So finally found a small qurbani ka bakra to sacrifice...

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday allowed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan a free hand to probe and expose those behind leaking a controversial news story that the military has termed a ‘serious breach of national security’.

In their second meeting in the last 24 hours at the Prime Minister’s House, both of them agreed to investigate the matter thoroughly in order to remove any mistrust between institutions, sources said.

According to them, Nisar took Premier Nawaz into confidence over development in the ongoing probe and the latter gave him free reign to investigate and expose those responsible for leaking the news, which both the government and military have denounced as ‘fabricated’.

Sources said some key government functionaries are suspected to have been involved in the leak, which has shaken up civil-military relations.

They said security agencies have already increased surveillance of some key Prime Minister’s House officials, adding that the government also has some clues to the possible source or sources of the report.

No government functionary or politician has so far been placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) in connection with the controversial news report carried by Dawn newspaper, sources close to the relevant authorities told The Express Tribune on Sunday.

The federal government is currently investigating the source of the controversial story by journalist Cyril Almeida which sent tremors through the country’s civil and military leadership. The interior ministry placed only Almeida on the no-fly list in connection to the inquiry, although he was removed from the ECL after a few days as well when the move invited much criticism from both local and international circles.

Even so, the sources said security agencies are monitoring the movement of some Prime Minister House officials round the clock.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in his last news conference on Thursday said two to three persons other than Almeida were on the government’s radar in connection with the probe about who gave the journalist the story.

The minister at the time said that those two or three suspects will not be allowed to travel abroad either. He added that the inquiry would be wrapped up in four days and vowed that those behind the ‘inaccurate’ story would be brought to justice.

Nawaz Sharif tried this BMW thing on Army Chief Asif Nawaz Janjua back in early 90s and the offer was declined.

Pervez Rasheed sacked. He is no more information minister. Looks like qurbani is just halal for small bakras
Abdullah719 we need a title update.

Information Minister Parvez Rasheed has resigned from his position as Minister for Information and Broadcasting, DawnNews reported Saturday.

Newss channels quoted sources as saying that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked Pervez Rashid to resign from his post.

The development comes after the publication of Dawn story "Act against militants or face international isolation, civilians tell military", which reports details of a high level civil-military meeting discussing the issue of Pakistan's banned outfits.

Sources also said Rashid's portfolio was taken away after a prelimanry inquiry was launched by Interior Minister Ch Nisar. They added that the premier has ordered a formal inquiry as to whether Rashid was involved in the leak.

The Prime Minister's Office had rejected the story, but the military maintained the story had been "leaked" and demanded a probe into the matter.

In an Editor's note, Dawn clarified its position and stated on the record that the story "was verified, cross-checked and fact-checked."

Earlier this month, participants of a corps commander meeting expressed serious concern over what they said was "feeding of false and fabricated story of an important security meeting held at PM House and viewed it as breach of national security.

Media reports also stated Saturday that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has left for Dubai with his family. However, the reasons behind his decision to travel are unclear and it is not clear whether it is connected to the probe of the Dawn story.

Spokesman of Prime minister saying Pervez Rasheed was behind that news. In others news Defense Minister Khawaja Asif left for Dubai with his family. Interesting development but why limit to small bakras to protect big guns!

Maryam Nawaz left PM house and is now in Raiwind.

No worries.

Title is directly from Dawn - article says "News channels quoted sources as saying that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked Pervez Rashid to resign from his post."

Well if it stops his from coming on our tv screens every evening and forcibly reducing the collective IQ of the country by exhibiting his stupidity, then I'll take it however small it maybe

Bara bol bolna walay ka munh kaala :)

In other news Khawaja Asif who called Sheikh Rasheed a chooha for running from police has fled Pakistan with his family.

I am not one of those who encourages fauj to interfere in civilian matters but i can totally see where they are coming from. They have been fighting the terrorists sacrificing their lives while civilians (including PTI and PMLN) werent even in favour of attacks are still letting banned outfits roam free and hold rallies. How can they leak private information and make it sound like fauj is protecting terrorists and civilian government is forcing them to take action. Irony is Rana Sanaullah (LeJ linked criminal) is one of those who leaked this news.

Was listening to Dr. Shahid Masood yesterday and he said the Dawn leaks were a small thing in actuality some other more sensitive info was leaked which seriously threatened national security. Now don't know if that is made up or not, but the way Shahbaz and crew were begging from chief suggests that something more sinister is going on.

Heard some video/audio clips were leaked from security meetings.

Good to see another Masood fan.:D

We want princess i hope Army don't allow princess to run away...All others are just bakras

Lone knows that Army does not want Princess because she is a daughter, a Women and is sacred Cow in the Culture of the Country and is from the Elite class aswell.

They just want Media cell to be closed and the Bakraaz to be handed to them.

Again Law is not equal for All.

poor stuff.

THis should never had happened in a Democratic country.

Army shouldn't be allowed to do this, the govt could declassify any documents it wants

what if the "Democratic" govt wants to declassify/share the National Intrest Documents to some other country ?

In a democratic govt, the pm and govt isn't answerable to the army.

The problem here is Nawaz thinks he isn't even answerable to awaam and parliament (that is what happens in real democracy). Going by his thinking awaam give you a free license to do everything for the next 5 years so you can murder people and make as much money as you want.

America is a real democracy and i hope you know how they handle national security related issues?

should army be taking action? Or should it be the people to take the action?

What did King Nawaz do when people took action to raise awareness about his corruption?
Unleash his gundas to start a crackdown, of course! :nawaz

should army be taking action? Or should it be the people to take the action?

If the govt itself involved in the national security leaks, and when the PM house is the Crime Scene thn whos gonna take action ?

Looks like some people here don't know the difference between 'State' and 'Government'. Govt is answerable and the powers are not unlimited. When Govt is doing blunders after blunders there comes a time when Institutions have to step up and stop them.

Parvez Rashid has been scapegoated.

Yes it should not have leaked, but that is besides the point. He is one of the suspects and in a meeting yesterday, it was 'directed' that someone has to pay for the audacity so Pervaiz Rashid, a poor man amongst the richest was put to the guillotine.

There is going to be an inquiry now by 3 folks - one each from the ISI, MI and of course an IB fellow.

Having said that this 'clash' should not have leaked but come to think of it no nuclear sites were compromised, no state secret was divulged, the whole world knows these facts so what was it then? Can it be anything more than to punish the government for the audacity to even suggest such a thing and Pervaiz Rashid to then leak this top secret activity?

Any way, I hope the military is somewhat pacified or maybe they want the PM to rub his nose on the dirt, time will tell.

My sympathies are with the man.

On another note, is this the PML-N's way to mend its broken relationship with the Army? Considering Imranullah Khan Niazi is trying to instigate a coup.

Firing him might just be a way to remind the public that the Military is number one.

No coup is happening under Raheel that's for sure he had enough of the chances and reasons to do it in 3 years times more thn any other army chief of past but he always stayed away (can't say anything about new chief).

I think Est want Shareef to step down now and make someone like Ch Nisar the PM till 2018. But going by history i don't think zidi Nawaz is going to step down even if they show him the proofs that his daughter was the mastermind behind those leaks sitting in PM house and she can only do it on instructions of her father. Shehbaz i noticed since the comeback in 2008 is trying too hardt to be a buddy of army and replace their man Ch Nisar.

In last 6 months or so i noticed Dar is also trying to get in the good books of army but i don't think it's going to work. Remember he was a PM candidate once for Musharraf but Shareef family stopped him...Ameen Faheem was another PM candidate but bibi stopped him...

So no action should be taken against traitors unless nuclear codes are leaked? What if army & government is deliberately not telling everyone what was leaked and what wasn't because of security reason (and for government face saving)?

Army is being lenient on government by not taking against Maryam yet. The trial against all of the people involve in leaking closed doors meeting should've been started already.

About time Nawaz neuters the army like his younger brother's idol Erdogan did.

Ch Nisar press conference today was probably one of the worst. Even typical MQM PCs look better thn this...

Did he personally write a letter to you saying that?

So basically if your last name is not Bhutto or Sharif then you cannot be PM of Pakistan? Democracy zindabad.

About time Nawaz neuters the army like his younger brother's idol Erdogan did.

Erdogan is a popularly elected leader, with no corruption charges against him and entire Turkish nation backs him.

Nawaz on the other hand is a looter and a plunderer.

Cannot compare an apple with an avocado..

One thing that has happened with this Nov 2 saga and associated drama, is that the MQM London - Pakistan fight has subsided (or died down in the media)

My concern is that, that snake Altaf Hussian will be left of the hook and he will again rule the roost in Karachi.

Did he personally write a letter to you saying that?

Don't need a letter; a bit of critical thinking and awareness of the situation will do the job. Imranullah Khan Niazi has been clamoring for the Umpire (Army) to intervene for years because he wants to use it as a springboard to the PM House, and only recently he publicly claimed that the people of Pakistan will support a coup. For a so-called democratic leader, it was a pathetic statement.

Imranullah Khan Niazi's biggest ambition and purpose in life today is to depose Nawaz, and he rightfully understands that the military is the only institution that can make it happen in a matter of days if it wants to.

It is Pakistan's good fortune that Gen. Raheel Sharif has a democratic mindset and is uninterested in taking over because he knows that it will not be good for Pakistan in the long run, and that martial law has achieved nothing for the country in the past.

agree with you. A lot of Pakistanis here don't understand democracy.

Finally some scapegoat found...politicians in India and Pakistan have no difference except in India no politician is afraid of Army.

agree with you. A lot of Pakistanis here don't understand democracy.

exactly, this is why imran says that if coup happens in Pakistan tommarow, Pakistani's would be distributing mithais everywhere

exactly, this is why imran says that if coup happens in Pakistan tommarow, Pakistani's would be distributing mithais everywhere

PPP distributed mithai when Nawaz was thrown out and PMLN distributed it when Bibi govt was derailed thanks to their efforts. So basically these champions of democracy show this sweet path to the rest of awaam...

Sir will you plz enlighten us whats the "Democracy" ?

Nawaz Shareef's Attack On Supreme Court

bygones be bygones. lets concentrate on the subject of his thread.

Army cannot be allowed to force a representative of an elected government to resign. Period. If a crime is done then its courts jobs to take such decisions not army. This is Democracy 101 and I am feeling stupid to still teaching this basic stuff to you.

what are you ? a kid or what ? You are naive if you think that Supreme Court will address the national security issues. last time SC try to raise the issues infront of King NS and it got attacked. This is NooraCracy 101. i am feeling stupid to teach you about basic stuff of NooraCracy. NS nature is like Scorpion, it will not gonna Change. Unfortunately NS cant attack GHQ.

In a democratic govt, the pm and govt isn't answerable to the army.

Lol a democratic government is not answerable

For their corruption
For murdering unarmed protestors
For rigging
For leaking national interest documents
For appointing corrupt individuals as head of all institutions

Not being answerable to any of the above is called DEMOCRACY....ONLY IN PAKISTAN!

OK let's ignore Nawaz Sharif's past where he conspired against Benazir government twice to take power, got trianed under GENERAL Zia and GENERAL Jilani. Let's forget he made IJI and accepted money from ISI to topple democratically elected government and let's forget his attack on Supreme courts and all that.

Even if we forget his past, what is he currently doing as democratic leader? Just in case you missed all the news, democratically elected Prime Minister is refusing to answer any questions raised by ALL parties after Panama leaks. About 30 countries are investigating those leaks, 1 PM has resigned, 1 has cleared his name in parliament. Not to forget democratically elected government attacked and killed 14 people injuring dozens in Model town last year. Let's not even go into democratically elected government using every rigging technique imaginable to steal mandate.

It think most people here will feel stupid to teach you there is no democracy is here, this is tyranny and fascism, worse then any dictatorship.

Heck compared to this even Zia's era feels more democratic and Musharrafs era must have been proper democracy, atleast we got free speech and media then, not even containers where used to block protests that led Musharraf out the door. Suddenly Mush seems demoracticly elected while Nawaz seems like a military dictator.

Off course to public unless you don't consider opposition parties as general Pakistan public? Public's democratically elected representatives presented a bill in parliament to investigate corruption exposed by Panama leaks but government ignored it, PMLN MPAs voted against the bill in KPK assembly. Point is when you consider yourself to be bigger than any other force and refuse to even investigate murders of innocent people then people look towards ANY institution that can possibly control you.

Of course a government is answerable. To courts and proper due process. They are not answerable to a mob which wants to put their favorite in their place. That is just anarchy.

This is the same government which has attacked the Supreme Court and also the same government which is refusing to investigate any irregularities. The Mob infact has offered them that their ''favorite'' be investigated under the same terms as the PM, which was rejected for obvious reasons. Mob's danda is all they understand. The PM wanting to choose the committee which would investigate him pretty much moves how sincere they are.

Oh how cute :)

Read the whole thread to know why people are protesting, funny how conveniently people overlook dozens of respones explaining why things have got to this.

Just on Panama leaks, thousands anarchists came out on streets in Iceland & Brazil and forced their leaders to resign. Courts and institutions FAILED to act as most are run by Sharif's favourites. Even Supreme court only took the case AFTER the announcement of these protests.

Now you will conveniently run away :)

Even before the courts, they are answerable to the people's representatives, AKA opposition.

Opposition = PTI

Opposition has been asking to investigate the Panama Leaks for 7 months, yes they gave them a leeway of SEVEN months. The government showed no inclination of investigating the leaks, what other option does the opposition have in that case?
