Virat effect - Dhoni would have won last WC good thing about Dhoni was given the players needed to win the tournament more often than not he would get the job done.

Looks to be some sort of mental block in recent years as nothing much else can justify this kind of a win % in knockouts.

Step aside South Africa, India are the real Masters of choke. :yk

South Africa: Another day in the office guys

India: hold my coffee

Women's T20 World Cup was played in Australia and they were the favourites to win. India did a good job of reaching to finals but unfortunately the favourites won. Don't think it was choke by ant standards.

Coming to men's ICC cricket, the reason we lost a couple of games in the finals was to give our brothers, Pakistan and Bangladesh their chances to win the tournament (CT'17 and U-19) to ensure the competitiveness of world cricket still stays as it is.

In 2015 WC , Australia were favourites and won the tournament. No surprises there.

In 2019 WC, we made a mockery of our own batting lineup by sending an inexperienced and naturally aggressive Pant and Pandya ahead and hiding our consolidator Dhoni at no.7. It was a comic masterpiece hard to be replicated by any other captain and coach combo.

Exactly. I don't know how people can say India has too much power in world cricket. We've been so generous in letting other teams win the Champions Trophy, World T20 and World Cup. No one is as big a sport as us.

Most teams will give an arm and a leg for that kinda record.

Between 2009-2014 Pakistan got to the semis 6 times in world events run by the ICC without going on to win:
2009 CT semi lost.
2010 U19 final lost.
2010 WT20 semi lost.
2011 WC semi final lost.
2012 WT20 semi lost.
2014 U19 WC final lost.

Yep now officially India replace south Africa as the premier chockers in world cricket

More realistically it's chocking of the highest order

Ok losing Asia cup while being favourites is not choking
Ok losing t20 series against Sri Lanka and Australia being ranked #1 is not choking
Ok not even entering SF of this year WC and last t20 WC is not choking

But a team playing finals away in a big tournaments and losing is choking. Let’s all agree this logic LoL

I will not even mention u19 games because they should not even be judged at that level

5-6 countries take this game seriously, winning just 1 trophy is a bit lacklustre IMO.

Let's hope the next couple of years bring more silverware

When a Virat Kohli"s team is performing consistently and is a top team across all formats but fails to win big high pressure games in a WC and the way Kohli gives his conferences it looks like India is slowly going into the direction of becoming an arrogant team a bit comparable to Ponting the way he was in that 2007/08 IND V AUS in AUS series and in the 2005 Ashes series, Kohli need to accept his failures then only he can improve where his team is failing because this Indian team has the potential to be a WC winning team across all formats

I think we can exclude the women's team and the u19 side which is a completely different kettle of fish.

That leaves 5 tournaments which have gone begging. First off, it shows great consistency to even make it that far but if you think back to all those tournaments, was India ever the best team? Rankings might say otherwise but they are not always accurate in realistic terms.

In WC 2019, England came into the tournament with the best ODI side since the last WC, they were always going to be favourites with debate around India, NZ or Aus in second place.

All ICC tournaments matter.
Not just about the main team all the time.
When a board reviews its performance U19 and women's performance is also taken into account.
It is about looking at the whole wider picture if you want excellence in cricket.
Not just restricting it to the men's senior team.

I agree with Asif, men senior team is played at totally different level cant compare the two at all.

I don’t think women’s T20 loss can be called choking. The gap between India and top sides like Australia and England is too huge in Women’s cricket. Both England and Australia has organized domestic system for women since decades whereas its still at amateur level in India.

But the comparisons are different. First off, age group cricket is nothing like cricket at the highest, male level and so would require entirely different analysis rather than being lumped in with everything else.

The same goes for the female game which has less funding, lower levels of fitness, competition and a far smaller talent pool.

To put it simply, the factors which apply to India's male team from not winning all these tournaments may not be the same when applied to the other two teams.

It may be bad for India but good for cricket in general. The competitions are making money and everybody other than India is winning.

MashaAllah great stuff :mv

This isn't too bad as it looks. Theoretically, on paper it shows that their player development has been top quality for a decade.

It also means they can't win or cross be finish line when it matters will all that money and resources they should have won more shame on Indian cricket team

That India has an ordinary ICC wins record is no secret but including women trophies in there to make a stronger argument, really? Pretty low in my opinion.

2023 world cup- india will win

2021 champions league - india will win

t20 2020 india will win.

chill.

It all started six years today when Sri Lanka turned over India in the World Twenty20 final in Dhaka. It was Sri Lanka's biggest international success since the World Cup win of 1996. Jayawardene and Sangakkara bowed out from the T20 format with a world title under their belts. Sangakkara was man of the match whereas Virat Kohli was adjudged player of the tournament. But sadly for Sri Lanka they will have to play the preliminary round with several associate teams in the forthcoming edition of the now renamed T20 World Cup.
