Ireland tour of England (2017)

Decent start from Ireland, spin will be a challenge though

He can be added if there's an injury etc but a big blunder not having him in the 15 man squad, they included him in the squad to face Ireland but with the CT looming Morgan has opted not to play him because he's not in the CT squad

Ball is a better option than Finn nowadays.

I forgot to add Steven Finn! he's a handful as well and even at his worst can cause trouble with bounce

Yeah, the spinners are more then a handful in England and get their job done; Rashid is an attacking option, I prefer him to someone like Tredwell who was used in the past to hold an end; Mo can do that and bat as well

Finn is good but he's not in the CT squad

Finn's gone off the boil. A case of unfulfilled promise as the guy is 6ft 7 and can hit speeds of above 85mph on his day where he can be a real handful, but he's had problems finding consistency.

He must have Pakistani blood in him...

Markhor has covered it well why he wasn't selected.

Both of you have failed to point out the man who was responsible for destroying Finn's action, root for the lack of consistency was planted then but ever since he has fought well to overcome his deficiencies and remains a threatening bowler; only if we had the luxury to drop a bowler like him.

Ireland seriously needs an injection of youth, these same names Porterfield, Joyce, O'Brien brothers were there when they beat us all the way back in 2007, iirc.

I hope they do well here, have made the right start. Even the Irish can play at a brisk rate in the initial overs, it's only us who have this garbage mentality of seeing off the new ball.

ENG went at a rate of 4.5 during their first ten and conditions were overcast then, then they kicked on. Conditions were far better when IRL came out to bat, the heavens had opened. But no doubt positivity is important but conditions have to be respected as well

Wonder if the amount Root is bowling is a sign of England considering going in with only 1 of their 2 'frontline spinners' in the champions trophy.

Rashid has advanced while Moeen went backwards over the last winter.

That's a lie, don't appreciate your post. Moeen is the most valuable England cricketer since W.J Grace

If Ireland can bat about 40 overs I'll consider that a big success

Better than Bristol, but Ireland showing a real weakness against spin once again. Losing 3 wickets to Joe Root is unacceptable.

Most hirsute, maybe.

Ten wickets in five India tests at 65 each, compared to Rashid's 23 at 37.

Ireland should have done better, considering the fact that England are not at their full-strength. Nonetheless, it will be a travesty if Bairstow goes back to the bench. England have to find a way to slot him in.

But he averaged almost 50 with the bat, 2 hundreds and a 50; also took a bucket load of wickets against India in England 2014 Test series. Rashid averaged 14 with the bat and almost 40 with the ball.

You thought supporting Pakistan was tough...

Well at least they performed respectably in lord's, first game an absolute disaster though, Selectors for gods sake need to be brave and drop the likes of Niall and other seniors when they arent performing., talent is there, but its been frozen out for so long

That's what I mean, he has gone backwards as a bowler. I don't know where to put him in the order. Is he a #5 or a #8? #5 looks too high for him. I would prefer a middle order of Root (4), Bairstow (5) and Stokes (6) as Bairstow is too low at #7, it's plugging a weakness by sacrificing a strength like they did with Stewart.

No.4 is ideal, a long run in that position will yield monumental results. He has been learning to bowl at the Test level so deserves some patience, that was his debut tour in India and Swann even after all that experience was outbowled by the legendary Monty over there
