New Delhi, Mar 22: Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has said that India skipper Virat Kohli should not be “bothered” by a couple of Australian journalists who are trying to “tarnish his image”.

Australia’s ‘Daily Telegraph’ in its report had compared Kohli to the US president Donald Trump.

“Just like President Trump, Kohli decided to blame the media as a means of trying to hide the egg smeared right across his face,” the report stated to Kohli’s allegations about Australian team disrespecting physio Patrick Farhart.

However Clarke today firmly supported the feisty Indian captain.

“Comparing Virat Kohli with Donald Trump – what a load of s*** is that. What Virat did, even Smith would have. Bear in mind, I love Kohli and the Australian public love him. I always somehow find an Australian in him the way he plays and I absolutely love how he accepts challenges. It’s just two or three reporters who are trying to tarnish him but Virat shouldn’t be bothered,” Clarke told ‘Aaj Tak-India Today’ news channel today.

Clarke said even Steve Smith won’t be bothered by what Australian media is writing.

“I don’t think even Steve Smith would bother about what the Australian media is saying. In fact both the captains would be telling their teams to concentrate on how to win in Dharamshala.

“It is more like the Ashes 2005 we played where every Test was life and death and the players gave it all on the field. But off the field, both teams remained friends. It is only befitting of the way this series has been played that it will be decided in the last Test.”

Clarke said that Virat is one innings away from getting a big score.

“Virat is tough and if you’re number one, then you have got to be tough. That’s how champions play. He may come up with a big century and win India the series in Dharamsala,” Clarke said.

“Expectations from him are so high that everytime he steps out to bat, people want him to score centuries.”

Clarke said that once again toss will be a deciding factor and India would be in trouble if there is any moisture left on the strip.

“India will be silly to leave any moisture on the Dharamshala pitch. The pitch will be more like Ranchi or other venues in this series but I have a feeling, the captain winning the toss should win the Test. Bowlers from both the teams are so fatigued, both teams would want to bat first and allow their bowlers a bit of rest. Bat first and get 400-450 on the board.”

Someone give him an IPL contract already. He's Australian and he loves Virat Kohli.

I feel that pup genuinely believes this and isn't trying to please anyone. I admire this guy.

Clarke for the entire duration of the series seems to be more on the Indian side than the Australian one from the narrative's perspective.

Ulterior motives? Likely not, it just occurs to me that he's trying to be alternative just for the sake of it.

Kohli is a serial whinger and being on his side in this debate is not for anyone besides his most ardent fans.

Kohli's behavior has been childish and deserves negative attention

Anyways this has been the best test series in ages and that's what should be remembered in days to come

It's good to state your thoughts and he doesn't have to always side with Australians but he has gone a bit overboard in supporting the other side in the series

Na na not just clarke we are tired of hearing almost any ex cricketer or current cricketer calling virat n.o 1.....Its nothing new for us.....baki shote veer dil shota ni krna..koi gal ni..chlya rehnda eh sb...jyda load na lavi...

The only thing that is tarnishing his image is his terrible form

I would feel bad for Kohli, I really would if ihe hadnt used the same DRS ploy against Bangladesh a month before the Australia test. Absolutely whinger.

Well Clarke has no friends in Australian cricket so may as well try and get some friends in India.

Kohli has embarrassed himself this series. All talk and bravado, no runs.

That incident is absolutely and utterly nothing to do with the Smith incident. The incident that you mention is really the 3rd umpires fault as he must have also checked for the LBW. Steve Smith's incident was just plain cheating as confirmed by the fact that he got review after review wrong in the 3rd test.

I love his commentary.. sometimes gets too technical with the analysis but always informative. Him and Taylor are the two channel 9 guys I admire the most

You're missing the point. Kohli or someone is his team or the entire team, with the help of replays which should not have been shown at the point, referred the decision. Under the ICC regulations, on screen replay A- should not be shown and B - if they are, can not be used to guide a teams referral. Like a piece on cricinfo said, if India had lost because of it, it would have become a bigger issue.

Making things up are we now?

"You make a fair point there but some may disagree with ie, Chris Last-name" : Michael Clarke

Clarke has always been a gentleman apart from that Anderson broken arm episode. Always admires the opposition and gives due respect to them. Even when he was the captain you could see how respectful he was at the toss or the closing ceremony of the matches. Possibly the most un-australian guy there has been.

Don't think there is an ulterior motive involved there. He just likes to praise and admire the good captains. Might make a good coach in future who would back the down and out of form players. Won't be surprised if Kohli gets a daddy hundred in the 4th test.

Unlike Lehmann, Clarke atleast knows the technical side of things, lehmann is so annoying with his interviews and speaks vaguely just on the mental side of things.

I can't find anything except that ridiculous review from Mushfiqur.

I couldnt edit the post so heres what I added

I'm feeling like I need to show you the truth so here goes:

"A possibly unforeseen event occurred to end the Hyderabad Test, as far as DRS is concerned. Because it brought India an expected victory, the review to bring about the last dismissal - with almost a session still in India's hand to take that last wicket - didn't become the big controversy it might have been in tighter circumstances. In brief, India were allowed to review a not-out call on lbw after they had possibly seen the replay on the big screen or had at least had the opportunity for signals to be made from the change room. "

And it follows:

" The replays showed that the bat didn't even touch the ball. In fact it hit the ground, which might have given Erasmus the impression of an inside edge. However, the replays also showed this was a really good lbw call in this case. As soon as the big screen flashed not out, Kohli hit his left forearm with his right fist, initiating what turned out to be a successful review.

This was in clear contravention of 3.2 (d) of the DRS protocol: "No replays, either at normal speed or slow motion, should be shown on a big screen to spectators until either the next delivery has been bowled or the players have left the field.
"

I won't be going over it any further if you stil lwant to argue the point, considering you didnt even watch your own team play. However, if you reply with syaing you were wrong then thats fine.

Australians are pretty accomplished in slander and using press as an extension of their BS. Aussies were cheating. Fact.

..... but Kohl did not Cheat ..... like Smith !!!!

Australians are pretty accomplished in slander and using press as an extension of their BS. Aussies were cheating. Fact.

If there was no controversy surrounding India v Bang then there shouldn't be any controversy surrounding Smith.

I personally believe both captains should have been punished, fined their match fees or banned, whatever the result is for breaking this particular ICC rule.

Clarke is trying super hard to please the indians for a while; gives me the impression hes trying for a Brett Lee esque media deal...

Not both. Only Aussie as he blatantly cheated. Came up with the worst excuse of brain fade. We all saw what happened. No need to spin it. Aussies cheated. Fact.

So I assume you didin't watch your own team play Bangladesh?

This thread is about Kohli mate.

If reading comprehension is not your forte I can help you. This thread is about deflecting your blatant cheating to making Kohli an issue. You understand that buddy?

with Kholi being dropped from the team for poor performance I guess the Aussie tabloids got to him.

No the Indian selectors told me. Why would you replace a batsman with a bowler. They had to drop someone to make way for a bowler.

From the land of Rupert Murdoch. What else can you expect.

with Kholi being dropped from the team for poor performance I guess the Aussie tabloids got to him.

I think we don't need to pay further attention to you as a serious cricket fan.

And not just for your mediocrity/ carelessness that you revealed in your spelling of his name.

Is that the best you can do. Pathetic.

Sorry old son, should I have swallowed the fantasy story about Kholi being injured. What a great coincidence it was, Kholi was injured and they wanted to bring in a extra bowler, and didn't Kholi look fit running out drinks to the players.

No but you can swallow the tabloid stuff all day long. Serving drinks and throwing with a hurt shoulder are two different things. But feel free to live in your fantasy land.

Kohli was been destroyed by the Aussie bowlers, he was a liability to the team and had to go. I happy for you to believe he couldent play and they had to bring in a bowler to cover for him.

They could have dropped another batsman instead of Kohli. India added a fifth bowler because they are going for a win. Kohli is currently living in Aussies head rent free. That is bothering you.

Let us get back to the topic. Aussies cheated. Fact.

Really, which batsman would you have dropped, Kohli has a highest score of 15 in the series. The Aussie bowlers have owned him this series, he really is living in their minds, they only have to think he is out and presto he is out.

This topic is about blatant cheating by aussies. Read between the lines Mr. Hawkins.

This is actually true. Speaks about how much Kohli has gotten under their skins.Even when he is not scoring they feel a need for playing mind games with him. Aussies are scared of Kohli for lifetime. :)))

No it's not :))

Let me walk you thru it.

(1) Aussies caught cheating. Fact.

(2) Claimed it was brain fade. fact.

(3) Kohli tells the truth that this behavior of Aussie is systemic and institutionalised. Fact.

(4) Kohli is under Aussie skin. Fact.

(5) Kohli gets in Aussies head and starts living rent free. Fact.

(6) Aussies ****** off and claim he threw a bottle.

(7) "Mommy someone touched me"

(8) Aussie press starts calling names /trump etc.

(9) Do not explain cheating. Fact.

Now can you connect the dots or you need some more help? Aussies cheated. Fact.

Have a blessed day.

So Australia were going to be beaten 4-0 then Kohli got into the Aussies heads and now they might even win the series, great job by Kohli.

He has long before for some time now. They know it. Why they feel need to constantly attack him when he is not even performing. They fear him clearly.

Kohli is a champ.

Press doing lots of bad and black journalism over his antics.

So Australia were going to be beaten 4-0 then Kohli got into the Aussies heads and now they might even win the series, great job by Kohli.

If some random guy says 4-0 it does not mean a thing. Aussies are playing great cricket that is why the series is close. Oh but Kohli is indeed in your head.

I don't know how long you have followed cricket so I wont assume anything, but you do know the difference between a sports writer and a player, just checking.

Exactly.Kohli didn't say its going to be 4-0. Aussiea are scared to admit Kohli has totally screwed their minds even without scoring much.

What's the new spinoff now. You can assume anything anyway. Btw even you don't .here is proof

So what has all this achieved, Aussies beat India at home and now could even win in India. Kohli has got into their heads is that why the Aussies are winning, before kohli got into their heads India would easily win at home. Perhaps that is working for Australia. Kohli is doing all the talking and Smith is doing all the batting so it looks like a win win situation for both teams.

Lol My fingers aren't quoting right posts today. Anyway Ph11 quoted exactly what I want to quote

No let's go back to previous post discussion.Do you know the difference between a sport writer and player? I don't know since when you are following cricket.:)))

I just wanted to show how wrong Gilly was of accusing you of a behavior which he blatantly exhibits.

Listen bro.Its true Kohli has been all talk no performance and smith is performing. But that still doesn't change the fact that Kohli has indeed gotten under their skin anyway. Also it doesn't change the fact that Smith cheated and Kohli was livid about it. At the end of the series Aussies would be proud of their on field performance anyway. GREAT JOB. Congrats.

I have noticed quite a lot on this forum that a lot of Indian supporters don't know the difference between the media and the players. When a media outlet produces a story Indian supporters tend to blame the players. Some of them even think that the media and the players work together to unsettle the opposition.

Smith is playing great cricket and everyone is applauding him as a fan of the game. What is annoying is the extra curricular stuff that Aussie press is doing. What is the need for your journalist to call him "Trump" etc. I guess he got into your head. Called out your cheating and now you resort to teenage behavior of name calling. Be a man and apologize for cheating and move on. "Brain Fade" you got to be kidding.

And the end result is Australia have played much better and taken the series up to India, so the question still remains, what was the point of Kohli getting under the skin of the aussies if it work in their favour?.

Which player did I blame so that I can apologize to him personally. I just said your team cheated and accept that like a man and move on.

Do you?

Tbf Indian players had also said that Aussies will lose 3-0 if they played well

You did the same bro just few posts back when you said about us winnung 4-0.No player from our current team said that before the series began.

Or the Aussie press are into Kohli's head and are now continuing with it now they realise it's got to him? He's already revealed that he went to youtube in the middle of an ongoing test (not just mid-series) to search for some dirt he could fling back at Healy in his press conferences.

To be frank Brad Hodge who recently questioned Kohli's injury and commitment was also an Australian player.

There is way too much respect for Aussies in India for a current team member to talk like that. Yes some ex-players said and that was wrong. Anybody who follows cricket knows Aussies are very good.

The men moved on twenty days ago, some are taking a little longer to get over it.
