Is Ahmed Shehzad gone for good?

Guys he has a T20 century although the last time I watched him in T20 , he scored a pathetic 16 off 32 balls !
Should have been dropped .

This pic from his instagram made me chuckle but then it occurred to me that he genuinely believes he can make his way back into the team?

Do we share his optimism?

Seems - strangely enough, he is considered "part" of the CT winning squad and so retains his position - but then he could be there due to his World XI form...

He's gone back to domestics and scored runs so he deserves a chance. He needs to show intent at the crease and not suck up dot balls. Not agains his selection like most on this forum but he has to get runs versus this poor Sri Lankan attack.

Guy is absolutely useless. Time and again exact same problems, couldnt pick singles in a lottery ticket if he tried.

All he had to do was 'rotate' the strike but I guess 'rotating strike' does not feature in Shazs vocabulary.

By far shehzads best ODI knock, also probably greatest ever ODI inns as well. The 12 balls he faced were a joy to behold

Shehzad is the best gift Inzamam gave to Pakistan after Imam ul Haq.

Again there is no replacement apart from planted Imam ul Haq, now should this be blamed on Sarfaraz and Arthur?

What are their options?
Thats why we need RSA tour so that Inzi bhai would never select his nephew or his favorites Akmals/Shehzad to face much more solid Proteas.

Imam would definitely be better than the dot machine Shehzad.

Hell even Hassan Ali opening the innings would be better than dot machine.

Shahzad getting dropped for Fakhar was the reason we won the CT 17.

Inzi dropped the wrong opener. :azhar

Oh god just drop this guy already. 12 ball duck, just play a makeshift opener. I'd promote Babar to open. There's just no need for this again and again. a 12 ball duck on this pitch is absolutely terrible.

Drop him and replace him with Haris. Haris will do well as an opener.

While Azhar is out. Babar and Fakhar to open and Haris on 1 down drop Shezzy

I'd do that, but I'd like that done permanently. Don't see any future for Azhar in the ODI format, and I wouldn't drop anyone for him (and I would mess with that top 3 which looks far better without Azhar in it).

I am willing to give ahmed the whole series only if he wont be allowed back for two years if he fails to impress.

To think Haris is warming the bench for this fool.

Hes got no businsss being in the odi team not only does he not score he cant even rotate the strike or bat at a decent clip

Hes the definition of overhyped and v poor player

Harris should be playing instead of him

This picture will always define why he feels he should be part of the ODI team!

A 12 ball duck today sums up his ODI career. He always has, and always will be a selfish player who only bats for himself.

The solution is simple, Babar or Hafeez can open. Or even Sarfaraz should be brave and open. He is wasted down the order because he cannot slog and we saw evidence of that again today. Bring in Haris Sohail or Fahim Ashraf. I prefer Fahim because we seriously lack a power hitter down the order.

His innings today was worth 292 tbh, we would have got bowled out in those 12 balls if he didn't keep 'em out. :shezzy

Was seeing off the new ball.

We won't fully know his worth until he is out of the team. :ahmed

Posters who are calling for Azhar not to be picked, shouldn't his recent champions trophy form automatically merit him at least a decent run in the side?

His stats are not far off exactly what we need at the top of the order. And seems to be working on improving his strike-rate. Worth investing in, unlike Shehzad and his world cup blunders...

This is an interesting idea. I would be happy if they brought Haris in to open. Happy to leave Babar where he is already performing. Plus we could maybe get a look at how he plays the swinging ball if the Lankans can produce some movement early on. Good indication for England tour coming up.

Not a fan of Shehzad in ODI's. T20's, tests maybe, but he consistently does this dotting thing in ODI's especially, which cannot go on.

His Champions Trophy performances are overrated. He was slow, and he scored when others found it easy to score too i.e. Final and Semi final. I'm actually a fan of Azhar and have wanted him in the ODI side in the past, but we needed to see change from him, that he's able to score at a decent strike rate and I didn't see that in CT, he looked the same limited player. His strike rate isn't improving, it's gone down to 70 for 2017. And his averages over the last two years aren't good. The big issue I have especially that once he plays himself in, he can't accelerate, has no second gear. If we are aiming to set high totals and chase big totals, Azhar is more of a hindrance.

If we are to move on, we can't move on as a progressive side. Babar does Azhar's job better, he scores more consistently at a better strike rate.

Make Babar open, include Haris and if Hafeez can't do the lower order job and score at a high strike rate and decent average (which I'm not convinced he can, though he really should be batting at 6 not 4, Sarfraz is wasted a bit at 6), get someone new in like Talat for example to do the job.

Shehzad has scored century vs RSA in RSA in bouncy conditions which automatically merits his inclusion in ODI cricket.

Given Pakistan is now looking towards drafting in young players with the Management, selection committee and even the captain inducting fresh blood without hesitation. Do you guys think that this has marked the end of Ahmed Shehzad's international career?

Discuss:shezzy

Yes gone for good. Don't need selfish players anywhere near our side.

Imam's emergence is the final nail in the coffin.

I believe Shehzad's return very much relies on the simple fact on what kind of resources we have in the pipeline. Among the openers (Fakhar/Imam/Azhar) one of them have to lose form horribly and then the ones behind them should be complete dud. That's the only way I can see Shehzad making a comeback.

hopefully yes! but this is Pakistan cricket. Most mediocre player I have ever seen. One of the worst to play the game.

Dont think so. Very much in contention for LOI sqaud. We still have opener related issues.

With Pakistan cricket no one is ever gone for good, every possibility that Shehzad will play again
Wouldn’t rule out an Afridi comeback either

We have atleast 10 years of will he or will he not left with selfie , god knows how many comebacks he’ll make & add another manhoos to this list chota A & another big disappointment S Maqsood

In Pakistan cricket nothing is for certain. Just be happy that he is no longer in the picture, but it would take just a couple of failures from Fakhar and Shehzad could be back in the reckoning again. Also keep in mind our second opener's slot in ODIs is still undecided and this gives me sleepless nights because Inzi is just itching to put Shehzad's name on it

Apparently, not even Abdul Razzaq is gone for good. So I don't think we have seen the last of Ahmed Shehzad.

Zero performance, nothing to show for the last decade and now testing positive in a dope test.

This should be the end of the line.

I don't want him anywhere near the side given his form and style of play. He still has age on his side and cricket is a very funny game where you see former mediocre players such as Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith who worked hard on their skills and transformed into world class players so you never know what's around the corner in cricket; there's always something interesting happening every year in international cricket so we'll have to wait and see what the future holds for Shehzad. He needs to go back to his attacking style of play that he had when he was a young teen so he can form a good partnership with Fakhar.

Yes, both him and Akmals are gone for good now. They should concentrate on T20 leagues now.

Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad has been left out of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) team roster for the 2018-19 season of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy.

Shehzad — who was the captain of HBL in the previous season — is currently suspended by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on doping charges. His sample tested positive for a banned substance during the Pakistan Cup 2018 held in Faisalabad.

Shehzad has filed his response to the PCB on the charge sheet that was handed out to him but a date for the hearing is yet to be decided.

When an HBL official was approached on the matter, he said that Shehzad is still a part of the side but he won’t be included in the 25-man squad until he is cleared by the PCB.

“We will include Shehzad in the squad if he is given clean chit by the board. We will pay the legal fees to ensure his place in the side,” an HBL official said.

Meanwhile according to sources, it is also expected that Shehzad’s name will be omitted from the list of centrally contracted players, which will be announced in a few days’ time.
