Why was this even trying to show his loyalty to India in Pakistan? Now this bechara guy has been blacklisted by the Indian govt and the guy who he trolled is probably still drinking his tea.

That's why I hate when white people try to cash on Indian-Pakistani rivalry, there are no winners or losers in this one.

Popular YouTuber Karl Rock alleged that the Indian government has blocked his entry into the country and added his name to the blacklist, separating him from his wife and family in Delhi.

Originally from New Zealand, Rock said that he has not been provided with a reason why his name was added to the blacklist.

In a Twitter post, tagging New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Rock said, “Dear Jacinda Ardern, the Govt. of India has blocked me from entering India separating me from my wife and family in Delhi. They blacklisted me without telling me, giving reasons, or letting me reply.”

Rock, who has over 17,00,000 subscribers on his travel YouTube channel where he explores various cities in India, has been living with his wife, Manisha, and her family in Rohini for the past few years.

“I left India to go travel Dubai and Pakistan in October 2020, and upon leaving, they cancelled my visa at the airport. They wouldn’t tell me why,” Rock wrote in a blog post, adding that when he applied for a new visa, he was told that he has been blacklisted.

“During this time we’ve written to the Home Ministry multiple times, Manisha tried to speak with them at their office in Delhi, we’ve written to the High Commissioner of India in New Zealand. But His Excellency ignored me, even when I turned up to his office with my wife’s Covid positive report,” he wrote.

Alleging that he has been through a lot of separation trauma, Rock said he will be moving to the Delhi High Court to find out the reason behind being blacklisted and request removal.

Last year in July, Karl was parised by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after he donated plasma at a Delhi government plasma bank during the first Covid wave.

What a strange thread title. This guy is a well mannered and polite blogger who makes what are very interesting travel videos. Why are you calling him a troll?

He's made some fantastic videos in Pakistan and if you read the comments of both Pakistanis & Indians on FB/Youtube they are generally quite appreciative of him. In fact, I think his videos help portray Pakistan in a good light in India.

It's quite a reach to call him a troll when he doesn't make overly sensationalist videos and is generally well measured and composed.

I hope the Indian's let him see his missus soon.

Yet again, Indias small hearts and insecurities as a country are exposed. Karl is a travel vlogger and is very neutral, stays away from politics. I think he is being targeted as he has done work to expose Indian scammers. Ofcourse, Indians do not like being exposed as their image is apparently tarnished. Good luck to Karl as his wife is Indian and this disturbs his family life. He is genuinely a very nice person.

The only reason the guy in the video is labelled a troll is because his view doesn't bode with the Hindutva narrative.

Seperating him from his family; the hallmark of racism, facism, and terrorism. Welcome to 'incredible' India.

I called him a troll bc of this video.

I have been following him for two years. He produces top-notch content and he has a wonderful sense of humor. This seems bizzarre because he is a very decent and loving huy.

Apparently it's because he participated in an anti CAA protest.

Shows how unreceptive the government is towards any dissenting opinion.

I think he is blacklisted bc he went to Pakistan's side of Kashmir and showed how peaceful it is there in comparison to India's side which is basically a hellhole.

Well that would do it since Indian govt is very sensitive about news leaking about Indian held Kashmir. Especially if it's being compared unfavourably with Pakistan side.

If he married an Indian women and has kids with her and lives in Delhi, then he should have applied for Indian citizenship. Nobody can stop him from returning to India.
BJP once again doing petty politics. Let the man live and air his opinions.

I dont know who this guy is, but isnt it a government’s prerogative to give/reject a visa? I have heard several cases of US/ Schengen visas getting rejected for myriad reasons, they never make headlines!

A simple solution for him is to get his wife & kids to join him in NZ. Who would live in India if they can be in NZ?

The guy makes a living by making videos on India and its people and publishing on Youtube. Its his livelihood.

nothing wrong with that, this guy has his wife and kids in India he saw himself as an indian almost, the Pakistani guy was trying to troll him and they shared some banter back and forth no problem.

I have seen a lot of his videos in pak and india and have always found him to be very well mannered neutral commentator whos called out rubbish from both sides of the border, seems like india has taken it a bit too sensitively, and it also seems like a decision as made prior to him even leaving the country for pak to expel him.

A polite guy, and a good travel vlogger. His coverage was realistic for both Pakistan and India hence probably why it went against the Hindutva narrative of supa powa by 2020.

What kind of a livelihood is that? Is that reason enough for somebody’s visa not to get rejected - i mean H1B visas get rejected all the time, dont they?

Ive followed him a while and he seems like a terrific person and is a brilliant vlogger as well. Speaks Hindi pretty well and loves India, going to places where most westerners wont and behaves as a local pretty much.

Its a shame what's happened and the govt must have their reasons, hope the NZ authorities can help him out and he gets cleared to meet up with his wife soon.

It pays good if you have more than a million followers on Youtube. You can easily make a living in India.

I like this guy. He helped weed out those phone call scam centers many times in India.

But visa is a privilege, not a right.

I hope that some sort of arrangements are made in order to sort out the issue.

And being a part of a protest is a right too. Its pathetic that he is blacklisted only because he participated in the protests against the government.

protest is a right as long as it is sanctioned. For example, govt servants can not be a part of political movement or otherwise they may get terminated (CCS conduct rules).

In case of CAA, you stand in either way, there will be repercussions. Indians who opposed were ready to face the consequences.

Foreigners have limited privilege and one must understand the repercussions that may come under protest which can be defined as anti govt.

My advice, before going to protest, learn your jurisdiction first and gather the knowledge. Otherwise you may face circumstances which will be unhelpful to you.

As an aside, I think we need to talk about the phenomenon of white youtubers targeting primarily the Indian population. The common feature among them is that they'll do reaction videos on everything under the sun from movie trailers to random facts about India to even deaths of famous Indian celebrities, do food reaction taste test on some random snacks and say everything positively to please Indians. It even extends to travellers visiting every place in India and will be glowing with positivity in every video.

You can clearly see that they do it for the revenue making use of the huge Indian market. I mean, they would review the trailer of some random 3rd grade masala flick and say "very interesting, I'm interested to watch the movie. It looks fun as hell" which even we would cringe watching. There are some guys doing the same for the Pakistani market too but not as much as the ones who do for Indians. Not saying this guy is one of those, but the YouTube is filled with these kind of youtubers making use of the south asian population jackpot.

Correct me if i am wrong, but i think i read it somewhere (during the farmer protests) that the issue is that if a foreigner participates in any political rally or protests or any proselytizing in India, it can be grounds for rejection of a tourist/short term visa . So because he is a non-citizen he doesnt actually have rights to be physically part of a protest in India. Of course he can always tweet about them sitting in NZ.

Haha, you mean like Shoaib Akhter panders to the Indians😂

Haha, you mean like Shoaib Akhter panders to the Indians

No, he means when white YouTubers pander to the Indian audience. The same is with Pakistan when Dennis tries hard to fit in the Pakistan-India rivalry just to make money himself. There is that Australian girl too who keeps on talking in favour of India and it's annoying as hell.

I would put Shoaib Akhter & other ‘experts’constantly trying to put their team down to gain Indian viewership in the same category.

Plenty of Pakistani youtubers too doing fake as hell reviews and cashing in on it. I mean they even react on videos dissing Pakistan and videos like "Indian army weapons", which even I'd be uncomfortable watching with a Pakistani and they'd be like "wow yaar, I'm so impressed" or "it's so funny!".

But at least you can pardon Pakistani youtubers because they at least are connected to desi culture and know some things about India and its culture. But when you see some white guy sitting in his home in California and talking about how he can't wait to watch some random 3rd grade masala flick, you go in your mind like "yeah that's fake bruh".

He violated his visa conditions. Foreigners are not allowed to participate in any political or other protests.

Pakistan cricket also gives ample opportunities for Akhtar to bash them.

It is fake, but it's making these people money. You can't blame them for cashing in on desi desperation for white approval. It's cringey for sure, but the market is there so we have to blame the need of Indians or Pakistanis to need first world affirmation.

He is a foreigner. He cannot participate in protests in India. Thats against his visa conditions.

I admire this guy’s ethical stand, but he does come across as stupid. He violated his visa conditions to take a stand & is now crying foul for his visa getting rejected - i mean couldn’t he have thought about the repercussions earlier? If you are not a citizen of a country you will obviously not have the full rights & protections of a citizen - i mean if i have a Israeli stamp on my passport, i will not be able to question why my visa to an Arabic country is rejected. Their country, their rules - once you breach them, you cannot say my family life/ livelihood is getting impacted.

He seems to have been influenced by yoya.

So you do agree that India is a fascist dictatorship like China?

Lol what?

Foreigners are not allowed to interfere in India's affairs. He has nothing to do with India. As a foreigner when anyone comes to India on a visa he is not allowed to participate in any kind of political activity. How does that make any country fascist?

Why are they not allowed to interfere in India's affairs? Using the same logic, Foreigners should not be able to work or coach in India as well as they are interfering in India's affairs in one way or another? He has a lot to do with India, He has been living in India for six years and his wife and in-laws are Indians.

Enjoyed his videos in Pakistan. Seems a nice , fair chap who wants to promote both nations and also bring the people together.

According to him, he hasnt been given an official explanation, so we dont know if its due to him joining anti-government protest.

He has shown some negative issues of India, rightly so and also travelled to Pakistan. I think this is enough from this nationalist extremist government to stop him returning.

They both should move to Europe or NZ, far better places than India.

Depends on which visa you are in.

I was in student visa in Ukraine and hence I wasn't allowed to work. I can't protest why I am not given equal rights as Ukrainians since I was there in student visa in the first place.

foreigners can not and should not interfere with India's internal affairs regardless they share my views or opposite.

most travel vloggers come around, say nice things, rack up views then leave.

as mentioned above a lot is to do with desi desire for foreign approval, for a country like pakistan, which has had a lot of bad press over the last two decades it makes sense, pakistanis are keen to show the country is safe, and hospitible, etc, for india i dont understand the draw.

not including this guy in that list, i mean he practically lives in india now, but just saying.

Try doing what he did in "any" country. India was quite mild here. Would be arrested and deported for life in USA.

Not really. Canadian and British HW actors were always critical of Trump administration while working in United States and nothing happened to them.

Criticizing someone is different to participating in an unsanctioned protest against state. His act exposes him as someone with an agenda or motive for interference (potentially backed by state entities).

He should have done this under an NGO umbrella

Maybe he is working for the ISI? :genius

Thanks so much, how did I miss this.

Lol I know dozen internationals participating in rallies against trump, rallies for BLM etc etc. not every country is fascist like 2020s india

Working as a coach or working is a privilege of a work visa in India.

But no visa holder in India is allowed to be involved in political activities. Doesn't matter who his wife or in laws are. He is a foreigner and not an Indian. End of. Foreigners are not welcome to poke their noses in internal affairs of our country. Dont like the rules, dont come here.

We dont want foreigners meddling in our affairs. If Americans want that, its their problem.

I don't understand why should we copy anyone. We are perfectly capable of making our laws. If one doesn't like it, they are not welcome.

America is different - we have free speech as a basic right in our constitution for everybody without exception. Let alone any sub-continental country, even many European countries dont have that. How do you think Pakistan would have reacted had a westerner joined anti-Pak protests in Balochistan or wherever?

As i said earlier, the guy should have researched the implications of joining that protest. Not following local laws is dumb, especially if it means you cannot get a visa to see your family.

Even foreign NGOs cant indulge in politics. Congress govt sent green peace packing for the nuclear plant protests.

I agree on that. Similar thing would have happened with him in Pakistan that’s why I think no foreigner should live in a 3rd world country esp in South Asia if their job does not demand. He should look to stay in NZ or move to some country in Europe. Pakistan is not much better than India in this regard

He was in violation of atleast 3 laws.

Thanks.

All Indians or those related to Indians, coming from India who travel to the North are investigated, this is normal.

Knowing the ISI, they may have turned him, now he's working for them which is why the Indians have banned him from re-entering. :afridi

If he has family and permanently lives in India, then he must on a non tourist visa. More like a legal resident visa allowing him to work?
People commenting that his visa was revoked due to him taking part in protest that happened last year. Why did GoI wait until now to revoke it? Why not do it right away?

Where is he now? Bummer would have been if he was escorted out of Pakistan as well :sunhappy

India is a massive market. Their punters are also looking for approval from white people online. A video showing some respect or admiration for a random city/place in India by foreign bloggers get lots of views.

Just found out about this. You are right - US laws allow for foreigners participating in protests (many conditions apply). Too bad for those want the same laws in India - sorry.

Nothing about India surprises anymore.

It is a country obsessed with stooping lower every next day. Arguably the worst bunch of people too.

Lol how is India a democracy? if a western country just banned a permanent resident from another country then you can imagine the uproar.

He was on a tourist visa. He violated his visa restrictions. Both confirmed by the MEA.

The visa waa revoked when he left India.

Just like the IPL where the likes of the Slaters, Morrisons and Douls make an absolutely fortune by praising everything that is related to IPL and India....

He didn't apply for a spouse Indian visa because it would mean he would have to relinquish his NZ citizenship because India is the only backward county in the world that doesn't recognise dual citizenship.

Kind of ironic given half of India has been seeded by the West.

These are great insults - bravo!

Which 3 laws other than that stupid protest law?

Stupid protest law? So Indians have to allow foreigners to meddle in Indian affairs or its stupid?

He was in violation of the foreigners act 1946, foreigners act(amendment) 2004.

Some may say even sec 122vof IPC.

Lol how is India a democracy? if a western country just banned a permanent resident from another country then you can imagine the uproar.

There is nothing called permanent residency for foreigners in India. If one is not an Indian or a person of Indian origin, he isn't a permanent resident and he has very limited rights regards to his stay and entry into India.

I don't understand why should we copy anyone. We are perfectly capable of making our laws. If one doesn't like it, they are not welcome.

I’m replying to that guy lol who said every other country is equally fascist in curtailing free speech for foreigners

I think he made a mistake by putting everything in the Indian basket. Making a living off of content targeted at Indians, marrying an Indian, living in India - all is fine if you are an Indian citizen or OCI but India doesn't allow dual citizenship and doesn't have permanent residency. It would also be stupid to give up NZ citizenship for Indian citizenship.

To me it seems like he has to pivot, move back to NZ or another western country along with his wife. I know it's much easier said than done, because his livelihood will be significantly impacted. It appears his wife doesn't want to leave India either. But planning on living in any country for years or decades without citizenship or permanent residency is very risky.

I have not watched any of his vlogs. Just watched this one you had referenced. From the looks of it, he was pandering to the Indian audience (not sure how people are saying he is neutral). Starts off by posting slanted biased snippets from Indian & Australian media that puts out an impression of Pakistan being some sort of draconian police state. He ends it with throwing a hissy fit bad mouthing Government of Pakistan and its security apparatus and trudging towards his beloved India only to be denied entry LOL.

Don't let the door hit you on your beeeehind felecia.
