India has ended all imports of oil from Iran, its ambassador in Washington said Wednesday, becoming the latest country to grudgingly comply with threatened US sanctions.

Dosshtt Dosshtt na raha .... :murali

Serves Iran right. They got what they deserved. Just a few months back they were threatening Pak with this and that and now they are begging us for support after being treated like a doormat by India:hasan

That's how you ditch your buddies when they need you most...

Good lesson for Iran! They use to support India over Pakistan. Now they are asking for Pakistan's assistance. Sorry, we do care about ordinary Iranians but do not want to get involved / support either side.

Feel sorry for Iran. This is what you get when you act oversmart and try to play a double game. India is a friend of none. In international relations its a benign country which bends over quickly.

I sympathize with the common Iranian who will suffer greatly because of the situation that has been created.

Iran was probably pinning hopes on India standing with them as it is perhaps the only close ally who could stand up to the USA to some extent.

Eagerly awaiting for the Indian posters that were adamant India wasn't going to bow to US pressure regarding Iranian sanctions :))

They are gonna ask for "neutral" sources.

Looks like Turks also stopped importing Iranian oil this month. It will be interesting to see if Russia and China come forward to save Iran but china also needs Saudis.

India folded like a pack of cards

When USA tells you to do something, you better do it. India are nothing in front of the greatest nation on earth ever found.

God Bless USA!

Iran was never India's friend. From the Shah giving arms to Pakistan to the current Ayatollah making statements on Kashmir, Iran has never worked to help India.

If you think Iran has been India's friend, you should be able to give examples of how they have helped India.

India will still be pouring millions into Iran via Chabahar port development and its uses.

Also Iranian oil is being bought around the world via other markets. Wonder if India will access that too.

They wouldn't do this unless the US guaranteed other avenues of getting oil.
Non story, Iran is duplicitous anyways.

Not sure if you are trolling, but in a way its very true.

That is what some Pakistani people who hate the army do not understand, and they keep going on about how Pakistani army killed their own people for American interests in tribal areas.

Its not so simple, even a country with an economy as large as India has to bend the knee when enough pressure is applied.

No country should have this much power in the world, but they do, so the rest of us have to find a way to live with it.

"In politics there are no permanent enemies, and no permanent friends, only permanent interests."

India isn't as rich or as powerful as China where it can ignore the US and still buy oil from Iran. Pragmatism is the order of the day - the Unites States accounts for almost 1/5 of all Indian exports. Iran on the other hand is way down that list. Hurting relations with the US just to please Iran would be an act of national self flagellation on the part of India.

Wrong, that all changed with the Iranian revolution. Hyper sectarian Iran under the Shia regime has always sought and made alliances with all it's major sunni neighbors/rivals in the region and Pakistan was no exception. Iran was openly and actively supporting a Shia revolutionary movement in Pakistan which was only banned a few years ago along with a bunch of other terrorist organizations.

Iran's support of India and neutrality on Kashmir issue has been a hallmark of it's foreign policy throughout the 80's, 90's '00's up to now...There was a reason India had been buying Iran's oil all these years... nobody does anyone any free favors, particularly not the followers of Chanakya in Indian establishment...

But now India's baap has read the marching order to it and so it's being forced to betray it's friend Iran..

It just goes to show

Hardly matters to India what goes on inside Iran. The question for Indians is "what have Iranians done for us over the last hundreds of years?"

Make up your mind, is Iran supporting India or is it neutral? Actually the Ayatollahs every now and again criticize India on Kashmir.

India doesn't have baaps like other countries that come to mind. It stands by its friends, prime example being Russia. When Russia annexed Crimea, it was only India which supported it. Now the US is trying to stop it from purchasing SS-400s but India will go ahead nonetheless.

America is Indias baap as shown now. I am not fan of using this jargon but it shows how powerful the USA really is. Nevertheless, Iran must be feeling betrayed by India. Yet again, India can not do much, especially with Trump around as he says things how they are.

If I did something good for someone, I would feel that he should think of me as a friend. If later he did something to hurt me, I would feel betrayed.

I do not think Iran in its history has done anything significant for India that entitles it to believe that India should treat it as a friend.

Iran and India's recent history has been mainly business, neither friends, nor enemies.

There is always a difference between the people of a country and its government. Iran's government is more democratic than other Mideast countries, but the political power of the supreme Ayatollah and the Revolutionary Guards means that its government doesn't completely represent the people. Even if Indians feel some sympathy for the Iranian people, when India deals with Iran, it is mainly dealing with the Iranian regime (which Trump has targeted).

The simple fact is that mannohan Singh’s government resisted this step despite intense pressure whereas paper tiger Modi caved like a pack of cards

Unlike some, India doesnot have a baap, as we dont beg for money in front of other countries.

What India has is national interests. India will do what its interests determine.Like India buying Russian weapons despite US objecting and threatening sanctions.

The simple fact is that Obama govt kept giving waivers and not only India but Korea and Japan, the other two big buyers of iranian oil too kept buying.

India has a baap, He told India if you do not stop buying Iranian oil then you will get a spanking. India got scared and stop buying oil.

You were bragging on here not long ago saying India will continue to buy the oil because it's in its interests.

America has control of India's foriegn policy.

Can you show me the post where i made such a claim?

America has control, thats why we buy Russian S 400, Russian Nuke subs etc etc.

Sorry but unlike some others, India is bot for sale for a few dollars.

Thats 2012. This is 2019. Different times, different regimes, different sanctions.

:))) at the weak reply

Lolol prolly didn’t expect this someone to actually call you out like that

Spent day in and day out bragging about your military then Feb happened.

Bragged about Indian economy then truth came out.

Tried to portray your nation as free to do what they wish to and was told better get with it or will get spanking, stop buying Iranian oil.

Fruits of following a radicalized extremists nationalists PM.

Lol. Whats the weak reply? Go check the exemptions that US gave to India and other countries in 2012. A number of countries kept buying Iranian oil then.

Those exemptions are finished now.

Reading up helps you know.

Modi is acting in the interests of the Indian people. What benefit is it to the Indian people to try and help Iran while antagonizing the US?

Iran historically hasn't been India's friend, at best it has been neither a friend nor an enemy.

That is totally fine and the sensible thing to do imo. So good decision.

I just find it humorous since not long ago some people were chest thumping of how America can not put pressure on India to take a decision and India will continue to import Iranian oil indefinitely since its in national interest.

India continued to import Iranian oil, till it was in our national interest. India kept pressurising US and kept getting exemptions for 7 years. India is perhaps the 2nd last country to stop Iran oil imports. But now its not in our national interests to buy Iranian oil.

India though continues to buy venezuelean oil and Russian weapons, despite US sanctions.

Dost Dost na raha? This is what you call Behind par laat maarna

Big lesson for these deluded Iranis.

Modi is a coward.

He desperately wants to be Trumps friend even though he keeps showing them the middle finger.
