What's new

Indian govt has blocked my entry into country, blacklisted without reason: NZ blogger Karl Rock

I have not watched any of his vlogs. Just watched this one you had referenced. From the looks of it, he was pandering to the Indian audience (not sure how people are saying he is neutral). Starts off by posting slanted biased snippets from Indian & Australian media that puts out an impression of Pakistan being some sort of draconian police state. He ends it with throwing a hissy fit bad mouthing Government of Pakistan and its security apparatus and trudging towards his beloved India only to be denied entry LOL.

Don't let the door hit you on your beeeehind felecia.

Pakistan is a draconian police state esp for foreigners, They always need to have police surrounding them and they need to get NOC from the govt before travelling to different cities.

With respect to the videos, you guys are discussing an old video that's nearly 3 years old. He went back to Pakistan in late 2020, seems to have spent a lot of time all over Pakistan, seems to have enjoyed it and had no issues, and was showing the positive sides of Pakistan. He is still releasing videos from that trip.

Now as for what foreigners have to go through, the only time place I have seen them requiring security guards is Multan and Balochistan. It's not even close to as widespread as you suggest.

And similarly for NOCs, it's only required for Balochistan and perhaps for AJK. Again, don't blow things out of proportion.

Maybe it has changed in the last few years but watch this video

I would beg to differ. There are quite a few foreign youtubers that have ventured through majority of Pakistan without NY hassle. People like Mark Weins, Food Ranger GUY , Eva Zu Beck (the solo lady on a bike) to name a few. Nobody required any NOCs. Yes if you are venturing into FATa or near Gawader, you will be asked about the nature of your trip.

I have a colleague, who is an avid mountain climber here in Pacific Northwest. He wanted to go to the northern areas and experience the climbs there. I goT him in touch with guided expedition organizer in Islamabad. All they asked was a copy of his passport to start off the VISA process. Alas COVID interrupted the trip. Hopefully he will get to go to Pakistan soon.

So unless you have personal experience of foreigners being hassled by security in Pakistan, I will have to call you out on making an absurd claim.

Indians are a different category. Yes Indian nationals are required to have a detailed itinerary submitted and have to go register at a police station in each city they visit. This is due to reciprocity as India requires the same of Pakistanis visiting India.

Watch the video I posted above. All the people you are saying had government-sanctioned tour guides with them. If you try to travel alone in Pakistan, you can get into trouble.

She's a different vlogger and yes she has posted some videos that are critical in some ways, although not overly critical. But nevertheless, we can't attribute her videos to Karl Rock.

Karl Rock and nearly all the dozens upon and dozens of vloggers that have made videos in Pakistan in the last 3-4 years have been highly positive of Pakistan.

Very few of the recent vloggers were government sponsored. I don't believe Mark Wiens was government sponsored either. Many have mentioned explicitly in their videos they are not government sponsored.

I think majority of these are here on their own. Yes we have corruption. I can see people being hassled by cops or customs or immigration for a shake down but no sinister ISI details for each foreign arrivals.

He was sponsored too. By the government and all of the people you mentioned were invited to the Summit from which that poor girl was banned.

I unfortunately don't have time to go over all the entire video. But I have followed nearly all the vloggers that have visited Pakistan in the recent past. Here's what I can tell you:

1. Very few of them are/were government sponsored. That's generally an Indian talking point who want to see no positive news about Pakistan. The vast majority are not government sponsored.

2. Some vloggers posted more curated videos, others are more raw where they show all the positive and negative. None of the vloggers, especially that post raw videos, required security unless they were traveling in Multan or Balochistan. Most vloggers don't go to Balochistan anyway.
There may be an odd instance here or there but it's just Multan and Balochistan primarily.

3. It's a similar situation with NOCs like I mentioned.

Being invited to a summit isn't evidence one way or another. Unless there's evidence he was sponsored, I think we can assume he wasn't. I remember Eva Zu Beck and couple others were.

Besides, I am not sure why that matters either way. It's like buying advertising. Not sure what the issue is with sponsoring a few vloggers.

Yes, the list is dozens long. I have followed nearly all and I don't have a count. Many have mentioned they are not sponsored.

In any case, I think we can end this discussion because it's off topic.

It's my first time hearing about him. Our hindutva government is full of people with inferiority complex. Foreigners should avoid this country, let alone having a family here.

I've watched a few of his videos. He comes across as a nice guy but like many of his ilk, can be quite condescending at times. It was quite unnecessary for him to talk about corruption and political issues in India. Indians don't need a foreign blogger to tell them what their country is like. I doubt the Pakistanis would have been any more welcoming if a foreign blogger went there and commented about the ISI, the Army or Islam (god forbid).
My advice to these travellers - be respectful, enjoy yourself, get married to people from the countries you visit if you like, but don't make public comments about political issues that you have no clue about. Visiting a country and spending time there does not mean that you know all about how the place works. Every country has a history and underlying complications. Don't judge without understanding what you are judging.

That said, I do think barring him from India is a harsh step.

He lives in India and is married to an Indian therefore eligible for citizenship, why can't he constructively criticize a country he resides in and has ties with?

criticism he can.

But protesting in an unsanctioned protest is a different level.

Who told you he is eligible for citizenship? All he may be eligible for is a oci that too after 5 years of marriage and also depending on the discretion of the government.

He can do whatever he wants sitting in NZ. But living in India on a X2 tourist visa, he has to obey the rules.

criticism he can.

But protesting in an unsanctioned protest is a different level.

Add to that, he tried to visit restricted areas, most likely areas that require permits.

He also conducted business while on tourist visa.

He has many violations.

Best thing for him should be to settle with his wife in NZ and stay away from India. He can't please everyone here. :inti

This just shows you what an intolerant and unpleasant country India has become in this BJP era .. which is not exactly surprising when you have semi-literate sanghis like Amit Shah and Modi in charge.

So any foreigner can come, break rules and the government cannot do anything. Right?

The people have voted BJP to a majority and they will be in power till the people want.

The laws predate modi/shah, but but "Score"

There are rules and any visa you are issued, is based on you abiding by rules. I think he was seen in protest during CAA protests while on tourist visa. And that has violated the agreement. This might be or not true

It's same as some one protesting in Hong Kong or in USA for black lives matter, being on a tourist visa or transit visa.

Showing displeasure or voicing opinions are strictly for citizens who vote.

Strange post, India is nothing like others.

This video made me feel sorry for him, poor fella.

Any update on him?

My post was just highlighting that India is same like other countries. No different.
I hope Karl Rock is given a chance to explain his case and does what is necessary to join his family in India

Clear visa violation as yet his guy is playing dumb. Also, he was doing business itself in India, despite being on tourist visa itself which is bad enough. And that too for 10 years.

Nice video creator although. I remember his Pakistan experience with a barber. The barber made it awkward with how they are Muslims statements, and then charged him 2000 rupees. A reason why foreigners feel cheated in South Asia often...

I don’t know why he wants to live in India. He could live in NZ or an EU country which is much better than India. Millions of Indians would exchange their spot with him

Because he is doing business in India. And that too for 10 years on a tourist visa. That itself is wrong.

The question should be why millions of Indians watch foreigners describing their own-selves, be it food, street, culture? The worst are the reaction videos. Seeing foreigners react to XYZ Bollywood movie trailer and them getting millions of views from India. The vice versa would never work. Like Americans would not watch reaction video by Indians to some Hollywood trailer.

Have seen many of his videos. A very nice genuine guy and actually learned quite a lot about India from him which was actually pretty good and his videos on Pakistan are great. Gave both sides a chance to learn and visualize the livings.

It has to be triggered from his visit to Azad Kashmir. I had a feeling he will eventually get in trouble for it. Showing Pak side of Kashmir as a very nice and peaceful place was too much to handle for Hindudva. Afterall they constantly feed their population that Kashmir, Baltistan, Balochistan, even Karachi lol all wanting freedom from Pakistan and how our army is torturing and dictating citizens there 😂

Ban due to protest is likely just an excuse. Hopefully he will get back to his wife in India. He loves living there so they should appreciate and respect that. Nothing about India surprises me anymore, slippery slope down the hill ride since they got that tea seller and buffoon party in the office and their general population seems to be growing with hatred. Sad

When will pakistanis like you realise that everything around the world isnt based on pakistan.

The guy violated not one but 3 visa conditions. Two of them serious violations.

Thank god for the tea seller, he has made pakistan non existent in our policies so much so that the pakistani pm has to rant on twitter.

Aha non-existent that's why tea seller mentions Pakistan in all of his speeches for election and continues to do so. And that's why your media, Bollywood and you fans in general talk a lot more about Pakistan now be it on youtube comments, Facebook, Twitter, pakpassion etc. I think this is called obsession with Pakistan and not the non-existent you speak of. It's okay we know you folks are obsessed with us :)

There are so many threads on PP about India. Almost all of them by pakistanis. Wonder why?

The tea seller only mentions about pakistan, if he mentions it at all, when he talks about the security situation.

Pakistani PM talks about CAA, Ram Mandir, RSS, Indian muslims, none of which concerns pakistan.

Its clear who is obsessed with whom.

You must have your head buried in the sand, or be in denial. That's all the tea seller was talking about during the election campaign in 2019. Complete opposite reality of what you are suggesting.

All of which can be categorized as hindu nationalism. Indians talk frequently about conversions and how 23% of hindus are now 1% of the population (which is of course **). Again, head buried in the sand.

There was a terrorist attack before the 2019 elections. The UNSC banned Pakistanis for it. Wonder why he talked about it.

How is India being a hindu country pakistan's concern? One of the reasons of the partition was that we don't want to hear your advice.

Pakistan being a islamic country is not a problem. Why do you guys hate hindus? How we will run our country, is no concern of Imran khan, but ofcourse he is obsessed with deflecting issues towards Indis.

When 1000s of hindus from Pakistan come to India as refugees we have no option but to talk about them?

Its funny how Pakistanis are living in a islamic republic but point fingers at indians saying there is hindu nationalism. This is the biggest joke.

Point is, it's not just security issues Indians obsess over.

Point is, it's not just security issues Indians obsess over.

Even if India does want to obsess, but pakistan does not have much elements to be obsessed over. Even Indian muslims had to ask IK to not to obsess over them (during CAA saga) and let them deal their own problems.

He cares about India. A terrorist attack in India was carried out by a pakistani organisation, he mentions Pakistan for that.

But why make that 50% of your election campaign? There's no reasonable explanation for making that 50% of the election campaign.

Its only security issues. Nothing else. 1000s of refugees coming is a security issue too.

India doesn't have to let in those few 1000 refugees. It's complete hogwash.

Not to mention, obsession over CPEC, relationship with China, Pakistan's role in Afghanistan, capturing GB, etc.

Shouldn't the head of a state measure their words carefully?
You don't hear the head of Indian State speaking about internal issues in Pakistan unless it directly affects Indian security.
This communication breach was the main reason why Donald Trump was reviled as he broke norms and created massive headaches for the Oval office staff, other Republicans, foreign office posts and various US agencies.

He's released this now. I think he is trying to big up or promote India but poor chap has no clue. By saying India should trade with Pakistan wont go down well with the BJP government. The products look very poor, yet his eagerly wanting to hype them up. lol

Most of his videos are exposing Indian scammers, already the west hates and sees Indian as just that. It doesn't help the fact that Indian scammers are calling US and Canada over scams. So the BJP Bakhts and "Jai hind !!" will feel offended.

Yea that is what he is trying to do. To make Indians think how their third rated products are in demand by Pakistanis.

He has been banned now for 9 months from India, and you can see he has been doing this in alot of his videos. Especially the Jai Hind stunt.

Didn’t those things happen all before his ban? The ban happened last months and these videos were made few months ago.

Unless you think he knew the future and preemptively made these videos

He has been banned since October of last year. This is from his you tube page

The Government of India has separated me from my family in New Delhi by adding my name to their Blacklist without telling me, giving reasons, or letting me reply. I've been away from my wife @Manisha Malik and family for 269 days now. We've filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to request my name be removed from the blacklist so I can return home.

I left India to go travel Dubai and Pakistan in October 2020 and upon leaving they cancelled my visa at the airport. They wouldn't tell me why. So in Dubai I applied for a new visa. They called me in for a meeting and told me I had been blacklisted and therefore they couldn't issue me a visa to go home.

So yes he was banned even before any trip to Pakistan was made

So the ban has nothing to do with Pakistan.

Though perhaps you can say that it wasn’t the smartest thing to go to Pakistan after already being in bad books of Indian government

The probable cause is participation in unsanctioned protest. It will always have repercussions.

He visited restricted areas without a inner line permit.

He now has visited a great area in Pakistan, being able to meet his wife after such a long time.

Long live Karl and Long live Pakistan!

Meeting My Wife in Pakistan after 476 Days on India’s #Blacklist

so nice to see a video where Pakistan is the setting, but the video is not a promotion piece for Pakistan, its unfiltered, just every day activities, which in itself is enough to project Pakistan positively.

bollywood could turn this into a 3 hour musical, lol.

Karl is learning to read and write urdu. He's managed to pick it up quite nicely.

Unfortunately he needs to ask his wife to pack her bags and move with him to a third country.

I suppose it makes for engaging blog content but a man just cant travel the globe yearning for his wife.

He should leave India and then give make videos abusing Modi. He will get a lot of views from BJP trolls and make money in the process via views.

Then when congress is reelected he can return like the triumphant prodigal son.

It was very touching video. You can see both Karl and his wife are troubled they cant be united together. His wife seems to be Sikh, so lovely her prayers were answered and both met up in one of Sikhism's holiest sites.

If you know Hindu, Urdu isnt too tough to learn.

I disagree, I think he should continue his fight against the Indian government. If he wins, he will throw mud in their face and he seems confident on winning in the courts. However if he wins, I worry for his and his families safety esp as his face is well known. RSS will for sure, try to attack him with words or worse.

I was thinking the same, there is defo a movie to be made out of this. Bollywood may not but some English movie could do well.

Do you feel like DV, he should move out to a 3rd nation or stay and fight?

Nah man its quite difficult even if you know hini. Its a completely different script and style of writing. Hindi to me looks like hieroglyphics, and id imagine to an Indian looks the same.

Fair play to him for being committed enough to learn it, despite it being of very little use to him in his day to day life.

He should keep his wife with him and fight from outside. Lifes too short to waste time estranged from loved ones, especially when the object of the fight is to get into a third world country run by a maniac.

if I was in his position knowing my wife and her family are in India I wouldn't antagonise politically, its obvious he's aware of that which is why he says there's some issues he wont talk about. honestly, i think if there was any chance his wife would leave India they'd be long gone.

Karl Rock was born a foreigner but from the inside he's a Bharatiya and i sense a Sanatani connection with his ancestors.

That's good.

Not sure what the ban was about.
Visa violations by doing business is the cited reason.
In reality it could be because he participated in CAA protests while being on visitor visa and posting those posts/ videos online.

Either ways, he broke tourist visa norms.
