NEW DELHI: India will begin a 17-day tour of the West Indies next month with five one-day internationals and one Twenty20, the cricket boards of both countries confirmed Tuesday.

The ODI matches will be played at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Sabina Park in Jamaica. The only T20 is scheduled for July 9 at Sabina Park.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have confirmed India’s tour to the West Indies starting June 23, 2017,” the BCCI said in a statement.

India last toured the Caribbean islands in 2016 for a four-match Test series that was won by Virat Kohli’s side 2-0.

India’s cricket board dropped a $42 million damages claim against the West Indies over an abandoned tour in 2014.

Schedule:

June 23 – 1st ODI at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
June 25 – 2nd ODI at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
June 30 – 3rd ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda.
July 2 – 4th ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda.
July 6 – 5th ODI at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

July 9 – Only T20I at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Move over Sri Lanka, we have a new winner of the "dullest bilateral series" award

Why WI why?

May be we can test youngsters and slowly blood in players like Pant/Samson/Tripathi/Rana etc?

Of course it will not happen. We will send players like Rayadu.

We should send a young team with some experienced players

Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, etc should be rested

Give chances to players like Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shardul Thakur, etc. Maybe we can give another ODI chance to Cheteshwar Pujara as well

Cricket desperately needs new teams like Afghanistan, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands. We are sick and tired of watching the same teams play each other numerous times. About time ICC also sees it

A chance for India to allow H Pandya to become a supreme allrounder here?

A chance for BCCI to send their C team, and get back at the PCB for sueing them by giving WI some easy ICC ODI Ranking points ahead of the World Cup cut off date?

:afaq

....nah of course not!! I'm just being way too sceptical!

Did India play an ODI series last time

I remember a t20 series some some matches in USA. But no odis. So this is likely for that

BCCI brass wants WICB view on governance before tour approval

The BCCI wants to discuss the proposed ICC governance model with the WICB before giving the Indian cricket team its nod to tour the West Indies later this summer. After the Champions Trophy in the United Kingdom ends on June 18, the Indian team is scheduled to travel to the Caribbean islands in the last week of June for five ODIs and a T20 International.

Even last time in 2013, India, after winning the Champions Trophy, went to the West Indies for a tri-nation series.

This time around, a section within the BCCI wants that joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary speaks to WICB chief David Cameron with regards to India’s objections on the proposed changes in ICC governance model.

There is a feeling in the BCCI that the West Indies Cricket Board has had it easy since its national team pulled out of the 2014 series in India midway after a payment dispute.

“We let the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) go scot-free back in 2014 after they pulled out midway. We claimed damages of USD 42 million (approximately) but that was also waived by Shashank Manohar after he became the BCCI president for the second time. Now they have also voted against us at ICC Board. We need to look at these aspects,” a senior BCCI official told PTI today on the condition of anonymity.

While they know that any pullout will need direct approval from the Committee of Administrators (COA), some top officials want Vinod Rai to know that the WICB has taken BCCI for a ride.

“There has to be some discussions with Cameron and WICB as to what their viewpoint is on governance. In any case, it’s the WICB which gains if we go. Before the ICC Annual Conference, it would be great if Amitabh speaks to their cricket board,” a added.

The ICC normally does not have a say on bilateral series as it is a bi-partite agreement between the two cricket boards.

In 2014, WICB violated the agreement and the cash- strapped board was in no position to pay the multi-million dollar damages claimed by the BCCI. In 2016, India toured the West Indies for a four-Test series, which Virat Kohli’s boys won 2-0.

Very poor scheduling to be honest but looks like it has very little to do with cricket.

Are West Indies going to side with BCCI in the next ICC meeting now?

I thought this ODI leg of the tour was always planned for this summer as India only toured WI for Tests last year with a few T20s in Florida.

Maybe, though this tour seems to have been scheduled hastily.Maybe this was the only possible window?

After drubbing in CT India will need this confidience booster:)

West Indies vs India 2017 : India rests Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah

India vs West Indies 2017: With the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 coming to an end on Sunday and Pakistan clinching the title by defeating India by 180 runs, Virat and co will have to shift all its concentration on to the five-match One-day International (ODI) series away against West Indies which starts on June 23 in Trinidad and Tobago. The Windies will play with an unchanged squad from the last series against Afghanistan. This means there will be no place for the likes of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard. India will look at the series to dust of the dirt from the embarrassing loss in the Champions Trophy final. The Men in Blue will also play with the same squad of Champions Trophy with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah being the only two players to be rested.

The squad for the Jason Holder’s team will be the same only for the first two matches as their spearhead bowler Shannon Gabriel is still recovering from an injury and will join the team for the third match. India is the heavy favourites as there is a huge difference in the class and ranking of both the teams. The first ODI of the 5 match series will start on Friday, 23rd June at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.

West Indies squad:

Jason Holder (C), Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Carter, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shai Hope (WK), Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammad, Ashley Nurse, Kieran Powell, Rovman Powell, Kesrick Williams.

India ODI squad:

Virat Kohli(c), Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Ajinkya Rahane, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Dinesh Karthik

Thought Sharma's was to do with rest following an operation.

Possible confidence killer for Bumrah, this. That no-ball will haunt.

Yup disaster for bumrah, he should have been in the team to regain the much needed confidence. Thrashing westindies would have been ideal for him.

I have seen enough of Bumrah to say he is most mentally weak player in our team. His nerves will make us lose more matches than win in KOs. He should meet up a psychologist to get over Sunday's incident and also work on reducing the no balls he dish out frequently.

Good that Rohit is rested till he recovers from his thigh operation completely. He wasn't at his best in the tournament.

After the trashing received by PAK team i suggest the whole Indian team to see a psychologist.

THAT loss will have huge impact coming years....

Not really, if you ask me. Pakistan played with lot of passion and deserved to win. ICT is a professional unit and things like these happens on a day, I am sure they are out of it by now and planning for WI series. OTOT, Fans here in India are overly warm to our team and respect them for making the finals, yes they lost but credit goes to opposition for that. We Can't win all matches. So not much fans criticism too on the team either.

On the other hand, Bumrah might need some help for coming out of guilt trip which he might be going through.

The CT has just been ended atleast give them couple of weeks off don't think most of Indian players will even be in right state of mind to even play this series
Too much

Team India land in the West Indies

Port of Spain (Trinidad): The Indian cricket team arrived here for a limited-overs series against the West Indies amid the off-field drama surrounding Anil Kumble’s resignation as head coach following a rift with captain Virat Kohli.

The West Indies Cricket Board posted a photo of Kohli and opposition captain Jason Holder at the team hotel. India, who lost to Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final at The Oval on Sunday, start favourites for the series comprising five ODIs and a T20 International.

The series-opener will be played here on Friday. While Kumble has given his side of the story, Kohli is yet to speak about the differences with the former Indian spinner, who stepped down on Tuesday as the team boarded the flight to the Caribbean from London.

For all the Bumrah bashing, the truth remains that the squad to Windies was announced days before the finals and had no bearing on his non selection. BCCI wanted to rest him because they are considering his inclusion in the test squad for the SL tour next month.

Rohit is being rested because he had a hip surgery recently. He is likely to be included in the test squad shortly as well.

Kyle Hope,Sunil Ambris replace Jonathan Carter,Kesrick Williams for remaining 3 ODIs in WIvInd

North Sound(Antigua): Trailing 0-1 in the series, the West Indies have brought in two fresh faces — Kyle Hope and Sunil Ambris — for the remaining three ODIs against India.

Hope and Ambris replaced Jonathan Carter and Kesrick Williams in the 13-man squad.

Kyle Hope is one of the two new faces drafted in West Indies squad. Twitter/@CPLKyle Hope is one of the two new faces drafted in West Indies squad. Twitter/@CPL
Hope, brother of current West Indies wicketkeeper, leads Trinidad and Tobago in domestic cricket while Ambris plays as a wicketkeeper-batsman for Windward Islands.

"Sunil Ambris and Kyle Hope are two very promising young batsmen who have been selected on the basis of strong performances in our competitions," said Courtney Browne, Cricket West Indies' chairman of selectors.

"Kyle opened on our last A team one-day tour to Sri Lanka and had some very good performances. In addition, he also had a good showing opening the batting for the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force franchise in this year's PCL competition."

Talking about Ambris, Browne added, "Sunil did well in our Regional Super50 One-Day tournament and also had a good showing in this year's PCL first-class tournament for Windward Islands Volcanoes, and therefore will fit within our middle order."

"They will be up against a good Indian team and they have an opportunity to show their skills and contribute to a stronger team performance."

The third ODI takes place in Antigua on Friday and the same venue will also stage the fourth ODI before teams travel to Jamaica for the final ODI and a T20 International.

India lead the series 1-0 after a comfortable 105-run win in the second ODI at Port of Spain, following the washed out series opener.

Squad: Jason Holder (captain), Sunil Ambris, Devendra Bishoo, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Kyle Hope, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Kieran Powell, Rovman Powell.
