Its a mixed bag for me. PSL has in the past not picked Gayle after under performing in the first PSL Season. But what really gets to me is Nadeem Omar's infatuation with continuing with Sarfaraz under the pretext of "Sarfaraz ki humari Franchise ke saath baree Khidmat hain" and still continuing with Moin Khan even though QG have failed to qualify for the playoffs for 3 seasons in a row.

Sunrisers Hyderabad not only axed Warner as captain in the middle of the 2021 Season but they also dropped him from the team and told him that he is no longer welcome to travel with the team and sit in the dug out in the middle of the 2021 season. They did this to David Warner, a guy who won them the 2016 IPL. PSL in comparison will do anything to get David Warner to play in the league.

Would any IPL Franchise pick the likes of Azam Khan and Sharjeel Khan based on their disgraceful fitness levels?

Suresh Raina had 10-11 great seasons with CSK but had one bad season in 2021. End result, he went unpicked in 2022.

Would any IPL Franchise have stuck with Aqib Javed inspite of repeated failures to qualify for the playoffs.

A lot of the foreign players playing in the PSL have either gone unsold in the IPL or have been sold for very nominal wages.

So far for me, IPL Franchises are more hungry and ruthless with their selections, picks, decisions vs the PSL Franchises who by now it is apparent are running their affairs as Pakistani Government departments.

Yeah, I would say IPL franchises are more ruthless after just reading about that David Warner situation lol. Did David Warner have some fight or controversy with the owners?

But one thing that should be acknowledged is that IPL has the luxury to be ruthless due to high quality and a high number of players, especially overseas players.

However, one thing defo can't be justified is Qalandars sticking with Aqib Javed, And Quetta sticking with Sarafraz as captain, not just a player. Because Sarafaz is finished as a PSL player.

Another example of IPL ruthlessness is Eoin Morgan. From captain to discard. For non performance.

PSL is more ruthless. IPL goes more by brand value and ability of the marketing of players.
Hence the clamour for names in KL Rahul, Dhoni, Virat, Pandya etc. Basically who can sell more ads on TV.

In PSL, there is not much to market anyways so they select based on recent form i think.

Ipl clearly. In psl it's the players who are more ruthless to franchise. Deciding to leave midway for personal reasons or disputes. Franchises don't have much choice. And even when they have choice they keep bringing back even domestic oldies. Look at the example of Karman akmal. How he manipulated them in draft time. And then during season Haris got late entry performing great and next game Kamran is back at keeping.
Ruthless would have been handing captaincy for kings to imad midway. Firing some of their coaching staff.
Only rare example comes to mind was dropping g of Hasan ali but even that may have been due to injury.

Without doubt IPL is more ruthless due to large number of foreign players availability.

PSL franchises would be happy to have big players like Smith/Root for marketing purposes though they aren't considered T20 specialist.

One can understand PSL not being ruthless in foreign player selection but what's stopping them to be ruthless with local players/coaches.

Seems like a friendly business opportunity for all involved as rightly mentioned by one poster above.

IPL for sure. The teams are owned by giant global corporate houses & they wouldnt think twice about cutting off even some famous players.

But i can understand why PSL is less ruthless- they have a far smaller pool of global players available, plus they have to fill up so many local slots as well - and its not like Pakistan is churning out quality new cricketers by hundreds either. The quality of talent will no doubt be impacted.

IPL must have become more ruthless now but at the start of the IPL i clearly remember how Ganguly was continued it was quite embarrassing

Benchmarking anything against IPL is fine as it is the most popular league going around currently.

On topic: The PSL is not ruthless because there are 2 franchises that are handled with local bhai bhai culture. Lahore and Quetta.

In light of PSL 8, I feel PSL is NOT ruthless - too many yaarree dostee picks for their teams.

But then IPL has a much larger pool of players to select from the cricketing world.

Why is there a need to compare PSL with IPL all the time?

Good thread.

In PSL, to be very honest Karachi is very ruthless. And their ruthlessness is that they end up dropping good players and retain the wrong guys. They have dropped every good player they had.

Multan is also ruthless that they to dropped guys like Muzrabani or their initial players and even had shan masood removed as captain for Rizwan.

I think in PSL, only Multan is on the right track. Rest is yari dostis.

PSLs ruthlessness is more to do with the luxury of having an abundance of quality pacers which IPL does not boast of. Otherwise it’s very much on par. Overall it remains the one major quality difference between the two leaguers

Islamabad United - another yaari dosti franchise.

Friendship over performance.

What about Multan Sultans?

How are Khushdil and Shan playing nearly every game for the past 3 years??

To think Karachi could've had both Babar and Rizwan! Multan also has dropped Shan in the recent matches

Pakistan should definitely be more ruthless. You have bowling allrounders who can clock 150 kph whereas Indis are struggling to find regular bowlers who can do that .

When you produce elite talents as easily as Pakistan does, the competition should be cut throat.

khushdil did not play that many matches this season. In the past season he was a crucial all rounder as he got wickets upfront.

Bro he was amongst the highest wicket takers, you for some reason tend to forget performances

which is why i called them the dumbest franchise on planet.

all this happened under imad and waseem

Huh. Khushdil has played 10 matches so far at PSL 8 for Multan.

I remember speaking to a player a couple of years ago regarding the PSL.

He said that more often than not, you get picked not just due to performances. It's about having contacts and friends at the franchise, then your agent or representative speaking to the franchise, massaging their ego and then hoping that they will pick you.

If it was just about performances and ability, then some players would not be picked and others would play in their place.

This culture of Dosti & Yaari needs to be stopped at the domestic and PSL level if we are to have progress.
