Ireland to play a historic first ever tour of England this Friday in Bristol followed by a cracker at Lord's on Sunday. Praying weather stays good!

Worth noting there have been some very strong ticket sales reported. According to a journalist here already 18,000 tickets for the Lord's game have been sold and a significant amount of Irish fans are expected to attend both matches. Shows that Ireland actually can be a decent crowd puller when marketed properly. Not aware of exact numbers for Friday's game in Bristol.

On the field things may get exceedingly ugly with our weakened and nevertheless crappy bowling attack but screw it, finally we're getting a tour of England and hopefully it'll be a series played in good spirits.

Can't wait!!

how many of England team players are unavailable due to IPL?

Stokes, Woakes, Roy, Morgan, Buttler, Jordan, Billings?

Morgan, Roy and Billings (will keep wicket) are back, Jordan doesn't get in the ODI squad.

Side question, do the Irish troll Eoin Morgan for giving up on Ireland and playing for England?

If a Pakistani cricketer had gone to play for India he would not have been able to step on a cricket field or would have received a barrage of boos and water bottles.

Most of them are playing actually. Morgan, Roy, Billings will all be there, mostly a full strength team.

This actually is fairly historic for us. Irish cricket fans throughout the decades have long since followed England games in Lord's. Now we'll be seeing Ireland play England in Lord's, regardless of result its a big day and one thats well overdue.

If ticket sales are strong I see no reason it can't become a regular fixture.

Non cricket fans brand him a traitor and the like. Most cricket fans who are aware of his reasons and the state of the Irish team and admin when he grew up are annoyed but understand it and respect it. Got nothing but applause when he scored a match winning 100 against us in Malahide in 2013. Still Irish after all I suppose.

I never understood why george dockrell hasnt played for england as of yet.

Before rashid, dockrell was the next best spinner in associate level. What ever happened to the guy

Regressed badly and got figured out. Somerset ruined him. Has zero variations

Hope the pitches are green otherwise it could be very one sided in favour of the English batsmen.

Its a shame Ireland couldn't have toured earlier when they had a stronger team but encouraging to read that ticket sales are strong.

This should have happened years ago. ICC do nothing for the development of associate nations. Ireland beat England in WC2011, this tour should have happened around then at the latest!

Good luck ireland

Hope for a cracker. Ire always push eng to their limit. Hope they can surprise World again. Best of luck Ireland

Well done Irish!

May the "luck of the Irish" be with you :)

Boring Ireland will get thumped by a strong team as usual, an England v/s Afghanistan Odi series would have been more interesting.

Wouldn't have sold as many tickets. Large Irish community here in England.

Can my BD and Indian friends tell me whether or not it's being telecasted here?

Star Sports 1 showing the match here in India

It was a good start by Ireland when they reached 40/0 off 5 overs, but 2 quick wickets and Porterfield's super slow batting ruined it

Ireland 103/5 off 26 overs now. Should just look to bat full 50 overs and hope to reach about 240-250 to make a match out of this

Ireland floundering against spin again. Memories of the Afghanistan defeats flooding back. Disappointing for Ireland after the good start they had.

May be Bangladesh will play sanzamul Islam against them in the upcoming series seeing the blinder by Rashid and ireland's weakness in spin.

Irish crashes to humiliation. More irish youngsters need to take up spin bowling regardless of the condition. When youhave quality spinners, your domestic competition will produce players who are equally good at playing spin as they play fast.

Haven't been watching but I'm looking at the scorecard and wondering what the hell Porterfield (13 from 45) and O'Brien (16 from 41) thought they were doing?

Niall O'Brien couldn't have done much as Ireland were already like 100/6 or 7 when he was batting. But Porterfield innings can't be justified. Ireland were 46/2 off 7 overs and all what he had to do was take singles and build a platform for likes of Kevin O'Brien and Wilson to accelerate in the end, but the 45 ball 13 put pressure on everyone

icc wasting money on ireland

Ireland is suffering from poor selections and poor management. What Ireland needs is Trent Johnston as coach and a new captain. Porterfield needs to go away and Kevin O'Brien needs to be made the captain

Ireland tour of England, 2nd ODI: England v Ireland at Lord's, May 7, 2017

ENG 4/0 (0.5 ov)

Ireland won the toss and elected to field

I was looking for this thread was wondering where it disappeared, much like Irish cricket :broad Donal Cozzie

Then ended up bumping the Ireland/Afghan Test status thread to ask Donal me question which he ignored :))

Anyhow, lets see if the Irish lads can last close to 100 overs today, will consider it a victory:smith

Like the XI England have today, but I'd swap Billings and Willey for Buttler and Stokes for the CT.

Think it's pretty much guaranteed that it'll be :

Hales
Roy
Root
Morgan
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Woakes
Rashid

With 2 spots between Wood, Plunkett and Willey.

Bit weird watching the England captain spank his own brothers :))

The conditions allowed the ball to do a bit and England were steady in the first 10 (RR was about 5) and have really pushed on since the loss of Roy and Hales; expect a strong finish, should get to about 300 at the very least; anything below that would be a job well done from the Ireland bowlers but can't see them chasing anything over 240 given their recent form.

He'll get back in once Stokes/Woakes return, his position in the team is kind of reliant on them being there though.

Stokes and Woakes are kind of reliant on Ali being in the team as well though:harby

Not sure how that one works :D.

If Moeen was injured Stokes and Woakes would still be comfortably in the champions trophy XI (infact it would strengthen Woakes's place even more than it already is). If Woakes and Stokes suddenly got injured Moeen would have a struggle getting a place in the champions trophy xi.

As per your logic Stokes and Woakes only play when Moeen Ali plays :yk2 The Beard is undroppable, I'd bet your life on it :narine

Come on Ireland make a damn fist of it! couple of more wickets please!

Rashid having some fun out there, we knew he'd be a handful for the Irish so rested Mo ; the beard will be unleashed in the CT!

England already have enough for their bowlers to defend

Bairstow's seeing it like a football. Wonderful player.

Batting averages
Moeen : 25.87
Rashid : 26.79

Bowling averages
Moeen : 48.56
Rashid : 32.86

:D

And to think Bairstow wasn't even England's first backup batsman at full strength before this game.

They've used Mo as a utility A/R with so many make shift roles so those numbers are not surprising, but they can afford that luxury

Tresco in the sky studio's, great to see him; one of my favourite England batsman ever

I don't know why people have a problem with ENG bowling attack, it's underestimated if you ask me.

Stokes
Woakes
Mark Wood
Plunkett / Ball / Willey / Jordan

are a formidable pace battery, the little missing clink would be a specialist ODI bowler of Ryan Sidebottoms aura who is exceptional when it comes to variations but otherwise it's a great pace attack.

Then there's a leggie Rashid and offie Mo for support if required.

All round England's attack is more then capable of defending 270-275 at the very least against any batting line up in the world

England's bowling attack is formidable and extremely underrated. Wood was bowling in the 140's the other day with some serious accuracy, Woakes generally bowls a terrific line and length and Plunkett, upon his return has gotten very good with variations. Whereas, Stokes can move the ball and variate his pace. Their spinners are not the best. But on those English pitches pace and swing will be more important than spin.

Ball, Wiley and Plunkett will probably be battling for one place.

I forgot to add Steven Finn! he's a handful as well and even at his worst can cause trouble with bounce

Yeah, the spinners are more then a handful in England and get their job done; Rashid is an attacking option, I prefer him to someone like Tredwell who was used in the past to hold an end; Mo can do that and bat as well

Finn is good but he's not in the CT squad

Finn is good but he's not in the CT squad

He can be added if there's an injury etc but a big blunder not having him in the 15 man squad, they included him in the squad to face Ireland but with the CT looming Morgan has opted not to play him because he's not in the CT squad
