He struggled in PSL 2, he failed the fitness test and now he's been dropped from the limited over squads altogether for the West Indies tour.

Bit surprised to see him dropped so soon but he really has no one except himself to blame. Needs to get his head in the right place, lose some weight work hard.

All is not lost, he's still just 26-years-old.

Lols, this is Pakistan cricket, he will be back.

I want him to be dropped on performance basis not fitness.

On what grounds he is even considered for LOI cricket?. He failed in all T20 internationals and leagues. He failed in AUS ODI series. Why he was in the camp even?.

Lol by the end of the champions trophy (assuming WI tour is not a disaster) Umar Akmals reputation will be very high and there will be a clamour for a recall

LOL we thought that Hafeez wont be back and If he scoresa 50 in odis he will be back in tests too.

Why was he selected in the first place if performance was the reason for him being dropped? I dont think he was racking up scores in domestic/league cricket?

May be a rash decision on the part of selectors but Akmal hadnt done anything to make a case against this decision. Looks like Fakhar got his spot so hope he gets a decent run in the side before being dropped.

Hafeez may be the next senior on the chopping block.

Road of Pakistani players are very long, it never ends actually untill they are 40+ and for some it even goes beyond that.

Umar Akmal would be back in the side sooner or later. May be once elder Akmal fails and get dropped, he will make way for chota bhai.

Revolving door of our cricket. At least should given an opportunity for one of the youngsters to show some promise. So maybe Akmal does come back but at the expense of someone like Hafeez if he continues to underperform - which he will surely do in CT.

Its been a sad story really , brimming with confidence and talent was the 18 years old umar akmal and was supposedly destined to do great things like 10000 test runs. Today at the age of 26 he is out of team for being fat and (stupid). No worse combination.

He still has around 14-15 years left to play for Pakistan.

What are you talking about?

Lmao. He'll be back.

Not if he keeps this up.

Do you think he's going to remain out of shape? Of course now the first thing on his mind will be conditioning.

When Kami, Hafeez and Malik can keep coming back and playing till they are well into their thirties then this is by no means the end of the road for Umar.

He needs to make friends with media personnel who pressurize soft chief selectors like Inzi and he would be back in the squad in a jiffy.

He's a good striker of the ball and young. The moment he becomes disciplined and concentrates on his fitness and batting alone, he will be back.

He needs to take his career more seriously.

Form issues, fitness issues, off-field problems - this cannot go on.

Hope he comes back looking in prime fitness and supreme form. Also shows improved brain-power and goes on to average 70+ after his comeback in ODIs and Tests. That's the only way he can equal the expectations that were there at the start of his career.

Lol you really think so?

Brother, how can you forget that we made so many similar threads for Kamran, Hafeez, Shehzad, Tanvir etc. yet they all feature in our latest squads. :kakmal :sohail :hafeez2 :shehzad

I know I have no proof but every time I see UA I just have a feeling he's suffering from something. Maybe depression or something, it's just a feeling and i could be wrong but idk why I think this

He will be back. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes the champions trophy squad.

Does the road look like this ?

He'll probably be back after the Champions Trophy if that doesn't go well.

Maybe the best thing ever happened to him.. Players need to be handled and the job of management is to extract the best performance out of a player.. If a player has flaws, may it be technical or mental, they need to be corrected. U just cant discard a player..

Many players around the world (whatever the sport maybe), dont know whats best for them, what needs to be done. Here comes the job of management to keep him on the right track.

Hope so. I'm done with him unless he shows that he is willing to change like Shehzad. Absolutely no excuse for being unfit.

Not at all end of the road. This is not a team of super stars - always a chance to make a comeback. I believe Malik's spot is now up for a challenge and Hafeez would also be on a tight rope.

Akmal wont open for Pakistan unless he can successfully do it in league cricket - fans should forget about that.

He should only be brought back if he shows improvements in fitness and attitude.

Haha need I remind you that Kamran Akmal just made yet another return after failing don't know how many times.

On a side note: Kinda surprised to see that Umar Akmal's fitness is even worse than Kamran's.

PATRONS TROPHY GRADE II 2016-17

ROUND TWO

DAY ONE OF THREE

*** NBP STADIUM, KARACHI

Candy Land (First Innings): 431-9 in 83 overs (Umar Akmal 134, 18x4s, 4x6s, 128 balls, Adil Akram 129*, 18x4s, 1x6, 124 balls, Muhammad Bilal 78, 7x4s, 2x6s, 85 balls, Ashiq Ali 28, 2x4s, 21 balls, Bilal Baig 24, 3x4s, 88 balls, Ali Mustafa 3-117, Mohib Ullah 3-97)

Haideri Traders (First Innings): 18-0 in 5 overs

What type of match is this?

someone like Umar because he has the "talent" label on him and plays great innings once in a blue moon he will always be in contention unless he loses form so bad to Nasir Jamshed levels of decline. Once some of the new boys start struggling and we start getting beateb by the top ODI teams. Umar will again be portrayed as some hero who can change our fortunes and make us a top team again. He will probably be out of the team for 5-6 months then get a recall.

I read a news report that Mahindar Pal Singh also turned out for Candyland in this match and picked up two wickets before getting a groin injury.

Don't know whether to appreciate Umar playing Grade 2 or whether to be sad about it.

Haha need I remind you that Kamran Akmal just made yet another return after failing don't know how many times.

On a side note: Kinda surprised to see that Umar Akmal's fitness is even worse than Kamran's.

The difference is that Kamran scored a ton of runs in domestic cricket over a prolonged period of time and made it impossible to ignore him.

Meanwhile Junior doesn't need to do anything, he can just wait for the team to have a couple of poor games and then everyone will start clamouring for his return because he is "talented".

Really hope we can get the Umar Akmal of 09-10 back soon.

He is no Hafeez, Imran Farhat or Misbah who would continue to enjoy a free ride for ever.

I hope he just concentrates on T20 leagues and never plays for Pakistan again.

Easily the most overrated cricketer in the entire history of Pakistan cricket
