Is Coke Studio the worst thing to have happened to Pakistani pop and rock music?

2003 - 2010 was the best time for Pak music. Booming music industry. So many bands, solo singers, underground bands in rock/metal and pop music.

From Noori to EP to Call to Mizraab to Ali Azmat etc in rock music.
Jal, Strings, Raeth, Roxen, Aakash, Aaroh etc in pop music.
Atif, Ahmed, Omer Inayat, Omer Nadeem, Sheraz Uppal etc in solo singers
Lagan, Zau, Alag, Aatish, Aaraiz, Tahir & Somair etc in underground bands

So many hit albums and also every song of the album was v.good.

But then Coke Studio happened where even rock musicians/singers like Noori, Ali Azmat opted for same kind of slow songs. I am sure Pak music die hard fans who listened songs in that time would have noticed this.

What's the coke studio a music producer?

I miss Pakistani bands like Junoon and strings...they were awesome

No. Coke Studio wouldn't have made a difference. The reason why as many bands, good bands stopped emerging is pretty clear and oblivious to none. Bands only stay big when they play as much as they can and when they sell big. With the security situation in Pakistan over this period of time, bands as big as Junoon and EP got zero opportunities to have gigs, concerts and shows and therefore, they stopped playing.

And now with YouTube, the internet and piracy, nobody buys albums anymore. Bands throughout the world have gone into decline with most artists making money off of record labels, YouTube, former glory and playback singing.

To blame CS for the death of bands is ignorant. I personally am a HUGE, HUGE rock music fan (assuming you are too) and I couldn't be more saddened about what's happened to the industry but the truth is, there's nothing we can do about it anymore. People don't particularly love Sufi Rock or just loud music in general anymore and are obsessed with Bollywood love songs.

If anything, CS has featured many declining artists (Ali Azmat/Noori/Bilal) and given them a platform.

These 2 songs are better than what Coke Studio has put. Pop, Rock and Metal music haven't died in Pakistan but Coke Studio is making us believe otherwise.

EP - Hamesha

Call - Jilawatan

All these years and this song is what I have been going back to love the sitar in this song and no its not the worst thing for sure.

Security situation from 2007 to 2014 was what led to demise of many bands and rise of CS. Now that security has improved, band culture is coming back. Plus rock band audience is a minority in Pakistan, most people love to listen to slow sureeley songs.

i always wonder why the industry declined when it was booming from 2000 to 2008, i relised it had to do with the economy and mush years:11:, when the economy went down the music industry went with it.
