IndiaTV Sting: Allegations Against the Players

This all looks ridiculous at first glance...a whole lot of hearsay with very little substance regarding our own players...

On everything so far...all they have so far is the word of some umpires...

Nadir Shah said Jamshed fixed matches...his word isn't proof...

Minhazuddin Khan said Mahmood fixed matches...his word isn't proof...

Minhazuddin Khan said Afridi, Shehzad and Naved used to take home hookers...his word isn't proof... and why is it relevant to a sting on fixing?...

What are the laws regarding libel and defamation?...if I was these guys I would think about suing...the umpires in question and IndiaTV for revealing names when they have nothing but the words of some dodgy umpires...

This sums it up so far

any player found fixing should be banned for life

cant really make much of a deal about the call girl thing because im sure its an allegation, doubt the two married men would do that

The channel may be complete rot but so was the News of the World............

Too right bro - what goes on tour stays on tour!!!!!

Yep, has always been the case, and always will be between male friends in these situations. 'But he's an adult/role model/Muslim' is no realistic logic or outlook here. Do people really think that a lad's tour where in between games they have an abundance of time, money and attention in exploring a different culture is going to stay 'clean'?

Mistresses, strippers and call girls are nothing new. In fact I would say it's a bigger problem that the intimate details of individuals' private lives are being outed in such a way. Press parties themselves are all about mingling and doing lines of cocaine off shiny plates - it's the worst kind of hypocrisy.

Sleeping with women on tours is not a crime.

But, eyebrows are bound to raise because that means that certain 'People' have got access to players. And that access may be used for different motives.

I am surprised to hear that some people are so naive that they are generalizing sleeping with women, and a cricketer on tour sleeping with a women as same. What they should understand that bookies always try and get into the player's proximity, and keep trying to provide them with 'Favors'. And those favors may be like gifting Expensive watches, clothes, some Pom-pom etc.

And the same bookies later try and get 'something' back from the players. If the players easily fall into the line, it's fine. Or else, they may be threatened, or even blackmailed.

Basically anything around the players that involves money, cannot be ruled out as 'Nothing new' or 'personal lives'.

the news seems masala...but allegation of fixing against jamshed in the bpl is not new..infact his passport was confiscated by the local police...the news below was published on the Wed Feb 29 2012 before jamshed was an international hit...

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/p...oard-following-arrest-of-pak-national/918184/

"In another development, the passports of two Pakistani players, Nasir Jamshed and Rana Naved, have apparently been confiscated by the Bangladesh police authorities."

The country who is apposed to DRS is India. It's well documented that Indian players are also against DRS. Seems like match fixing and not having DRS benefits India.

DRS has to be mandatory after this controversy..When we see plumb LBWs not being given out and some well pitched outside leg and going over the top(like Nasir Jamshed's semi final) being given out then it gets frustrating for us fans..

Nasir Jamshed Threatens Legal Action Against BD Umpire

LAHORE: Nasir Jamshed, the Pakistani batsman, threatened to take a legal action against a Bangladeshi umpire over match-fixing allegations.

In a sting operation by an Indian TV channel, Bangladeshi umpire Nadir Shah accused Jamshed of fixing matches in the Bangladesh Premier League (BBL).

Speaking to reporters in Lahore, the stylish batsman rejected the allegations and threatened to take legal action.

He said that he could not think bringing bad name to the country. SAMAA

Guys just a reminder to keep the discussion on topic, there is no need to post allegations on boards, teams and other players.

Investigate and if anyone proven guilty , banned for life.

Guys lets not start throwing mud at the players regarding "call girls" as nothing has been proven. It's not about being a Muslim or not, it's about allegations and nothing more.

It's like spreading rumours on here and saying something about a user but not having anything to back-it-up. Surprised by some of the replies about "what happens on tour, stays on tour", when in fact all we know are the umps are talking crap.

Here we go again!
I don't even react when Pakistan lose. Not anymore. Gone are the days when I used to cry over a stupid close match (Sydney Test 2010).

Things like these made me distance myself from cricket. It's a dirty game. The funny thing is how everything is made to be so 'fair' and perfect. Especially the ICC which has wool over its eyes.
I'm not sure whether I believe in this or not. But I won't really be surprised if its true. If a guy like Salman Butt can be a dirty cheat, then I'm sorry, you can't trust any 'innocent' person in cricket. You don't know any of these people regardless of how many matches or interviews you have watched or books you've read on them. They may seem like good people but they may be not. They may seem arrogant or corrupted but in reality they may be not.

Slating them or defending them is completely pointless. 'He isn't like that..he can't do such a thing.' or 'I always knew he was shady and I KNOW he is guilty' is completely stupid without proper evidence.

/rant.

PS: I'm posting after ages.

ALso India TV would have loved indian names, it would make bigger news in India. But they cant since we don't need to fix these matches (Gone are days of 90s)

Well if this sting was done during BPL, not surprising that Indian Players are not targetted. They werent there.

As for Indian Umpires, apparently they arent good enough for BPL either :)

On the main topic, I dont know what to say. This is a case of "He said that......." ie - third person allegations, effectively, cannot be proved. So, I am pretty sure, no players are going to get burned by this here. The named umpires might get burned one way or other.

On the call girls thing, I would rather shake my head and leave it at that.

Even if they are totally innocent, none of these players (or umpires) will ever take legal action on this particular issue using libel and defamation laws.

You may ask "why not?".

Because if/when they enter the courtroom those that they are accusing of libel and defamation will bring up any and every sordid detail, rumour, allegation, hearsay, tax-fiddle, infidelity and gossip that they can get teams of private investigators to locate or uncover.

Considering that the court cases(s) will probably need to be brought in India, or possibly in Bangladesh/Sri Lanka/Pakistan, the defence could even find 'witnesses' who will be prepared to testify (for a brown envelope or two).

These accused might be innocent of these particular allegations, but, boy oh boy, I'll bet there is plenty of unsavoury stuff that they would prefer to keep hidden from the ICC, the local tax-authorities, the public and fans, and even their own families.

So no libel actions - take my word for it.

I would also add that the players are probably not innocent of these particular allegations. However there is insufficent evidence so far to pursue any kind of conviction or punishment.
2 different things.

I tottally agree with this. This is how I feel.

I would say to watch it as a game of cricket is fun. Having a bit of innocence is a gift rather then just being aware of everything (even if it is happening). I think our board should take legal action rather then Jamshaid him self because end of the day he is representing Pakistan and he is employee of PCB.

I personally think at least one or more the named persons are not innocent. How did India TV know whom to bait and trap?

My guess is they have tried to trap several dozens of umpires and players - and it is likely that most of the people refused to be engaged in this sort of business, due to fear or conscience. Some people took the bait and were caught red handed on tape. Only six names turned up, but it is likely that India TV had tried to sting many more unsuccessfully.

Bangladesh’s prominent cricket umpire Nadir Shah passed away on Friday morning at a City hospital after battling with a prolonged cancer .He was 57.

Nadir officiated in six Tests, 63 ODIs and three T20I and was regarded as one of the finest umpires and popular figures in the cricketing fraternity.

Nadir, who was born in an aristocrat family in Dhaka, made his international umpiring debut back in 2006 at Bagura, where hosts Bangladesh took on Kenya in an ODI match. Nadir’s brother Jahangir Shah Badhsah was a very prominent cricketer in 80’s.
