Hyderabad Franchise did a Photoshop gradient job and revealed their name and logo.

Okay fine whatever Logo they went with. But how can they name it Houston? How can PSL and PCB allow this?

Is this Pakistan Super League or America Super League?

PSL / PCB must act quickly and force the owners to change their name and possibly also the logo.

This is why i always say, psl is a stupid league.

You will continue to see more of such stupidity.

Like IU decided to retain Irshad, Gous and Shadab, and released pakistans top t20 batter, Sahibzada Farhan.

Honestly I thought it was an indian Hyderabad owned new franchise team for MLC !
 
It was sold for a huge amount so owners must have the right to name it after whatever they like bro as long as it’s not politically controversial or vulgar

Yeah totally get it but its a bit unusual to see something like this in the SC leagues. If this was MLC, I could understand but yeah just feels I dont know maybe different? But should get atleast some viewership from the PSL following American or Texan cricket fans..

My biggest objection is that it's not a catchy name. The translation to urdu is also tacky af "Badhsha k banday" or "Wazir e shahi" if we make it a bit more term accurate.

Well, Kingsmen also uses the same name as that Taron Egarton movie (which I really enjoyed tbf)

Yup that movie is goated but do you want to hear Wasim Akram and Waqar Younus say Kingsmen, Kingsmen 200 times during a 3 hour commentary shift?
 
Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen…right. Because nothing screams Pakistan Super League like a Pakistani city, an American city, and a medieval fantasy title all mashed together.

By that logic, next season we’ll have Bradford Brooklyn Badshahs and Ilford Islamabad Invincibles.

PSL teams were supposed to represent Pakistani cities and local identity, not sound like a startup that couldn’t decide which market it was targeting. Overseas investors are fine, but at least pretend the team belongs in Pakistan.

PCB really said “local flavour is overrated” and pressed approve.
 
Franchise cricket is generally soulless. You aren't supporting a city you are supporting a company.

Lots of flack recently would one of the hundred teams who had an elephant in their logo. Some of the IPl teams are just named after companies too.

It is what it is. It's ugly. But that's what cricket has become.
 
Nothing wrong with the name. The owner wants to be different by adding his American whereabouts.

Maybe they should rename it to Hyderabad Kingsmen.
 
This is beyond bad. I thought the Sialkot people who forgot how to spell was bad, but these guys are making them look professional. This is one of the worst naming and identity in sports. the PSL should be more stricter with team identities and regulations around them. Absolute nonsense.
 
What even is a "Houston Kingsmen"? American doesn't even have a history of monarchy, so no ties there. Why install that cities name in? Aren't the owners from Chicago?
 
My take on this. Houston has a significant Muslim population of Pak origin.. Not sure if they are targetting them.. but even that doesn't make sense. It will be minuscule compared to any Pak state's population. And this may be speculation - There is a super rich Pak oilman in Houston and not sure if he or his firm has invested in this franchise and so made them put the Houston name. Again pure speculation though.

They have a new York bulls team and a team called Maratha Arabians with no Marathi people or Arabians in the squad, but they do have :ifticool
 
What an absolute joke and right off the bat, it shows what a bunch of clowns the owners are. I would be steaming if I am the PCB and not allow this to go through.

I don't care whether or not Houston population compromises of a lot of Pakistanis, get that joke of a city name off the PSL team name.

How would they fit Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen on a Jersey?
 
Houston has a huge Pakistani population and some of the best Pakistani restaurants outside Pakistan.
 
I personally think this is a non issue… as long as the owners invest in the team and PSL in general…

Hopefully no rules were violated… sounds like they should be okay given it’s a US Based venture and will operate professionally

Maybe they should have put Farhan's face as the logo and that would have made you happy? What a terrible post. This will actually push the PSL into America.
 
Hyderabad and Houston together makes it sound like an Indian franchise too- IYKYK 🤣

I am sure there is some Sunday league team with that name in TX @deltexas
