Would you personally prefer an iPhone over a Galaxy Note 8? I've been thinking of getting one for myself lately. The iPhone, while amazing, is more of a status symbol than anything else. I'm really confused which one to opt for.

Your suggestions would be really welcome.

GN8 would be my choice, I wouldn;t touch Apple till the time they get 4GB RAM in there.

If you're more of a guy who likes to keep his phone for a good 3-4 years before changing then iPhone 8/X would be the best choice.

Otherwise for all the other requirements, nothing is better than the Note 8. Be it camera, display, battery life, performance, multi-tasking, music playback............the list goes on.

Even the headphones that you get with the Note 8 are the premium AKG tuned earphones (this trend started with the S8) which are much much better than EarPods.

And last but not the least, you get a HEADPHONE JACK for a change :shh:shh:shh

Plus the iPhone costs around Rs. 20,000 more. It's more of a gimmick.

I have the S7, I am more than happy with it. iPhone seems like super-expensive junk to me.

Their processors/rams are the fastest ones in phones. Their 2GB can carry much more of data in one loop as compared to 4/6GB of Androids.

It's rumored that Galaxy s9 will be announced by Feb/March of 2018. It'll be worth waiting, I believe. And it's strongly rumored to be a vastly superior phone compared to it's predecessor.

I am expecting Samsung to introduce a fold-able phone next year will get the 2nd version of that in 2019 when my current 2 year contract is up. I went with the S8+ after comparing it with the note 8. I didn't feel it the extra $150-200 more was worth it. Sadly google announced that they will be releasing Pixel 2 in Singapore the week after I renewed my contract. I would have preferred that over S8+.

You don;t think I know that but when your phone runs out of memory what happens? I hope you know the answer to that, also their SoC is the fastest, RAM has nothing to do with it anyway they mostly use Samsung LPDDR4.

Iphone all the way over samsung.

I tried a samsung once when i got S3, and after 6 months it started freezing so much that since then i have stayed far from them as possible.

If you want a phone to use for at least 2 years, iphone is the only option as it will run as good as it did on day 1. samsungs and the rest are like disposable phones, ok for 6 months then they start crashing.

Been firmly in the Iphone camp for some time (used a 5S for 2 years), now about to switch to Galaxy S7. .

Any S7 users here ? how's it holding up in 2017 ?

Gifted one to my girl barely weeks ago. It was when Flipkart was offering massive discounts. She's loving it.

Its too good you won't ever regret it.

I believe I opened a thread asking for opinion on which phone to buy last November. I bought the S7 Edge then. Its still working as perfectly as it was since day 1.

And for all Samsung haters who haven't touched Samsung since S5 should have a look at the phones after S5 instead of comparing today's Samsung phones with the S3.

Anything can run out of memory, even my laptop with 16G of RAM does.

And even if SoC/Processor are not directly related to RAM's performance, there can be a noticeable difference with optimized CPU. Its like storing a command in a language which requires lesser words/space to express a command.

I just bought one from my uncle, probably used around 6-7 months. Holding good so far. I am worried about its sealed battery, once it goes swollen the phone will become junk as its not even removable.

You cannot compare S3 with newer iPhones. Its about doing more with your phone even if it hangs a bit.

Was, but Nokia, BB and Motorola kept sleeping whereas Apple and Samsung understood the reality.

Internal division + CIA gameplan to take Non-US manufacturer out of the game was the reason. Otherwise Symbian was >>>> Android.

They can't compare higher than S3, because even S5-S6 had more features than the Iphone X :))

I have both. Iphone for work and note 8 for personal use. Prefer iphone over note because of battery life and simplicity of use. Note 8 has too many features that I don't need.

Yes & for that we have a pagefile, what's the equivalent on an iphone & you;re comparing 2/3GB ram (shared with GPU) to 16GB?

The CPU isn;t optimized, it;s the OS which is, in this case iOS is also 64bit so why would it require less address space?

The SoC is undoubtedly best in class, but it cannot be a replacement for (less) RAM.

They're still giving huge discounts and additional bank discounts on Diwali. Ordered the 32 GB S7 for 21000 Indian rupees net(got 7000 INR for exchanging my Iphone 5S, which is a 4 year old design! so brand value does matter ).

I was thinking about going for the Iphone SE, because I loved the 5S's size and design (prettiest Iphone EVER ), and the 5 year software update/support cycle of Apple was unmatched (SE would be supported till 2021) . But Flipkart and amazon were giving only 4000 for exchanging the 5s with other Iphone models . Then I found about the S7. Water resistance was a huge plus for me (Kerala guy, now living in flooding bangalore ) , and I tend to take my phone to my workouts.

Though the S2 and S3 were bonafide Android greats, the S4 and later S5 did give Samsung a bad rep (atleast in India ) for the bloated software and Touch Wiz which would cause the phone to start freezing/slowing down withing half a year. They did win the edge back with the S6 and AFAIK I've only heard great things about the S7.

By CPU I meant SoC as we can't measure CPU performance separately in such cases.

OS is optimized, but for what? The SoC/CPU.
Android+Snapdragon are like a Hindi trying to speak urdu to a Pakistani. Fast but not fast enough as both Android and Snapdragon are General Purpose OS/SoC. On the other hand, iOS is optimized to speak the language of its underlying SoC hence they can control their own instruction set, fetch/decode cycle and can occupy lesser number of bits to store same or similar instructions in same 2GB of RAM.

I would go with Samsung, not only is their hardware much more impressive but Android in general is much better if you like to tinker even a bit with your phone.

I haven't used the current phones but have used both of their older versions. It's iPhone if you want stability, durability, and overall quality.

And Note phones are really for people who do some of their professional work on the phones. So if you just want personal use, many features are plain irrelevant for you.
