Indian government trying to hide the 'reality of its actions' in Kashmir: MEP Chris Davies

Clashes as far-right EU lawmakers visit Indian Occupied Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Dozens of clashes erupted in Indian Occupied Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said, as a delegation of mostly far-right European lawmakers paid a contentious visit to the restive region stripped of its autonomy in August.

With a curfew in many parts of the main city, Srinagar, police fired tear gas and shotgun pellets as around 40 clashes flared across the occupied valley, officials said.

It was unclear if there were any injuries.
The delegation of around 30 European lawmakers — including far-right deputies from Poland, France, Germany and Britain — met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, prompted accusations that it aimed to blunt criticism of New Delhi over Kashmir.

One MEP from Britain’s centrist Liberal Democrats, Chris Davies, said the Indian government withdrew his invitation after he insisted on being able to talk to locals without a police escort.

“I am not prepared to take part in a PR stunt for the Modi government and pretend that all is well,” Davies said in a statement.

The delegation included members of the nationalist, anti-immigration and eurosceptic Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, France’s National Rally, the Brexit Party and Poland’s Law and Justice.

I hope Pakistani posters do take their news portal reporting about Kashmir with a pinch of salt. Like they took from Indian news portal. But that's what separates genuine from propoganda people's.

This entire Kashmir thing - as predicted - has fizzled out anyway.

Both us and the Pakistani taxpayers have to fund the glorious place's cause for living for another 72 years by the looks of things.

Imran Khan had a golden chance to make a move and he's blown it.

What move did you want him to make?

Why would I want to get rid of a state that guzzles Rs. 58,970 crores every decade to no tangible return? Is that a rhetorical question?

The guy was trying to avoid killing poor Indian and Pakistani soldiers unlike Modi who was trying to have few kill to win an election.

[MENTION=151384]Cypher[/MENTION]- You are choosing and picking what is suitable for you. Let other MP's who actually visiting the place come out and say what is actual truth. Not me and you, or anyone outside can know about the ground situations. Your guys are picking single news which make it look like their is whole lot of genocide going on, just like our guys pinpointing good news. But on the whole, I am telling you situation is not grieve as you guys are portraying. Situation is getting better with each day.

The guy was trying to avoid killing poor Indian and Pakistani soldiers unlike Modi who was trying to have few kill to win an election.

Wrong. He was too chicken to do anything.

Now the issue will continue to fester at the expense of, you guessed it, poor Indian and Pakistani soldiers for decades more to come.

So if something happens to him in absence of security escort, what will be the result(

So it's not an official EU delegation and was just another photoshoot and PR stunt by the butcher of Gujarat

Of course not lol.

Probably picked by Israel for India. No sane or normal person could ever justify the occupation of Kashmir.

have friends who have told me stuff about people they know who had crossed over into pak from iok last month and the stories are harrowing to say the least.

I don't know why the indian government invited MEPs from the EU to observe what is an internal issue of the country. Modi has done plenty of dumb things and this is yet another one.

have friends who have told me stuff about people they know who had crossed over into pak from iok last month and the stories are harrowing to say the least.

We will hear firsthand accounts soon enough, when the IOK posters return. I’m sure they’ll corroborate the news that has been trickling out.

It looks like the German far-right party AfD and Marine Le Pen's party from France we’re heavily represented in this “delegation.” Birds of a feather and all that.

Keep all these Nazi-wanna-be-jokes to India, we don't want em back anymore!

This Hermann Tertsch (vox) is a local Spanish meme. Sued a TV channel cuz they laughed at his stupidity :))) and lost. People literally laugh at this idiot.

Addition to previous post: This Hermann Tertsch guy The Muslim Killer has invited to Indian Occupied Kashmir used to work as "journalist" for a local public TV...

On 14th of November of 2014: the European Trade Union Federation called for a general strike. People from all over the EU (and Spain, obviously) came to street. There was a lot of tension (a poor woman last an eye in Barcelona due to Police brutality, more clashes etc. You get the idea)

Now our man-child that The Muslim Killer has invited, instead of doing his job and reporting the truth; recorded a statement "yadda yadda... strike has failed... yadda yadda" even before the strike started :)) and due to his stupidity got caught. The report leaked was leaked before anything happened. Guy is a liar. He got insulted, shamed and ridiculed by everyone.

I won't be surprised if The Muslim Killer's minions paid him some Euros to visit Mahan India.

So just y'all know, kind of trash these delegation members are! My 2 cents.

What you mean "fizzled out"? It is still headline news in Pak and online with as soldiers continue being killed as well. I agree that IK has not handled it well so far but nothing is over by a long shot.

Indian government’s Kashmir move backfires

Calling it a PR stunt, UK politician pulls out of ‘private visit’ by carefully selected members of European Parliament.

The Indian government’s attempt to win some favorable global opinion on Kashmir fell apart after a British member of the European Parliament (MEP) pulled out, calling it a “public relations stunt for the [Indian Prime Minister Narendra] Modi government.”

Fringe right wing extremists who are backed by Zionists in order to fuel hatred of non-whites esp Muslims.

BJP is pretty dumb government adding to it's extremist nature. This move is like grabbing a fish and slapping yourself in the face. People in Europe are laughing and recognising Modi is just like those MPs.

lol at the event manager, so desperate to prove himself the messiah of Kashmiris. If not for dumb Indian electorate, he'd have easily lost both assembly elections immediately after revocation of article 370. Now that would have hurt him the most, not what India suffers due to his dumb moves.

He has so successfully internationalized Kashmir, thank you very much sanghis for supporting him.

What were they trying to achieve by pulling this stunt? The MEPs are from fringe far right anti-Muslim parties so even if they give a positive account. it wouldn’t mean much.

If anything this hurts India’s point that Kashmir is an internal issue.

Sanghis are too thick to understand that....However it has definitely given event manager yet another chance of photo op.

Finnish foreign minister wants 'politically-balanced' MEP delegation visit to IOK

Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto has urged New Delhi to organise a ‘multi-party’ and ‘politically-balanced’ delegation for a visit to India Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

Referring to the carefully arranged trip of European Union lawmakers to the occupied valley, Haavisto said that the delegation “was not, in my understanding, a multi-party and politically balanced delegation”.

New Delhi’s move backfired when the European Union mission in India distanced itself from the tour as reports emerged that the MEPs belonged to far-right parties.

“I don’t want to criticise if anyone is traveling and reporting about the situation in Kashmir, but it is good if people who have expertise about the situation in this region or on human rights, freedom of the media issues, etc. are involved,” said the Finnish foreign minister.

“As a former United Nations person, I would rely on the UN observers, and in this kind of situation they may be the most unbiased.”

Haavisto added that the Kashmir issue was first discussed between India and Finland delegations in Helsinki. “In Helsinki, we had raised the question and had been given an explanation on the [Indian] government’s efforts to calm the region and fight against terrorism, etc. At that time, we had expressed our concerns about human rights and freedom of speech and the detention of politicians.”

The minister stressed that the Finnish delegation had the same agenda during the recent visit to New Delhi. “[We] want to ask about the possibility to have international observers, including UN observers to travel up to Kashmir.”

“At least if the diplomatic community-based in Delhi could visit the region, it would create more confidence about what is going on,” he urged.

Haavisto said the tensions between India and Pakistan were unsustainable. “They must find a way to sit down and finding a solution, but this has to be an initiative of the region.”

He added that although the Indian government had listened to Finland’s demands but “nothing else” has happened “yet”.

When asked if he believed the situation in IOJ&K was unsustainable, Haavisto said: “Shops are not open, people can’t go to work, or others are not able to harvest [crops].”

“News like this normally means that economic development is worsening too, and people’s livelihoods are becoming difficult, so this is also a concern,” he added.

On Indo-Pak ties, the envoy recalled Finnish peacekeepers’ efforts to resolve the issue. “It is quite obvious that the willingness to talk has to come from the parties themselves, and then if they decide can choose a third party that they trust.”

“But usually, it is not the third party that offers – that is my experience,” he said when asked if Finland would like to be the intermediator.

Days before India revoked occupied Kashmir’s autonomy, the Modi-led government made mass arrests including political leaders and activists, evacuated tourists, and flooded the region with troops. It also imposed an information and communication lockdown in the occupied region. India has also turned down requests by human rights organisations, journalists and US senators to visit the disputed valley.
