in 2017 World Cup.
Same way we were far better to win the cup in 1999 than 1992.
Luck is important.

Agree but the problem is in our domestic. Useless players like Shehzad, Kamaran, Umar, Faisal, Farhat, Butt still in high demand in our domestic. Most of our U19 players are selected due to connection rather than merit as usual. Even though players like Rohail, Haider, Haris, Qasim don't have any extra ordinary talent and maturity.

Exactly. We are at least 30 years behind if not more. India developed so much in 30 years and we still cannot even produce players like Inzi, Yousuf, Miandad, Wasim,Waqar, Zaheer, Younis, S Anwar.. categories. Current Indian team has far better than our batting legends and bowling wise they are almost there.
PCB needs to find professional coach with less talks. Most of our people in PCB are like politicians so as our local coaches. Only thing they know how to play with fans' emotion, sweet tall talks and boast but deliver nothing.

Is Afridi really serious or just being sarcastic?

Is Afridi really serious or just being sarcastic?

He is being sensible. It's an Under-19 team and youngsters need to be encouraged, not bashed left, right and centre.

Last time when Pakistan returned home after losing to India in the U19 World Cup, a 'journalist' asked the captain if he would like to apologise to the country for the loss. Hopefully, this type of rubbish doesn't happen again.

even senior team does not need to apologize to anybody.. from any country... its a sport at the end..

I grew up in India and I can tell you what happened 30 years ago. The government finally decided to get out of the economy.

What does have to do with cricket? As Mamoon says, it is about "mentality". When the government controlled the economy, everything was "sifarish".

Capitalism for all its faults, does reward effort. As chazam says "Indian boys seem to have everything going for them in cricket. They know if they work hard.. they can earn lots of money.. like jaiswal, tyagi and bishnoi.. Its like a marker is set. If you want to be a superstar like Tendulkar, Kohli, Sharma and earn millions and fame, work you a** off.."

At the end of the day, professionals will beat players who have to rely on "sifarish" to get into the team 9 times out of 10.

During the "sifarish" days we had Raj Singh Dungarpur running Indian cricket and the result was a long disaster. The Indian player with the best personality, Mohinder Amarnath rightly called the selectors "a bunch of jokers".

As government control of everything was ended, and people started getting rewarded for their work, the mentality changed in everywhere. Not only in the economy, but also in the people who were in charge of cricket.

Cricket is not an island. The people who run cricket (PCB for Pakistan, BCCI for India etc.) are also products of the dominant culture of the country. I will leave it to you to figure out the rest. Pakistan is your country. You can believe what I say, or you can think of me as the enemy trying to mislead you. Your choice.

Wasim khan and co have laid the foundations with changes to domestic structure and everything, to bair fruit it will take time.

India for a population of a billion mad cricketing fans, their success has been minimal to be honest even with hugh resources they have with bcci being a Hugh financial powerhouse.

The system that produces top notch talent is the Australian system, a country of 23 million which clearly shows their system is the system to implement.

Australia is not successful because of its system but because of its sporting culture. The Australian system of 6 F/C teams is not suitable for countries like India and Pakistan.

This flop idea of mimicking their system and implementing it in Pakistan will be reversed soon. It is not sustainable in the long-term because it has made hundreds of good domestic cricketers jobless.

Pakistan’s problem is its rotten mentality. Unless we change our mentality no system will work for us.

India’s success has not been minimal. They have consistently been among the top 3 sides in all formats for 15 years, they have been the number 1 Test side for 4 years and counting, they have won a World Cup in the last decade and they have produced ATG players.

However, they can be even more successful in Limited Overs cricket with better selection policies. In spite of all the abundance of talents, the Indian selectors still make some terrible calls.

Plus massive lack of skill, selection based on connection, unqualified people work as a coach (Yesterday our coach Ijaz took 2 hours warm up for our boys before the match which is utterly idiotic and unprofessional), former players with fake ego, unfit players in the domestic, teams gave more opportunity to useless players like Farhat, Butt, Kamran, Umar than younger players, weak mentality, poor quality pitch, media hype.....

But the source of all those problems is our rotten mentality.

When you are not deluded, when you understand your shortcomings, when you can accurately pinpoint your weaknesses, you can work towards redemption and take corrective steps.

We (players, ex-players, fans, PCB officials) do not have the capacity to take an accurate measure of things.

I will give you an example:

Today, the vast majority of our players, ex-players, fans and PCB officials genuinely believe that we are the best T20I side in the world.

That speaks volumes about their lack of cricket IQ and their shambolic understanding of the game.

Cricket in the subcontinent runs in everybody's blood, so the sporting culture has its credibility but mainly their structure is spot on regardless of having aussy rules footy, rugby league and union which are all major sports in Australia in a population of 23million, now this is what i call success

A population of A billion plus with cricket as the major sport indias success has been overwhelmingly poor compared to Australias.

Pakistan issues have been highlighted before, a lack of international cricket in the country has been the sole reason of the decline of the standards even though with all the set backs they've had in the last decade they've won the world t20 09, top icc test rankings, champions trophy success all with clear and major issues domestically cricket wise and lack of world class facilities, conclusion is wasim khan has implemented a structure that will enable to see world class talent having a clear path way through to the top which already is bearing the fruits of the quality young fast bowlers that are coming through and in sha Allah will do in the future

It was literally a walk in the park for India’s U-19 team. With Yashasvi Jaiswal hammering an unbeaten century, the colts defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets to reach a third consecutive U-19 World Cup final.

As the players celebrated the win, the team’s head coach, Paras Mhambrey, admitted that he did not expect such an one-sided semifinal clash.

“Honestly, no one will (expect this), especially when it is a semifinal game with Pakistan. It’s a tough opponent. What we definitely knew was that it will be a tough and competitive game, what we made out of it was different,” he told Sportstar from Potchefstroom late on Tuesday.

In a free-wheeling chat, the seasoned coach spoke about the team’s preparations, Sunday’s final and the road ahead.

An India-Pakistan clash is always exciting, but this turned out to be an one-sided affair for the Indian team. Did you expect such an easy win in the semifinal?

No. Honestly, no one will (expect this), especially when it is a semifinal game with Pakistan. It’s a tough opponent. What we definitely knew was that it will be a tough and competitive game, what we made out of it was different. But honestly, I think the way things panned out is just that you know…

You want you prepare in a certain manner and every team does that. And that sense of preparation was nothing different. But obviously the way it turned out, the credit must be given to the to the guys who really executed the plans and eventually finished the game off. Obviously, the bowlers did the job for us. It was definitely a good wicket to bat first. I thought it was a 250-plus wicket for sure, and in that sense to bundle Pakistan out for 172 -- the bowlers did really well.

Everyone contributed so there was no let back from there and then you know, the low-scoring games can sometimes can be tricky. But that’s where the openers (Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyaansh Saxena) showed a lot of maturity in terms of way they handled things and the way they progressed. I am pretty happy to see that really.

The youngsters have been doing well, but then, a semifinal is always challenging. So, after losing the toss, what was your advice to the players?

I think one thing we definitely discussed is to focus on what we could control. Toss was one of the things that you can’t control. Even if we had won the toss, and maybe if you look at the other way around, had we batted, I think we still had to play well. We still had to bat well and play the first 10-over Powerplay and then progress accordingly. The bottom line was you need to play well, and you need to be consistent in all the roles that you play. And that was a key. That’s the general discussion we had. We can't control the toss, but you need to execute, that was all the focus. So we had to play well, that was the key.

This has been a tournament to remember for the bowlers. What, do you think, has worked for them so far?

We all have played altogether for a long time. The preparation started a year and a half back. So, in that sense these guys have played together a lot, understand each other, and very importantly, in terms of the way we progress, they adapted to their role. They understand what their role is in the team. And I don't really have to intervene so much saying that, ‘Oh, this is what you need to do.’ I know the kind of discussions we had over the period. Here, individually as a player and as a team, everyone is very clear what roles they need to play and what is required when. That’s where their smartness and intelligence comes in. The effort that they put in comes in. As a support staff, we can always say a lot of things and it ends there. But to go out there and to be able to execute them under pressure as well -- the credit has gone to the boys. They are still 18-year-old or 19-year-old guys, but in terms of maturity, they are far ahead of their age. That's very important.

You spoke about the team bonding and that has been quite evident in the tournament so far. Even though Priyam Garg is the captain, the others have ensured that they back him well. If one player has a bad day, the others have stepped in and delivered. How do you see this?

It's an effort made by every individual. It just doesn't happen something. What works kind of in their favour is that we played a lot of cricket together. We played a lot of tournaments together, it's just not not the first-class cricket, club cricket or domestic cricket that they play. After we finalised on this kind of combination, we knew what were the numbers and who were the players we're looking at. We played a lot of cricket. These guys have toured England, we played against Afghanistan, South Africa, so there was lot of cricket that we played with each other. In that sense, you know the person as well, you start understanding the person very well.

You also understand what that person -- Priyam as a captain -- expect out of that individual in the team. That’s where all the team spirit comes in, that’s where all that the camaraderie comes in. That, over the period, we have reached a stage where these guys have a belief among each other and they understand that in any given time, any one of them is good enough win the game. They have done it in the past. Every individual out here has at some point or the other contributed to the winning of the team. That really matters. Everyone believes that, you know, I might have a bad day, but they are the guys who can win the game. The team doesn’t depend on one or two individuals. It depends on all the 15 members.

You were associated with the U-19 side which won the World Cup in 2018, under the captaincy of Prithvi Shaw. So, how different is this side from the last, in terms of skills? This team seems to have more all-rounders…

I think in terms of the team, every year, every team is different. So, it's not easy for anybody to say, that we had this or that team had this. Every team has challenges. That lot (of 2018) also had different challenges. Obviously, we had quality players in that team as well, which we do in this team as well. First and foremost, that's what we've done over the period is, not compare what the earlier team had. The focus is on what we have right now. We have a good combination of good all-rounders and that actually is a positive. You have Atharva (Ankolekar), who can bat and bowl. Shubhang Hegde is one of the other guys who's a spinner who can bat eventually. Sadly, he hasn’t got a game (after the opener against Sri Lanka). We have got quality fast bowlers.

In terms of three guys that are playing right now have a good backup in terms Vidya (Vidyadhar Patil) coming in as a fast bowler. So at any given stage, if we think that we need to replace any one of them, we know that Vidya will be able to turn up on the ground and deliver. A lot of these guys play a lot of cricket. Someone like Priyam has played a lot of first-class cricket. He has performed at that level. Yashasvi (Jaiswal) has done that. He recently got a double-hundred. So, all of these guys have played first-class cricket as well. So in terms of the experience, they have the experience. That’s helping the team really well, in terms of the combinations. It sometimes become a challenge if you don't have players to get into the right combination. That challenge is not here. We have the added advantage of having all-rounders in the middle-order, so we can really go with two quality spinners you. Ravi (Bishnoi) comes in there and he can bat, which he has done in the last game. That really balances the team.

This is also a big challenge for you as a coach. In 2018, Rahul Dravid was the coach of the side, and now, the responsibility is on you. How different is it without Dravid around?

This process is something, which obviously I have worked with Rahul for so many years. And that's something which we want to continue from where he left. That’s a lot of process that has gone into it, it’s just the way we want to play this game. The focus has never been just winning, the emphasis is not winning on this big for this level. And I think that's very clear. In terms of what form of communication we have a conversation we have with every individual, the pressure on them is not to win. What we want to take them out is a learning from this level. Because once they move on to the next level, it is going to be a bigger challenge for them.

First-class cricket is challenging and it’s going to be tough, and that's what we want to pass on. And that's what we did with the last batch and similarly that’s what we are doing with this batch as well. We want to pass on all the knowledge. Once they they move on from this, and enter the open, they can take something with them to fall back on. Whatever learning they had from here in whatever manner that we can. That’s the process we are following. That’s what Rahul did and we are also following the same process. The boys have really adapted to it, they have understood it and really reciprocating to it.

Bangladesh and New Zealand will lock horns in the second semifinal on Thursday. Ahead of Sunday’s final, what is going to be the strategy for the Indian team?

We are ready for both (the teams). We played New Zealand in the league game. We also have played Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. It’s a World Cup final, it’s going to be an important game for everyone. So, nothing is really going to change. We will still follow the process, the way we practice. We have our own ways to do it and we will focus on that. Right now, we want the boys to enjoy for the next two days. They really worked hard for this win. The preparation has been hard for the last three days. So it's important for them to to enjoy this. And let this win soak in. Just relax for a couple of days and then take it on from there.

CHENNAI: Process is an overused word in cricket. But as India’s U-19 side marched into a third successive World Cup final, courtesy a massive 10-wicket win over Pakistan in the semifinal in Potchefstroom, one couldn’t stop attributing their success to the process they have been following. They are just one victory away from lifting a record fifth title and even if they don’t win, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kartik Tyagi, Ravi Bishnoi, Sushant Mishra have ensured that their journey will be followed keenly in the coming years.

Winners in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018 and finalists in 2006 and 2016, there is a reason why India keep churning out sides that are so consistent at this level. Even more so after the junior side was handed over to Rahul Dravid before the 2016 edition. Their planning starts and ends with each edition of the World Cup. They spend the first couple of years scouting talent. They pick around 45, who feature in domestic tournaments and other exposure trips before the talent pool is pruned to around 20. They are then sent on overseas tours apart from featuring in bilateral series at home.

Take this team for instance. Since Prithvi Shaw’s side won the previous edition in 2018, the current bunch has featured in 36 matches, winning 27 and losing only eight. One was washed out. “It is fully down to the process and the system we follow,” India U-19 head coach Paras Mhambrey told Express from Potchefstroom, after the win over Pakistan. “Rahul started this and until a year-and-a-half back, he was handling it. Since then, we have only taken it forward. It comes down to the basics: scouting, nurturing and developing. This is what we have been following over the last six years and after every edition, whether we win or don’t, we emphasise on the work lying ahead of them,” said Mhambrey.

While this was India’s 11th successive win in the U-19 World Cup, Mhambrey attributes this domination to exposure. Before the tournament, India played South Africa in a bilateral series, where players were rotated so that they are game ready. By the time the tournament began, they were acclimatised to the conditions, as highlighted by Jaiswal after his unbeaten 105 on Tuesday. The opener has shelved aggression and preferred to play the waiting game on wickets where bowlers have a chance. “We keep telling the boys that forget the title.

That isn’t why we are here. At this level, our focus is on development. Success at this level doesn’t mean you graduate to the next level. So the boys know what their task is. That is the culture we have built, with emphasis on how to take their talent to the next level. It isn’t easy for players to buy those ideas because ultimately they want to win, but when we put it across to them, they grasp it,” said Mhambrey, who has Hrishikesh Kanitkar (batting) and Abhay Sharma (fielding) as support staff.

So far in this tournament, they have ticked all the boxes. Their bowling is amongst the most potent, fielding has stood out and batsmen have delivered when needed. They haven’t shown weaknesses that may come in their way of lifting the title on Sunday. But Mhambrey is guarded. “Like I said, winning doesn’t matter. That is a bonus for the hardwork we have done over the last four years. Our biggest win will be if these players make a name for themselves at the international level. That will be our biggest trophy.”

brief scores
Pakistan U-19 172 in 43.1 ovs (Nazir 62, Haider 56; Mishra 3/28, Bishnoi 2/46, Tyagi 2/32) lost to India U-19 176/0 in 35.2 ovs (Jaiswal 105 n.o, Saxena 59 n.o).

Potchefstroom: India captain Priyam Garg rated their bowling attack as the best in the tournament after the colts strolled to the final of the U19 World Cup with a 10-wicket win over Pakistan here. In what is the first ever 10-wicket win in knockouts of the U19 World Cup, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century as he and opening partner Divyaansh Saxena helped India chase down a target of 173 without losing a wicket.

Pakistan were skittled out for 172 and then it was a cakewalk for Jaiswal who remained unbeaten on 105 with Saxena not out on 59 as India won in 35.2 overs scoring 176.

"It is just one step closer to what we want to achieve. "I think our bowling attack is the best in this tournament. Our quicks bowl 140+ and our spinners do complement them really well," said Garg after the victory.

On the batters he said: "It isn't the first time that the openers are playing like this. They have been doing it for the last one year, they come from the same state, they understand each other and have good understanding while running between the wickets.

"I would like to focus on the same processes and treat the finals like just another game." They will now face either Bangladesh or New Zealand whose semi-final match will be played on Thursday. The final is scheduled to be played on Sunday.

Fans in sub continent need to be a bit reasonable. Guys with good action and bowling in 130s are prospects. Speeds do increase as they hit mid 20s and you will see several boys getting into 140 range.

True, it is ridiculous to go after young kids.

This is ridiculous why so much importance is given to u19 teams. They are all young guys and still have to struggle for long to get into any national teams. It is bad to show our rivalries on the kids. Let them enjoy the game and learn from other teams culture etc. it feels like India Pakistan rivalry is unnecessarily complicating it. Don’t feed fuel as fans to this bashing. I am proud as an indian for the boys in blue. At the same time I wish all Pakistanis to be proud of thier team. Irrespective of win or loose we should encourage them for thier future and also country’s future.

I think the day Pakistani Cricket team becomes professional in their selection, practice, fielding , batting and bowling there would be sea of change in results. I dont know why they cannot realise their issues, talent is there but there i no nurturing.

Secondly the fans are very weird, just one bad match they bay for blood. I know that people are passionate but they need to be reasonable, new guys need to be given more time, they are after all human. Further the discarded players keep coming back everytime which makes no sense whatsoever.

NZ may not have many talented players but always punch above their weight, their professionalism is so good. Everyone can learn from them.

To be honest your mentality of constantly criticizing, wrist slitting does not lead to anywhere either.

Chicken-lover chews on batsmen

Sushant Mishra may do “nautanki” at home over having vegetables like any 19-year-old, but on the field he transforms into a bouncer-firing speed gun.

The 19-year-old left-arm pacer from Ranchi, who also bats in the lower order, claimed 3 for 28 against Pakistan in the first semi-final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup at the JB Marks Oval at Potchefstroom in South Africa on Tuesday, making his doting parents Samir and Mamta proud.

“We feel proud that India made it to the finals and Sushant had a role to play in it but real happiness is that we walloped Pakistan,” father Samir Mishra, who works at a private firm in the capital, told The Telegraph over phone on Wednesday.

Sushant is a very friendly and helpful person, the father said.

“He sometimes does nautanki (drama) at home when his mother (Mamta) insists that he eat more chapatis and vegetables. But otherwise our son is a good boy. He even donates his cricket kit (with essentials such as bowling shoes, gloves, pads and bat) to cricketers who can’t afford it. I am sure he will stay the same after he returns from South Africa. Cricket means everything to him,” Samir said.

Sushant has donned the India colt jersey in the past, including the one-day tri-series with England and the ACC Asia Cup in Sri Lanka both last year.

“But he has no airs. He’ll come home and answer his Class XII board exams,” laughed his father, adding that Sushant scored 80 per cent in the CBSE Class X board exams from DAV Pundag.

“We put no pressure on him, be it studies or cricket, because we trust him,” said Samir, who hails from Darbhanga in Bihar originally but settled at Shalimar Bagh Colony in Pundag.

The only indulgence? “We bought Sushant a bike last year. He needed to ride to the JSCA stadium in Dhurwa, some 7km from our home, for practice and workshops,” the father said.

Mamta said her son

loves paneer and chicken the most.

“He’ll happily have them every day. But as he is a fast bowler, I insist he Sushant should have more chapatis and vegetables. Then there’s a mini-war at home,” Mamta laughed. “But he eats half-a-dozen eggs, fish and sometimes mutton to build strength for fast bowling,” she added.

The parents said they hoped someday their son would represent the senior Indian cricket team.

“We’ve raised him well. He’s also doing his best. The rest is his destiny,” said his mother.

On his hobbies, Mamta said Sushant was too obsessed with cricket to think of much else. “He only watches cricket channels on TV. He very rarely catches a movie, again with his cricketer friends. He loves to eat home-cooked food,” she said.

Sushant’s coach Satyam Roy, who runs a cricket camp at Harmu ground, said the boy was a serious cricketer who bowls at a speed of 140-plus kmph.

“Sushant has a good out-swinger and tricky bouncers. He also bowls a good slower ball. His in-swinger needs perfection. I am optimistic that he would be in the senior Indian side in three years. I hope

he performs in a lot of Ranji and zonal tournaments,” he added.

What’s Sushant’s USP? “His speed,” said the coach.

The talented seamer emerged as the highest wicket-taker while playing for Jharkhand Under-23 side in the Board of Control for Cricket in India one-day tournaments in 2018-19. Sushant claimed 18 wickets in 7 matches.

He was among the bunch of medium-pacers who attended a camp conducted by Australian great Glenn McGrath at the JSCA International Stadium last year.

The boy has also paid heed to pep talks by former Team India skipper M.S. Dhoni on the importance of mental strength and fitness, as well another former skipper, Rahul Dravid, on the power of staying positive, his coach said.

India is reaping the rewards of investing in their grass roots, domestic cricket and by making sure their top legends are giving back to the academies, domestic teams and U-19 teams. In contrast the PCB refused to hire YK, Yousaf, Saqlain for various different reasons and instead went with Ijaz Ahmed. Tbh i don't entirely blame the PCB either, the cricketing fans of the country are totally fickle as well who wake up and smell the coffee after the team gets exposed in the end after every major tournament

An inevitable outcome. There is no comparison between Pakistan and India at any level anymore.

Test Cricket is the pinnacle of the game. Test Cricket in England in particular is the pinnacle of the game. You get excellent crowd attendances and the Dukes ball often produces a good even contest between bat and ball. England is widely regarded as the home of our great game. Below I compare India and Pakistan in Test Cricket in England over their last 8 Test Matches on these shores over the last decade. It makes for fascinating reading. Neither side have met in Test Cricket since the Indian Premier League started and we have had 12 seasons of that now. It has been that long. However, we can therefore compare them through other ways. And their recent Test Match results in England is one way of doing that. England is picked out of all places because it is the home of the game as mentioned previously. And after all, it is the chosen host country of the inaugural World Test Championship final in the English home summer after next.

Pakistan’s Last 8 Test Results in England.

Leeds Test 2018 = Lost.

Lord’s Test 2018 = Won.

Oval Test 2016 = Won.

Edgbaston Test 2016 = Lost.

Old Trafford Test 2016 = Lost.

Lord’s Test 2016 = Won.

Lord’s Test 2010 = Lost.

Oval Test 2010 = Won.

India’s Last 8 Test Results in England.

Southampton Test 2018 = Lost.

Trent Bridge Test 2018 = Won.

Lord’s Test 2018 = Lost.

Edgbaston Test 2018 = Lost.

Oval Test 2014 = Lost.

Old Trafford Test 2014 = Lost.

Southampton Test 2014 = Lost.

Pakistan have won four of their last eight Test appearances in this country whereas India have lost seven of their last eight. Some may argue that India’s current number 1 ranking in Test Cricket is unjustified given their abysmal track record in England of losing 11 of their last 14 Tests in England. Doing well in Test Cricket in England is often the barometer in judging Test Match success as it is such a unique and special place to play Test Cricket given the challenges the varying conditions present and the high profile interest and coverage the format attracts in this part of the world. You want to do well here more than perhaps anywhere else in the world as a visiting Test cricketer or team.

what about Pakistan's performances in australia vs India's?
England is not the pinnacle of test cricket. tbf last rime india toured toss made a huge diffefence. Its not an even contest between bat and ball. The team that bats first always has a significant advantage.
pakistan are good exponents of swing bowling and they rightfully have superior numbers vs England. Indians play bounce better.
But yes india do need to win away in England to be considered as one of the greatest teams of all time alongside the Australians of 2000. It's a flaw on their resume for now. India also need a win vs n.z away.

No Warner or Smith.
No Test at the Gabba.
No Day Night Test.
3 significant reasons on the 2018-19 tour for India which worked hugely in their favour.

India didn't win any of the last 5 global cricket events:
2014 World T20.
2015 World Cup.
2016 World T20.
2017 Champions Trophy.
2019 World Cup.

Only won 2013 Champions Trophy in a 20 over lottery type final.
2011 World Cup was at home.
2007 World T20 is when some felt T20 was a bit of a hit and giggle tournament.

Choked in Women's Cricket as well: 2017 final and 2018 T20 semi final.

And lost 8 of their last 9 Test series in SENA.

That is poor given their financial standing in the game.

India are not the benchmark for Pakistan.

Should it be in a particular month and in a particular ground too? Should it be when its cloudy..?

Pak are not even the last team to win a series in England, Sri Lanka is and before that India.. so much arrogance for drawn series

Pak just won in Windies after all these years, we won in 1971 and have been winning since 2005.

At this point winning matches in India is the toughest job. Not England. That si something that Pakistan doesn't have to worry about. Even a much lower ranked side Pakistan has drawn the test there. WEest Indies has drawn the test there. India's lack of win was more to do with unavailability of players during various phases of the last series. Bumrah missed 2. Bhuvaneswar missed the entire series after hsi solid performance in SA. Pandya 1 test. Pujara 1 test. Plus two out of form openers. India lost 5 tosses. Despite all that India atleast in two tests India was in advantageous position to win on day 4. It is a lot closer than margin suggests.

So it is not that hard to win in England. It is much much harder to win in India at this point.

England in 4 or 5 match series since 2011 at home.
Won 4-0 vs India 2011.
Won 3-0 vs Australia 2013.
Won 3-1 vs India 2014.
Won 3-2 vs Australia 2015.
Drew 2-2 vs Pakistan 2016.
Won 3-1 vs South Africa 2017.
Won 4-1 vs India 2018.
Drew 2-2 vs Australia 2019. (Post World Cup hangover)

SA won in 2012, but was a 3 game series due to the Olympics.

England's last 11 series at home: Won 7 series and drawn 4 series.
Both India and Pakistan visited twice in that period.
India lost two series in that and Pakistan drew their two series.

We would have won in the West Indies in 2005 and 2011 had it been a 3 match series. Finally played a 3 match series in West Indies in 2017 and won. Tour there in 2021 next.

West Indies lost 2-1 on their last trip in 2017.
England since 2009 in home Test series = Won 16 series, Drawn 4 series, Lost 2 series.
Pakistan are the only team in this to have two series without a series defeat in that time period when touring England.
England have lost at least 2 home Tests every summer for 6 years running, but they hardly lose or draw series at home.

Plus to win a Test Match in England in May like Pakistan did in 2018 is an astonishing achievement, hardly ever happens. The earliest in the season a team has been defeated in a Test in England. India could never do that.

so? india also had no Mayank until the third test. No Shaw either. we had 2 dud openers.

india won fair and square. check kohli's record when he wins tosses. it's perfect. India would have won that series regardless.

Look at it historically as well. pakistam have always been perennially terrible in australia. India conversely have draw a few times and came close to beating them in 08 which was a farce due to all the controversial decisions that went against india. Only God knows how many times they have cheated prior to 2000 when there was no drs, no ball umpires etc.

India are not the benchmark for Pakistan.

india were the first team to win the WC at home. WC is WC.

india have been the best test team for the past 42 months. Already ahead of Graeme Smith's south africa. india post 2000 have dominated test cricket in 2 phases where they reached number 1 for a total of about 70 months. Second only to australia.

yes india choked in many Icc tournaments but what is this financial standpoint you are speaking off?

It only started post ipl. so about 2008 is when indian board of cricket really became a powerhouse from a financial standpoint.

in the 2010 era post ipl, they have won the most games in odi and test. Winning a tournament that happens once every 4 years isn't necessarily the benchmark when india have always prioritized test cricket over odi. Especially under kohli, India want to dominate test cricket and have done so for the past 4 years.

Drawn 4 series lost 2 series. That is not exactly a domination lol Even against Australia they escaped due to umpiring howler. Are you implying if India meets Pakistan in England Pakistan will beat India?

We are going backwards where as India is going forward yet our PM will keep telling the world of the amazing talent in Pakistan. Indian Cricket psychology has changed altogether from the days of Srinath, Jadega and Mongia. The Indian fitness levels are now on par with the Aussies if not better where as we are still stuck with problems like Umer Akmal being overweight or someone having an illegal action. Once such problems were also common with the Indian team until they permanently nipped it in the bud with tough decisions made by their board. Indian Cricket as a whole now runs on auto pilot like a well oiled machine from the U-19 to the first team, by comparison we continue to be riddled with old age problems coz our game is being run my nepotism and unprofessional s. All we can do is talk a good game where as India walk the walk. We are not even second best in world Cricket let alone being even close to the best. In footballing terms India is like Liverpool where as we are Man Utd.

now you are being dramatic. india are elite. Very good/great team. pakistan is rebuilding but they have strong core and great potential future bowling greats. pakistam just need to Improve their fitness level and diet. Once those issues are sorted out, I have no doubt pakistan will be top 2/ 3 in all formats.

We have been rebuilding for the last 20 years or something. I can't see any future greats at all in our team other then Babar being a decent player. Our fitness has also been a problem for the last ten years that we never attend to. Same old excuses from our fans I am afraid.

At Lord's in the World Test Championship final Pakistan will certainly fancy their chances. Lord's has been a fortress for Pakistan:

Won Test in 2016.
Won Test in 2018.
Beat South Africa and Bangladesh at Lord's in the World Cup.

Pakistan have a far superior record than India at Lord's in Test Cricket.

Hope we find out on 10th June 2021 in the WTC final.

Cricket played in England is the highest standard of Test Cricket. Pakistan have outperformed India in Tests in England. Their preparations have been significantly better for those tours in 2016 and 2018 respectively. For that Pakistan fans are very proud.

babar
rizwan
shaheen
naseem
shinwari/rauf

that's 5 quality players already. That's a strong core. I don't see any reason to be pessimistic. Remember shaheen is ? 21
naseem is? 20? rauf 25.

Pakistan will always produce quality fast bowlers. They have upheld the tradition by introducing these new quicks. After a long time, we are seeing some real quality fast bowlers emerge from Asia.

India have great bowlers but apart from bumrah, rest are all 30 ish. So patience is required.

India went through a terrible phase in 2012 when we lost 9 test matches in a row due to an ageing squad, poor selections and nepotism. We turned everything around and have been number 1 for the past 4 years now.

No reason why a young team with serious potential like pakistan can't become a powerhouse like they used to be in the 90s.

tyron_woodley

The players you mentioned are inconsistent and yet to be tried against the very best. None of them are really express fast either. What we need more then bowlers are batsmen of the highest quality, i don't see any being developed.

Until we produce top quality batsmen I don't see much to celebrate I am afraid.

Cricket played in England is the highest standard of Test Cricket. Pakistan have outperformed India in Tests in England. Their preparations have been significantly better for those tours in 2016 and 2018 respectively. For that Pakistan fans are very proud.

Your strengths against one team will not get translated against another team. India was in transition when they toured England last time. Lost many players due to injury. Still the tests were very very close. Could have been easily 3-2 in favor of India. Hardest place to win a test in the world is India followed by Australia. India's record in Australia have been more than decent compared to other teams since 2000. Most of the wins by England were scrapped wins. Despite the stats England is the easiest place for other sides to win among SENA. India registered their first series win in England in 1970s. In the 80s India destroyed England in England. Even in 2007 India beat England in England. So we never consider ENgland as an ultimate place to win a series. Australia is the toughest place to win a series not England.
They just ran into chaotic Indian side a couple of times. In a 5 match series Pakistan would definitely lose to England. If India had played only 2 match series they would have also drawn a test series.

The players you mentioned are inconsistent and yet to be tried against the very best. None of them are really express fast either. What we need more then bowlers are batsmen of the highest quality, i don't see any being developed.

Until we produce top quality batsmen I don't see much to celebrate I am afraid.

yes 2 more babars. just need to replace younis and misbah.
