Lol she did not even fact check the job offer and has been running around calling herself a Harvard professor for months.

Last year, Nidhi Razdan announced she was leaving her job as a lead anchor at NDTV after 21 years at the Indian broadcast news station to teach journalism at Harvard University.

Over the past few months, she appeared at numerous virtual events identifying as an associate professor of journalism at Harvard.

The only problem? Harvard doesn’t have a journalism department, or any journalism professors.

The job offer, it turns out, was a hoax.

Razdan, a renowned TV journalist, says she was the victim of a “sophisticated and coordinated phishing attack.” In a statement Friday, the 43-year-old described how she was led on by the fake job offer over the course of the last six months, initially dismissing certain “anomalies” as a part of the “new normal” amidst the COVID-19 pandemic until the truth came out.

After announcing that she was leaving her longtime home at NDTV in June, Razdan said she believed she would begin teaching at Harvard in September, but later learned her purported start date would be delayed.

“While I was making preparations to take up my new assignment, I was later told that due to the ongoing pandemic, my classes would commence in January 2021,” she wrote. “Along with these delays, I began noticing a number of administrative anomalies in the process being described to me. At first, I had dismissed these anomalies as being reflective of the new normal being dictated by the pandemic, but recently the representations being made to me were of an even more disquieting nature.”

Razdan said she reached out to “senior authorities at Harvard University for clarity” and shared the correspondence that she had received. Apparently, they weren’t actually coming from the prestigious Cambridge university.

“After hearing from the University, I have now learnt that I have been the victim of a sophisticated and coordinated phishing attack,” she wrote. “I did not, in fact, receive an offer by Harvard University to join their faculty as an Associate Professor of Journalism. The perpetrators of this attack used clever forgeries and misrepresentations to obtain access to my personal data and communications and may have also gained access to my devices and my email/social media accounts.”

It’s unclear who was behind the scam. Razdan said she filed a police complaint and separately wrote to Harvard urging “them to take the matter seriously.” Harvard did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday morning.

Razdan, who later tweeted to her nearly 900,000 followers that she was “overwhelmed” by the subsequent groundswell of support, said she wouldn’t be further addressing the incident on social media.

“I hope that the police are able to get to the bottom of this attack on me at the earliest and help me bring this unsavoury incident to a swift end,” she wrote.

There are numerous questions here. She said she went to the US to teach in Harvard.

1) what kind of Visa did she get if she was a victim of a fraud?

2) what was she doing in the US after going there?

3) why did it take her soooo long ( almost a year) to find out?

Clearly she is hiding something to lessen her embarrassment.

Also i heard she didnt want to put out a statement but Harvard has forced her to do it.

Typical indian journalist. Doesn't verify news and believes in anything which fits with their narrative. Skepticism only when it goes against narrative.

Lol this is embarrasing but I wouldn't be surprised if she was lying.

A lot of Indians over here have fabricated resumes and there are even Indian recruiters working over here that help falsify Linkedin profiles and sometimes even help them cheat the interview stage, unfortunately this fraud is really common in the IT field.

I think this is another case of visa fraud. Madplayer

You think she would give up her anchoring job for visa fraud?

There was a report I read that people who run these fake scams earn MILLIONS every MONTH and its a big business back home. I also watched a very interesting podcast from an Indian himself who used to ran this stuff and then reported it after he realised its too much of a scam defrauding people.

It doesn't a matter, a potential greencard of the most powerful country in the world is worth more than that for some.

What lol do you know how long the line is for GC for Indian born citizens.

Also am glad you think USA is powerful coz u seem awfully quiet in threads where British Pakistanis keep taking a dig on America the country.

lol yeah, they've even set up fake companies over here along with fake institutions that issue fraudulent degrees. Even the 4 major Indian tech companies have been long used as immigration scams, people will accept a mediocre lowpaying entry level job as long as they can get a greencard.

That's exactly why it's so long, there are so many applicants.

How many I-140s do you think the 4 major Indian tech companies have filed and now compare that to major US tech companies.

Below is the list — among 10 top only 2 Indian companies, now change your goal post .

Don’t worry line will reduce soon thanks to ppl like you voting Biden Harris :)

I could care less, I support people escaping a poor overpopulated country for a better life. So I wouldn't wish ill on any Indian in spite of our differences and their ethically compromising ways of getting here.

It does matter. She is a powerful left wing journalist earning crores. Girlfriend of a very powerful politicians. Green card lol.

Seems like an extensive and well crafted plan which has deceived her. Surely the work of pros.

Can you explain how a visa fraud works? she said she did go to the US. She must have had a work visa or permit or something?? Wouldnt the US authorities have noticed something wrong?

Good to know, I’m sure they will be thankful for your contribution to Biden Harris campaign, can’t wait till they change the demographics of your city and then you can whine about it.

My city's demographics have already changed lol.

She will most likely get a life ban even if they suspect a little fraud, it's going to be very hard for her to convince US immigration officials that she was a 'victim' of a 'phishing attack'.

Dont think there is any phishing attack here. Its an escape route from a possible lawsuit against her.

May be she went on a visitors visa to check out her future employer. Not that difficult to get a tourist visa.

She covered the US elections for NDTV - she would have already had a visa to enter the US for work purposes.

I have had a few bad experiences with prospective employers where they have made verbal offers of employment and told me to resign, serve my notice period and then come in to work for them. Both times they did not send me the offer letter and i told them i am not going to do anything until i review the offer letter and sign it. In the end they backtracked and were like they had a last minute applicant who was a better fit.

Never ever take someone's word, always demand things in writing.

However you can only use that visa for its intended purposes and for that particular sponsor, if she used it to work for another company then that's a violation and a life ban is inevitable.

lol I question her IQ levels if she seriously thought she was getting a job offer from Harvard, like her journalistic credibility have taken a hit cause she clearly doesn't know to verify news/job offers lol. She should be embarrassed.

Looking at her wikipedia page, she has never even studied in America and she thinks she was going to get hired at the best university in the world :))

Speaks volumes of her investigative skills.

How come Harvard didn't pick up on this earlier and investigate the error?

What's funny is that she thought she didn't need a work visa to work for Harvard as if she was an American citizen. It's like she has no idea what work permits and the labor condition application is. I feel like even a college kid could do better research.

In that regard, she probably thought the visa formalities would begin closer to her supposed date of joining. Plus there has been Covid and all these travel bans so enough fodder for any phisher to throw some clouds over everything.

I wonder if the intention of the scammer was money, or just humiliation.

No whats funny is:
Harvard doesn’t have a journalism department or any journalism professor as said in the article.

Still got her timing decently right as it's come parallel to the #ArnabGate thing.

I dont think thats how it works.

If it does, and she went there on a tourist visa, what was she doing there for such a long time? Why didnt she find out.

Scammer? Lol lets not make her out to be a victim. She was likely the scammer and trying to push her career for whatever reason, seems like she was selling webinars and workshops while titling herself as "Associate Professor at Harvard".

I doubt that she would do it. She is a very popular public figure in India and tbh doesnt seem to be the kind of woman who would do something like this. At best, she was exaggerating about things but i believe she is really a victim of a fraud.

Having said that, stranger things have happened and saints have turned out to be devils before. So, you never know for sure.

Famous people in india suffer from Dunning-Kruger effect and think they are world famous. When she got the offer, she didn't show scepticism as she thought she is too good and it is natural that harvard will send her an offer out of the blue.

True :)) it is unbelievable how a woman like her can fall for it. Just goes to show how smart the digital thugs out there are.
