India fans in denial after their 180 run loss to Pakistan?

Coming from a Pakistani myself, this is honestly one of the lamest threads ever.

What do you expect the Indian posters to say? Yes, they lost. I see most of them accepting that fair and square, just like Kohli. Pakistan was the better team on that day. In the tournament, they were the most improved side, but not the best. We still have issues with our batting. Just two crushing games (semi finals and finals) do not erase the problems we have.

Anyone saying Pakistan is the best team, I'm sorry. India is miles ahead in terms of stability and consistency. It feels like Pakistan has a settled side because everyone's fired in the last two games. It's just going to take one more game where Azhar/Hafeez/Malik fail and you'd be calling for their heads. And then what? Who do you replace them with?

Honestly, if you are expecting Indians to stop defending themselves after this loss, get over yourself. They are by far a better team than us. One game isn't going to change that.

Having said that, I really do hope this tournament gives Pakistan the belief that they are on the right track. Keep playing like this, with this intensity, wit this self belief, and we should be quite ready for the World Cup in 2019.

Well said ... but the thing is if any Indian poster said the same things you said in this post then it would amount to being in Denial . That tells me that a lot of Pak fans want Indian fans to start crying only then perhaps the victory will taste a lot lot more sweeter .... they want the proverbial foot to be on the other shoe ... revenge mentality at its primal best. And I understand it very well given that its taken decades to win against India in a major ICC match and in between there are a string of really soul crushing defeats that have made them really bitter. Quite understandable.

No excuses at all. Pakistan were the better teambith in terms of ability and more importantly strategy as well. Kohli and the management were dumb to field first while paying 2 finger spinners. Anyway I'm glad we lost otherwise our weaknesses would have been glossed over. Time for some fresh blood.

DUDE! You're saying you're not in denial BUT you're using the same dumb excuse as I mentioned in my OP. You are thinking if Kohli decided to bat first you would have magically scored 400 and won. Ummm no. We dismissed the last 3 teams for under 250 (all of whom batted first). Make it last 4 teams now.

I agree most Indian fans have been gracious, many genuinely.

The problem is no Indian fan thought India could lose, let alone by such a huge margin.

It's not too bad when youre team is the underdog and loses by a few runs or a wicket or two but when you are odds on favourites and are demolished like a minnow, in a final, cant be easy to take.

This. Just look at when Fakhar was caught behind by Dhoni before the no ball was determined. Indians hardly celebrated. They thought this was going to be a walk in the park and Pakistan would hardly score 200 runs.

Like me most of Indian fans are absolutely gutted by this defeat.
And they are more upset at Indian team then anything, because of way match went after pre match arrogance.
Pakistan outplayed us completely and comprehensively.

serious denial...they're discussing things like..."Did Pakistan win this game or did our batsmen throw it away" on their channels. You need be super thick to think you threw the game...every single batsmen in the top 6 tried to stick it out and was comprehensively gotten out by the Pakistan bowlers. Fact is Indians were drowning in pride before the game and only a few have the decency to accept that they overestimated themselves and severely underestimated Pakistan. When your ex captain and head of Bengal cricket says things like "We are a far superior team and Pakistan have no chance to win"...then you can expect the average Indian cricket fan to be equally delusional about their team...this is a guy who played International Cricket for over 2 decades and thinks the Indian team was invincible. hilarious.

I won't generalise the Indian fans but the Indian media has been laughable with some of their analysis.

They were incredibly arrogant and smug in their predictions.

Eh no it hasn't taken Pakistan decades to beat India in an ICC tournament. Just a reminder Pakistan beat India in the 2009 ICC encounter as well as the one in 2004 - I was there at Edgbaston and it was an unbelievable experience.
So be gracious in defeat if you expect people to be gracious when they win.

Well said. Goes to show how good that Pakistani bowling performance. No chance for India. NO CHANCE.

And they were right. If the finals were best of three, India would win easily. Can't believe a trophy is awarded through a fluke win.

That double wicket strike by Shoaib Akhtar in 2004 of Kaif and Yuvraj ;).

You always jealous refti.

Why Best of Three? When did you see soccer world cup final best of three????

When did you see best of three Superbowl final???
Hockey world cup final?
Bangla League final???

if there were best of three final 1983, India wouldn't have there first world cup...

Of course Indian current team is better than Pakistan... But that doesn't mean now we should put best of three in all supports.

With PSL in Pakistan, Pakistan like 90s will be back soon ......

Even my girlfriend thinks best of three final is a crap idea....

Ohk. I'm sure denial. Btw if you can read nowhere did o mention that India would have won. I said our strategy was dumb when we chose to bowl first that's all dude :)

India played WI 3 times in that 1983 Worldcup and won twice.

They were saying the same thing about the "best of one" final as well, we all saw how that panned out. India received the BIGGEST phainti that has ever been received in the history of tournament finals. That is your level. You will continue to receive phaintis. Come on our level and then talk.

Can you stop confusing a certified Bangladeshi fan with us?

Cheers and grats on your win.

Why should we come down to your level to talk? When we have won more champions trophy and world cups. India remains the daddy team in the sub continent when it comes to winning the most ICC tournaments. But good to see other teams improving and raising their game. Good for the game of cricket, which btw I don't follow anymore. I am more into football.

Ab soccer ka baira gharak karo!

Please read my message one more time, I am talking about Finals only.

And who knows Indian batting could collapse again in second matched and couldn't even score 100 because of hard hit trauma in first match..... So please stop guessing if there were three matches or 10 matches..

I hope Pakistani fans learn how to enjoy win lightly.

Iam aware that you are talking about finals .... but Iam addressing the main point about fluke wins ... so its not a fluke if you defeat the same time twice in the span of 2 weeks.

Trauma ? look at my signature .... its unlikely your team will ever surpass that deficit of 11-0 in your life time ... now thats called permanent Trauma.

What about 73-52 and 12-09????

Do you know these numbers.. Do you thinks kids can cross 73 number in your life time?

They are a tiny nation with a couple of millions people, I heard they are only 20 millions where as you are more than billion and still lost 73 times.... can't believe it...

I don't think too many Indian fans expected India to lose against Pakistan, never mind get hammered like they did.

Complacency perhaps and maybe some over-confidence from the fans.

I wasn't really confident before the final. Mostly because I knew Pakistan were on top of their game by then.

Pakistan played really well that day and Amir was the reason they went on to win the match by a huge margin. India never recovered from the loss of the huge wickets at the start due to his brilliant bowling.

Well played and a deserved win.

From an Indian perspective though there were a few positives. We saw the fighting qualities of Hardik Pandya who has his best days ahead of him. Also we now know that our traditional spinners are not going to work on the flattish English surfaces nowadays which has rightly resulted in the inclusion of wrist spinners. This strategy as of now looks to be good and hopefully would result in better results in the future.

Even if it needs course correction, there is a little bit of time and few series abroad in Australia and New Zealand where we will come to know if two wrist spinners is the right way to go or should we cut down to just one.

So disappointed a bit about the result of that match - but looking at the large picture, it doesnt look that bad to be honest.

In my opinion there are no flukes in Test or ODI cricket. Every match is won by merit and every result is recorded in history books and that's what people will remember. One could have argued years ago about poor umpiring decisions though, that's a different issue.

Pakistan played well and won champions trophy. After the trophy if we talk about a full series...Pakistan went to New Zealand and won the series 5 nil while India toured South Africa and lost series 5 to 1. That was indication enough of fluke win as it is called by some
