Every University has good points and bad points.
For example, would you (or a prospective employer) prefer a 1st from a Uni like Coventry versus a 2/2 or just a pass from a Russel Group University? Of course, if the final grade was the same, in the same subject studied, then the Russel Group university will count more in the eyes of many potential employers.

And of course there is always a university name bias along the way. For example, a bare pass from Oxford/Cambridge probably counts more than even a 1st from many of the top Russel Group universities for some employers, and social circles. It's the "I went to Oxford/Cambridge" factor, as opposed to the topic studied and the final grade obtained.

What course are you doing if you don't mind me asking?

Additionally, Coventry has a much better reputation now then it did when I was considering it as an option, they have very good links with employers and have invested a lot more in various departments.

I went to one of the best uni's in the country and it took a while and so much blood, sweat and tears but that was my goal. In the grand scheme from experience it doesn't matter and Cov may actually suit your strengths, my advice is aim for a first and try to do a placement year, however in the end if you didn't and manage to get a foot in the door it's always about experience in the end and having a degree qualification, graduate schemes in this sense can be decieving because they are competetive and make you think that there are not options elsewhere or you need to go to x or y uni or have a certain class to be able to do really well.

Your attitude is everything, no matter where you go or what class you have if you don't settle for less or give up your career goals I can gurantee you that there is no doubt you will do well.

I am at Coventry University. What are you planning to study? I'm happy to help you if you have any questions about the uni.

In all seriousness though focus on getting a strong first/distinction in your degree and your career prospects should still be pretty good. A good result from even average universities will allow you to enroll on to a masters course in a top university and your career prospects will be just as good as anyone who went to a Russell Group uni for their bachelors.

Business in International Year One.

It ranks 800 in the world as per THE. SO that should explain if it is good or bad university.

Nice. Where are you going to stay? Have you got accomodation sorted yet? Are you going to stay in halls of residence or a house, or have you still not sorted it yet?

I haven't booked accommodation yet but most likely it would be halls. How far is uni from the city center and does it have a good nightlife?

Uni is very very close to the city centre which is a big advantage. It's like 5-10 mins walk away so yeah, you're very close to everything. Yes, the nightlife is good, there's a couple of decent clubs, one called Kasbah and one called JJ's so yeah you won't have any problems when it comes to that side of things.

Words to live by at uni.

I have been to Coventry twice but I wasn't much impressed by it. I like Birmingham which is near. I actually wanted to go to a uni in Manchester so I could go to Pakistan vs India match in WC but that wasn't meant to be lol

You maybe thinking of Warwick.

One of the better universities in the Uk is in Coventry and is called Warwick.

Warwick is tops for Engineering and Maths related. I am sure that Coventry had a good Business School but i could be mistaken.

I know about it more than you. My sister just got graduated from there in July.

Ok mr know it all...

The University of Warwick
Coventry, CV4 7AL, UK
Tel: +44 (0)24 7652 3523

What does the second line of the Warwick university address say?

It's max 4 miles from centre of Coventry to Warwick uni.

Did you go in a cab? They must have realised you were a freshy and drove you around for an hour :))) .... you been had, better use google maps next time, you could have walked it there in less time.

eagle-eye is right. Warwick University is in Coventry, but the outskirts. However, most students, after 1st year where they live in Halls of residence, tend to live in Leamington Spa, which is closer to Warwickshire. But the Uni of Warwick, is actually in Coventry.

Damn that means OP bhai could have studied in Pak at a higher ranked uni lol

Degrees are overrated, just make sure you don’t entirely flop the whole thing (get a minimum 2:1) and during your study get relevant work experience in your chosen field.

It's not just about studies. It's about having different experiences and meeting different types of people in the uni which you can't get in Pakistan.

Its not in Coventry. It's in Warwick which is like almost an hour away from Coventry.

No Its in Coventry. I used to work there and its an amazing University.

As for Coventry, it is one of the most improved Universities in the UK and has beaten many Russel Group uni's to get a very good rating over the last few years. I would check what its TEF score was and also have a look at the course you are studying. Try the guardian website. You can search via course there. Unfortunately I didn't like coventry the city. Horrible to look at and some unsavoury chav types hanging out in the town centre.

Im suprised you didnt go for Warwick. It was a great place to work and the campus is amazing..

for example they spent over 30k just on cricket nets a few years back!! They also host the premier league referees conference every year and their sporting facilities are amazing.

Not for BME's. For us they are a gateway to a better life. Without degrees we are at the bottom of the pile. Just to compete with non BME's we need degree's.

True to an extent.

Universities are now a business... the focus is getting in as much money as possible. Degrees are pushed forward to get the numbers in.

Best students will get on well regardless of your university. its the average and below average that are usually at a disadvantage from non Russel group.

Best Universities are about self learning and critical thinking. They nurture the environment for you to do that and these skills stay with you for life. If you left uni without these skills, you kind of wasted lot of money and time. Best students have to demonstrate that at any university, hence I said top students will do well anywhere. My advice to BME students is to aim to be in this category, whichever university you go.
