TESTS
PLAYED 4 WON 1 LOST 3
As of the day of the writing - statistically speaking India so far had a pretty bad year playing Test Cricket.
India was spanked by New Zealand 2-0 quite comfortably in their own backyard at the start of the year. It is easy and convenient to hide behind the generalized explanation that these days most teams do lose overseas - but for a team and/or some part of its vocal fanbase who do not lose an opportunity to remind that they are the powerhouse of cricket - that is really yet to translate into consistent performances at the test level befitting a top team.
Winning the series in Australia in 2021 with a depleted side will go a long way in adding to India's quest to be a more consistent test side overseas.
ODI's
PLAYED 9 WON 3 LOST 6.
Once again statistically speaking India had a pretty bad year in the ODI's too - and once again mainly through their bugbear New Zealand who whitewashed them 3-0.
India also lost to Australia 2-1 but the score line does not do full justice as the only game they won was the dead rubber.
India did win the series 2-1 at home against Australia at the start of the year.
T20's
PLAYED 11 WON 7 LOST 1 TIED 2 NO RESULT 1.
India had its most success in the shortest format. From blanking New Zealand in New Zealand and winning against Australia 2-1 again in Australia - shows that India would be frontrunner in the next year's T20 World Cup.
Earlier in the year India also beat Sri Lanka 2-0.
Overall it was a disappointing year for India but the victory in Melbourne augurs well for 2021.
