it’s time address to address the elephant in the room.

PSL and IPL have a symbiotic relationship.

Without PSL, IPL quality drops significantly.

PSL unearths talent unheard of that are not big enough yet for people to notice and bid on in IPL.

However, once PSL bids on an unknown entity or they play a season and excel, then they are primed to be sent off graduation style to their 9-5 mundane routine if PSL is the college stage with late night studying, parties (no drinking ofc) and humble beginnings.

And there’s no shame in that. It’s not about which league is superior. They both need each other. A sandwich isn’t a sandwich without bread or without the roast beef in the middle. They both compliment each other.

Hope this reminder finds you well. For personal reasons and partially due to having some roots in Hyderabad I will quietly and silently follow the Sunrisers on scorecards or the odd highlight of their owner or the six or four compilation of the most recent game, and maybe crack a smile if they win this season for the good ol’ days.

Feel free to support your ancestral team in PSL as well.

Take care.

Unearthing talent - To keep it separate, we have to look at domestic and international level seperately

There are only 4 slots for international players in a team which means, there will be low demand high supply for International superstars.

Foreign coaches have done good enough in both IPL and PSL set ups in this case.

The main difference is the domestic / local set up - India has done really well in this case compared to Pakistan.

Both PSL and IPL now competes in the same poop for international talent. So, any replacements for Tier-1 players who are injured in IPL, they go look for Tier-2 players who will get mostly picked at a decent price in PSL.

I mean if Cummins, Hazelwood etc are not injured, they will not go for shopping on the likes of Spencer johnson and all right?? Because there are only few slots available.

Sad truth is, PSL is acting as a feeder league to give international players for IPL in case of injuries. And Tier-2 players also benefit from this.

If IPL and PSL had a different window, I am sure PSL would find better captains than Marnus Labushchagne

My grandfather was as part of the Brit iindian army was part of team that dug canals in the mardan, nowshera , sawat areas of the n w frontier now called khyber pk. He became fluent in pashto & i believe also farsi. I remember once he met someone from those areas & spoke in fluent pashto & was happy to know about his acquaintances & friends in those villages.
I recently learnt the meaning of zalmi & now will support the peshawar Zalmi 💪✌️
I like the local connect for team last names for eg Lahore qalandars & wish in India we had name like Chennai Veerans instead of super kings or maybe Puneri Paltan - like the kabbadi team instead of these corny angrez last names...

There are other leagues as well where the IPL teams can get a closer look at the player before deciding to bid for them. One of the leagues might be PSL. But there's the hundred , SA20 , BBL as well.

I will support Punjab team because of my mother who belonged to Indian Punjab side

All big six hitters in PSL are international players. No Pakistan batter was in top 5 for strike rates (with 100+ runs) in PSL a couple of seasons ago if I remember.

Yes and some of those will graduate PSL with honors and get a seven figure job at their new 9-5 aka IPL.

Leaving behind the memories of college life (PSL)- acing classes with ChatGPT (feasting on some halwa bowlers in PSL) to the boring, over commercialized and mundane professional life at IPL. Not that that’s a bad thing ofc. Paisa is paisa yaar

What a beautiful relationship.

Only issue is some of the PSL t20 mercenaries who were living it up in PSL may get carried away with their new meatier deal in IPL, but then are in for a shocker when they struggle in the elevated level of competition in IPL, with batsmen who can hit 4x the sixes and bowlers who take t20 fun leagues 4x seriously rather than just a vacation.

So a batsman cracking jokes in PSL pre match conference, having falooda an hour before the game, may still nab a couple of wickets and score a nice cameo… however this won’t work in IPL where everyone is trying hard and taking t20 league as life and death.

That Zimbabwean bowler Bakharkhani or whatever his name is however should be boycotted from PSL campus. No homecoming party for him post IPL.

Airlines sometimes offers economy class passengers benefits such as upgrade to first class / business class for few thousand rupees during off periods. It means that offer is for available for few lucky suitable ones who are at the right place right time.No one bothered about marnus in this instance.

Well that’s why the college metaphor holds up. Not every student is a 4.0, A+ or A1 student. Some of them need to take extra classes before they transform and go even further in their careers than their classmates who graduated before them.

PSL is Marnus taking extra classes before he finds his rhythm in a low pressure situation and then is unleashed into IPL.

PSL, like any major university, should be proud of the talent it developed, sent off to IPL where said talent is now crushing it.

It wont holds up as they are always REPLACEMENTs not the preferred ones.Preferred ones are PREMIUM quality and they dont play in psl.

Generations to come will never know about the outsized influence the PSL has had on the IPL. Carve it into the walls of the stadium like hieroglyphics so that this knowledge will never be lost and the youth will pay homage. Pakistan zindabad.

Basically

PSL (Boyz) - > IPL (Men) -> PSL (Buddhans)

IPL has a whole lot of other leagues to choose their talent from, it's not as if PSL has exclusive rights to these young budding players before the IPL snaps them up.

The retired players also play in a lot of other leagues, even the MLC and ILT20 attract big names, maybe even bigger as they sometimes include current cricketers as compared to PSL.

There's nothing special about the PSL anymore, it's just another T20 league.

PSL held the reputation for being the best league for bolwing quality since its inception. Something amditted by many international players.

All those international players who have taken money from PSL franchises ?

Bowling quality nowadays in LOI cricket is becoming irrelevant, unless you are a freak like Bumrah.

Until you have batting quality, the league will never be entertaining.

PSL = AEW/TNA >> Better young talent, have old legends
IPL = WWE >> Feels stale

Bumrah has a questionable bowling action, so lets only stick to real cricket.

There should be a balance between bat and ball.

I enjoy when both bowlers and batters dominate.

I think 150-160 pitches are good for T20.

The rules are such, it is a batsman dominated format now.

It's no co-incidence that the highest scores records are being smashed. You just saw India smash 250+ in a semi-final and final of a world tournament, which in itself is a joke but that's where we are at the moment and the gap will only increase.

They can change it by having more balanced pitches.

I don't really see the point of having super-flat pitches. Why play bowlers on these pitches? They should just use bowling machines. :yk

You can continue to have balanced pitches but your players will never develop according to the standards required for playing modern day limited overs cricket.

When the top five teams have embraced this template, you have to move with the times or be left behind like the bottom ranked teams have.

I am not denying what you are saying. I am just saying it is not right to use bowlers as donkeys. They should just use bowling machines if they just want to see boundaries. :inti

Anyway, this trend started after BCCICC happened. Indian greed for money is responsible for this "batting-dominated" status quo.

In the 1990's, there used to be more balanced pitches and much more entertaining matches.

IPL is far ahead of PSL in unearthing talent. We should be honest about this.

They have a head start.

Also, they do all sorts of unethical practices. For example, India don't allow their players to play in other leagues but accept foreign players in their leagues.

Not sure how other countries are okay with this. Other countries should stop giving NOCs for IPL, unless India show fairness. :inti

Still they have scouts and player development programmes etc.

Apart from LQ i think PSL teams don't really develop players.
India age group competition is where true long term talents are unearthed. Under the right team.management they flourish. RR is typically known for picking an youngster and backing them.for long period.
